  1. I think that the incident has proven to be a useful exercise as it has taught me that if I saw a boat aground now and they said everything was OK I would radio through to let the coastguard know of their predicament "just to be sure". Isn't hindsight wonderful !
  2. Congratulations and grats on the cod
  3. Nige, Same here - went to same mark I had the biggun before and not a touch. Grinch had one fishing to the north of me I heard. Still that's fishing for you I guess. and well done on the cod on Wight Magic, sounded on the radio that you were having a good day.
  4. What gorgeous conditions to be out in. The river was impressively high when we launched at Wick. Saw Gordon with Fugazi on the way out but my crew was late, so had to wait for Nigel to turn up form Southampton. Off through the harbour and straight for "the spot". Only a short trip today as have to be up extra early tomorrow. Fishing was slow and only managed 5 whiting between us ( 4 to Nigel and 1 to me ), although I think we would have had more had we scaled down tackle size, but we were targeting cod. Looks like I "peaked" too early - ah well, from the radio I heard of a couple of good fish were caught and I am sure there will be more to those that stayed out through the low water. Coming back in met up with Marineboy and so glad I got to the run by 2PM otherwise there would have been no way in - it was rocketing out.
  5. Happy birthday Rob
  6. and a challenge it was indeed .....
  7. Glad one of you got a cod ( Dave certainly has the hang of this cod fishing lark - I remember him bagging three ? on Neo a couple of years back ), I guess conditions were not too good, hopefully better tomorrow.
  8. Will be fishing with my work colleague Nigel ( I heard people called Nigel catch all the cod ) Heading out of Christchurch around 8:00 AM ish
  9. Should be fixed now. Shame other browsers are not as intelligent as IE.....
  10. Agreed - does look a bit grim
  11. Certainly hope so - I am planning to fish it.
  12. If any of you need a box of Ilex or Loligo of the more expensive unwashed variety then i have 1 box loligo and 1 ilex which you could collect from mine "en-route" ( I have also got 3 boxes ilex supposedly coming today but i suspect snow might prevent that. )
  13. Just took a read myself and did you see those two 30lb plus fish and the 4lb 10oz whiting that the guys caught on the yacht. The real big one looks like a huge carp !
  14. Tommo is pondering over going out / I am still considering but beginning to think it will be way to cold in the wind. Conditions are indeed very similar apart from being "somewhat" colder. Need to wrap up well as the breeze is going to give a large wind chill factor I suspect.

    Cod Hooks

I got my Sakuma hooks from Christchurch Angling. Cost nearly 50p per hook but worth every penny if you dont drop fish.

    Cod Hooks

8/0 Big Mouth or the Sakuma ones which cost a few bob but are well sharp. Even then I have lost 2 fish on last 2 trips and one of the 3 I caught during these trips had the hook in the edge of the mouth and this dropped out when the fish was brought aboard. I have come to the conclusion it is best to leave the fish to get the bait well down its gob - but then when a bite comes to nothing I then conclude I should have wound into it earlier - decisions / decisions !

    Sunday

Looking to go out Sunday and am awaiting a reply from my work colleague. As it is late notice it is likely I will have a space for crew, so if anyone is up for a go at the cod on sunday ( assuming not too rough ) then contact me as likely to be a space going.

    Sunday

Planning on a Sunday trip at the moment. MagicSeaweed seems to indicate the afternoon shouldn't be too bad ......
  21. tERRY, I bought mine from L&J marine, but they now no longer do marine stuff and their franchise was taken over by South Coast Marine in Christchurch. Had mine serviced there many times. My friend here at Havant ( and indeed PJ ) bought there E-Tecs from PowerTech over on Hayling Island ( Thorney Marina I think ). They seem to give very competitive quotes.
  22. 1) See if low voltage is reported when switched to battery 1 and then see if same problem occurs when switched to battery 2. If occurs on both then unlikely to be a battery problem. ( unless you r unlucky and two duff batteries ) 2) Check lead from engine to the battery 1-2-both switch ( ie. connection ) I suspect that one of your batteries is faulty as voltage when charging should be 13.8 + I think. or could be the regulator . If you have power tilt you will be able to tell which one is not so good ( on Neo one battery is starting to fail to charge and I can tell this by the effort to tilt the engine. It does it slower )

    Happy birthday Terry
  24. Decided to go from Christchurch and go for an early start / early finish. See you all out there as I suspect it may be busy "Bumped into" Gordon on Fugazi earlier
  25. WOW indeed and hats off to him for refusing to kill it just to get his name in the record books.
