    Snow go!

Well, attempted to get to work this morning and the A35 through the forest was a complete nightmare. Decided to turn back once I then heard the A27 had been closed and the snow was falling again. -3 deg and the road was a complete skating rink. Why is it some people still insist on driving right up you backside in such conditions ? Got to Homsley and found that the TNT lorry further in fornt could not get up the hill. After 1 hour turned around and tried to take a back road - decided this was a bad move having seen 2 cars in the ditch, so turned back and waited at end of queue for the snow to thaw. Back home by 11AM. ( Thats 3 1/2 hrs of skating around the forest ) Fortunately my employers are more considerate than some others

    Snow go!

Alun, Interesting picture. Go up Roeshot hill and get to Walkford and my side road is still completely covered in snow, along with the drive and garden. Too dark to take a picture now, but like you say, a bit of altitiude ( and I guess distance from the sea ? ) makes all the difference.

    Snow go!

Driving through the forest was "interesting". A338 was also closed. - Bit more than a "light dusting" up there Alun
  6. You should be seeing around 14.4 volts to charge the battery. Lower than this and you will not be charging the battery or not charging the battery sufficiently ( 13.8 V will trickle charge a lead acid battery ) See below for some useful values : Battery Charging Voltages Would also be useful if you had an ammeter to see what sort of charging current ( not much I suspect ). My guess as to the problem ? - Regulator ?
  7. Tom, I have got one in my shed if you want to collect ( will fit in a hatchback size car )
  8. The BASS society also have commented on these proposals and I have been asked to update their website as you can see here :- BASS Homepage
  9. RE: Petrol :- Mark from Alderney Angling has been really helpful as ever and the information to date is :- Fuel can be got from the petrol station at the top of the harbour using jerry cans. . However, we could well be seeing a fuel pump at the waterside, either in the inner harbour or at a later date on the quay. He is going to let me know by April time. Prices I think are 88p/litre. The petrol station is apparently within walking distance.
  10. Charlie, Do they do petrol as well ? - If so what is their price ( Just thinking of the refuelling of Just Purfick ).
  11. Get well soon Gordon. Just picturing you hanging a ground bait "sack" over the side of Enticer
  12. Best wishes Peter
  13. Brian, That is spot on. If you move the switch through the "OFF" position with engine running then this is what can damage/destroy the rectifier. If a current is flowing and it is immediately interrupted then due to inductance the voltage will soar and a voltage "spike" occurs - this can/will destroy the diodes within the rectifier pack. However, I am still pondering how a rectifier/regulator can be destroyed when running with no battery connected - I am presuming same issue if running with radio / lights connected and these are suddenly tuned off.

    Paul D - Can we??

You can embed the utube link like any other URL. ( just paste it between the normal URL tags ). To get the video to play embedded within the forum is more complicated and allowing this to be done by members opens us up to potential problems from hackers etc. For this reason the ability to do this is restricted.

    Paul D - Can we??

You can upload them here - but have to know what you are doing ;-) DYOR
  17. Conversely, I have always used 2 bog standard car batteries and although a "leisure" battery does allow a slow drain and is designed for slower drain deeper discharge etc. a car battery still works fine for our purposes.. If your boat has a fridge . TV etc. then yes a leisure battery makes sense for powering these. Whereas if all you have is a bait pump and VHF plus some nav lights, I have had no issues. ( apart from having to replace one which died on me - 1 battery in 4 years. )
