Al, The description of the pond is exactly the sort of thing I am starting to come around to realising that I need ! ( was originally thin king sleeper etc. but having read up I am changing my mind and going down the bottom drain - block build - render - waterproof paint route. I will give you a call when I am back from London and yes, I may be interested in some of your eqpt for sale ( although have a Nexus filter in mind ). cheers Paul PS: Obviously, will be some time before I start filling pond with fish - dont want to rush putting fish in.

Thanks Trevor - I will sound him out. I did get plenty of useful information from pirky ( Dave ) as well. I am not convinced a pond will be less pleasure - I figure I will have something to keep me occupied when it is too windy to take the boat out - which nowdays is most weekends

Graham, Thanks for the reply. I am planning a raised pond partly below ground - bottom drain and a gravity fed filter. Pondering ( excuse pun ) as to whether to get block built or get a liner and build up using railway sleepers ( prob be sleepers if doing myself ) or if to get whole job done by someone else. Filtration already worked out ( thinking along lines of gravity fed Nexus unit ) Size circa 2500 gallons. Depth circa 4 ft I am getting a quote but suspect may be too expensive = so looking at DIY options + getting hole dug and concrete in base.

Seriously considering building a Koi pond ( well getting one built ). Does anyone in the club have experience in building ponds or know of anyone ? ps; Tried JimBob already
  10. Always fish the Open on the Sunday, but if you are relatively new to your boat and the weather is a bit lumpy, you might not want to buddy up with me! There will be plenty of boats on the Open though and buddy boats everywhere Other days, as always depends on if I can get time of work. Open comp is about the only day I actually fish out of Poole on my own boat. Week day trips always difficult for me as spend all my time working
  11. Dave, I use Google Chrome now and it is superb. Loss of connection though - have similar problems at moment, I keep getting failed to resolve dns - I think it is a problem with the ISP ( btinternet at moment ), so could be unfairly blaming IE9 ?
  12. Dan, If you do not trip the anchor and fish Christchurch Ledge, expect to not be seeing it after a few trips
  13. Shane, I usually fish out of Christchurch, so if you are over that way give me a message prior to then and happy to buddy up in Neo ( mind you only been out once this year so far ! )
  14. Been away for a while and missed this rather interesting thread ! Completely disagree that swanning off to Alderney / mid channel or wherever is putting you at a bigger advantage in this competition. In fact the 48 Hr is the ideal one for the smaller boats to be able to win. Did I ever mention ...... zzzz ........ I personally won this competition when half the committee went over to Alderney. Where was I ? - Fishing the one day I could ( Friday PM ) out of Christchurch. 4lb 7oz Bream - game over How long had I been sea fishing at the time - 3 yrs ish ..... Fuel Used
  15. Have a great birthday Sam.
  16. I find it useful to reverse slowly on full lock at the start of the manoeuvre to swing the stern around slightly so the buoy is visible from side of boat then it is easy to manoeuvre around the buoy and rope.

  18. Tony will correct me but I think Serenity used something like 100 litres going, 90 litres on the banks whilst over and 130 litres returning. We did have to keep the engine idling for most the time though as charging issues !
  19. Glad to hear you got back safe and sound. Our own trip back was uneventful although we did manage to run out of fuel some 100 yards or so from our berth at Rockley ( so had to anchor to refuel ) A bit less economical in that wind ! I must say I am now well impressed with the handling of the MF695 it just breezed through those conditions..
  20. Dont know how they / if they correlate but. Tides for Braye are here braye tides
  21. Alderney is in club waters - so could catch one over there I assume ( although I suspect that we will be miles from the bream marks
  22. lol - Adam was posting same time about same boat contents ( i.e. Beer - Food etc. ) !
  23. Got home from work yesterday ( day early ). Called Tony - trip is on Loaded up boat with food and beer and then found some space for the tackle Watched AWOL being lifted on the fork lift ( then the fork lift broke - but got working again as we left ). Stopped at Tesco on way back for some more food and drink so all ready for tomorrow now. Bring it on
  24. and it has changed from when I posted 15 mins ago ! - looks ( slightly ) better at this minute but F6 on Mon. We intend to decide lunchtime tomorrow.
  25. 1.) Adam F - JV (only if Alderney is cancelled!) 2.) Alun J - ditto 3.) Rob F - ditto if skipper has room! 4.) Paul D - Serenity ( if alderney cancelled ) 5.) A Devine - Serenity ditto
