The boats back on the drive having her winter clean and TLC so a good time to have a drive to weymouth, ive got the 15th and 16th of march booked of work, so weather gods allowing was gonig to give it a go, I have not looked into tides ect but will be still going even if its a spring! its the only days I can book of work till June! I have crew but any boats want to tag along would be good to have some company! James

Was a bit of a long day on Dawn raider today we were the first boat to the needles this morning and after a move inshore the last to leave! with the fish well spaced apart! It was Mark my crews day today but with a nick in a top eye cost him a cod or two it could have been even better!, after removeing the problem eye he went on to land a PB 20lber! and another of about 8/10lbs, I had a 18 lber and lost one, the big one will have to wait James

well done on that cod nige and mike yesterday! It was average wind speed of 21mph gusting 28mph of hurst yesterday afternoon does sound lumpy! James

Thanks for your comments. It is a good year for the cod so many big fish are coming out A lot of boats out there looking tho, its not always that easy, seems to be a handful of boats each day on the fish the rest struggle. Jw2000 peeler and squid would work but peeler seems a little pricey to chuck at the pout and dogs! a decent cod bait would need 6 or so!!, I use squid and cuttle and lots of it! about a 5lb box per rod per day sometimes more! fishing at least 6 on a pennel, the cod arnt really on the ledge you need deeper water its over the back of the ledge. They can turn up anywhere in the bay, its a bit of a waiting game! James

Hi all , we went for the window this morning and so glad we did the sea was like a millpool as we headed out the run and out over to the ledge, we made the right call to not going to the needles due to the worsening forcast ,it was a bit snotty out there come 3pm but it was tempting to move! and i very nearly did at midday after not even a bite! Im glad I didnt tho as All came good and the cod showed, I had 4 with a couple of small ones first, followed buy one of the hardest fighting, longest cod Ive ever caught! well over a metre and on dry land he went 21lbs10oz could have been a much heavier fish, had to be a big old male , long thin, no roe and empty gut, in condtion or female would have been a mid twenty, still my best fish this year, my cod weight PB is not beaten but got to be the longest and what a fight! also managed a 18lber before the swells tripped my anchor and sent us home early, heres to the next window! James

Good effort ! It was horrible out there the last couple of days! trying to keep a lead on the bottom was hard enuff! saw the balloon users out in force, there was a steady stream drifting past us on wednesday! lol must be hard work on a charter full of anglers on a big sea! how big was the winning fish nige? James

It was hard going today I didnt make the carpark due to the forcast and stayed closer to home we only had 1 small cod 7lbs and a strap conger and came in at lunch time! james
-
I will be out giving it a go, I will be heading to the wight, made it there today after a short spell inshore it seemed calm enuff to head out further, Only 20 mins after dropping the hook the wind picked up to a good 20mph + so we limped home, its got to be calmer than today! but this time of year be prepared for the weather men to get it wrong! James

Well Done, some nice cod there! and flattys Mike!! I hope to be back out this week, fingers crossed for the weather, ive got the week off James

I Saw the window today and with a quick holiday request saw us heading to the carpark . We met up with Paul J in the harbour on the way out. It was a good run out to the needles, we got there for the end of the flood and mark was straight in to cod on the drop!! 19lb! then 20 mins later, mark again and PJ alongside! I still had not had a sniff! marks second cod went 8lb. anouther 30 mins and my turn.......... Bloody grey cod! Made a comeback tho and soon after a fighting fit19lber to me the soon after an 18lber!! mark then landed a third cod at 15lbs! Great fishing!! that was it, no more but very happy with that ......... whens the next window! James
