  6. Well done Alun and Paul! Oops! its the first fish I've reported in ages so must be a bit rusty! as for cod bites, I let the rod holder do all the work when the tide is running, I find most cod just hook themselves. on the slack I do hold the rod tho and as the boat swings round I just keep in contact with the bottom. The first 18lber yesterday was while holding the rod James
  7. Saturday is looking fishable now too, Fill ure boots chaps!

  11. Well done Alun, back amongst them again, were certainly having a bit of a cod comeback this year, its really good to see with all the doom and gloom of Declining fish stocks, long may it continue!!
  12. Hi all I've Got a few days holiday so Im going to venture out tomorrow to have my annual bash for the cod weather looks good but due to those tides, I'll be fishing into the evening so got a long day out there.. cant wait! James
  13. Hi Everyone Its been a while! its been a bit of a hectic summer, but not on the boat!, every time a get "The window" to get the boat of the drive something has got in the way. As beach fishing is as close as i could get and is not affected by tide times (as much) and weather, I've given it a fair crack of the whip. so Ive been doing a lots of beach fishing!, well two or three times a week Ive fished, southbourne the most, but sandbanks, the harbours Poole and xchurch, Avon beach , Boscombe and Bournemouth piers and beaches!, the solent and selsey, Highcliff and Taddiford and hordle! Also done a night trip to Brixham (Berry head )and even been fishing Chesil and walked for Bloody miles on that shingle and Ive caught BU@*ER ALL! To be fair I caught two new species in one night red mullet and gilthead bream at sandbanks, but other than that, a waste of a summer! just lots of pout a few mackerel and small stuff( Aquarium size!) rays and smooth hounds ,bass and markerel but not one fish big enough to eat!! I hope to be getting the boat out a bit more .................... Tight Lines James
  14. Dusted of the rods and boat an managed to get out for my first fishing trip since the cod! don't think Ive missed much tho Headed out in what was a slightly rougher sea than anticipated, for a go for the bream, got out late about 11 and was soon joined by PJ on marine boy. The fishing started with a few wrasse and pout and then first bright blue bream of the season was sat bristling in the net, a shade under 3lb Then after being slopped about for a biteless slack we upped sticks and changed tactics and had a quick drift for an early Bass, second drift , my bait was slammed buy a beautiful conditioned 4lb Bass Then a quick dash to beat the tide up a slightly different looking channel up the run! A great start to the season, I just hope I can doge growing commitments and get out a bit more. Tight lines James
  15. What a fish! fantastic Alun, very well done. Thats one club record that will certainly take some beating! James
  16. Well done Alun , good report, as always! Perseverance paid off James
  17. well done chaps on getting a few, we saw you coming from a way off, Alfresco has a presence about here ploughing thew the sea towards you! We drew a blank for the cod and only managed dogs and one small spotted ray,I also noted apart from the lack of cod was not a single pout or whiting not even on a light rod chucked out which was odd!? Corky and I set of for an early start, 6am and were fishing just after 7!! only had a short trip due to the tides and only just scrapped up the run at 12.30 loosing a bit of my prop in the process! James
  18. Just got emailed this pic from mark, its a still taken from the camcorder footage of our cod trip from before this B#*!.%! weather set in I think we look pretty happy!!
  19. well done Alun that's quite a haul of flounders I might have to learn how to fish the float for them to. James
  20. Good call I didn't like the prospect of launching the boat in winds pushing 50mph with driving rain I cant fish the 16th tho I'm taking the missus to see Wet Wet Wet! I kinda mentioned to her ,if we could come back early and she gave me a stare like Ive never seen before! followed by "I cant believe you asked me that, I'll pretend I didn't here you" ! (shes a big fan and booked the tickets 9 months ago) Good luck everyone that's fishing James h!!

  24. thanks for your comments guys, Daz you will get quite a few congers now the waters a bit more coloured. corkys best to try the slate beds out of Poole if you want to get a few or any of the wrecks, but there's the odd one about on most deepish Marks round the ledge and on xray this time of year. there's also the OD ray about inshore but there moving out deeper we just need a weather window to get back out there, a miracle happened yesterday tho, the missus asked if I would like to go fishing again as the kids love eating cod!! I asked if she was feeling OK!!! tight lines James
  25. on gutting the 4 cod we found all sorts in the stomachs! so I thought i would share with you the contents the 20lber had, 2 pout one 5 inches a crab, blue swimmer a flat stone a whelk and half a dozen sycamore seeds! the 18 had 1pout 2blue swimmers the 19 had 7! pout one about 6inchs and a crab and the 7lber just a crab after seeing all the pout in their stomachs I was half tempted to fish with a live one as bait!
