  1. Weather looks a little bit snotty but fishable so I might well venture out will decide tomorrow. If I go Rich Ill give you a shout you OK for short notice? James
  2. Well done Dan thats one stonking mullet. James
  3. MY WATCH WORKS!!!! Last year the one that moans at me for going fishing buys me a fishing watch , then always moans at me for going fishing yet buys me a watch that tells me when I should go and yes Sunday was the best fishing day of the month (according to the watch) and the club bass record falls so its go to be at least worth taking some note of James
  4. Well that club record had been rocked a few times lately so it had to go some time ,it had stood for 11 years! super fishing Al and Rupe and I think fishing doesn't get any better! .....................................................or does it!!! James
  5. Bob, I think I raised this question before. I think the advise was just steer clear !! I recall "diving for the shore at 30knots" beaching the boat and running for cover under the cliffs in a very electrical storm last year! If the situation was to arise, fingers crossed! I think unless your actually holding a rod that's get struck you will be fine but your electrics wont be so lucky James
  6. Andy The size of the tide doesn't make a huge difference but Ive have done slightly better on the bigger tides, but its does have to be dark. The fishing should get better up until September James
  7. Whats the new boat then Alun?
  8. Go Les and Gordon, your getting amongst some good sized bass lately Ive struggled to get one bigger than 5lb on the last few trips out well done James
  9. WOW Marine boy is going to fly. super job Paul. James
  10. Well done Andy.I'm glad you managed to snare a few, It wasn't the best of conditions out there for the sole, that wind was howling when we got back in. Hope the weathers better for the next trip. How big were the sole? any doormats? James
  11. Nice Boat
  12. I cant see no land
  13. I do have a couple of better photos but theres a bit too much in the background to post on here James
  14. And going back to get bigger
  15. Here she is
  16. Good to see someone else trying for those ledge eels, there are some real monsters out there and they seem to average about 40lb which is huge for inshore eels. A net is definitely the best way to land them, when you get the hang of getting there tail in and dropping the eel in back in with the tide you can solo 50lbers while your fishing partners is counting zzzzzzzzz's James
  17. Andy, ragworm normally does the job or you can use lug, some people like smelly just on the turn bait for sole but I like fresh. Some times there can be a lot of spiders on the mark and small bream so take quite a few worms. Don't forget small hooks size 1 or smaller sole have small mouths and don't strike to soon let them chew! Tackle wise You can fish as light as poss say a spinning rod with 12lb line which can be fun if you hook a ray! James
  18. Just Starting a new post for Fridays first sole foray of the year. So far I think there's Gnasher Lady Jane Enticer and Dawn Raider Any ones else is welcome to come along. LW is at 7.30pm at the run, so A 6pm launch should just scrape out over the bar, or a 9pm launch if you want to meet us down there. HW is at 12.30am so we can get in any time from then until 3am.I think we are heading towards Barton,I'll probably have a go for the bass during the daylight hours to kill some time until the sole start feeding. James
  19. There really are some good fish out there at the moment, and were not yet at the best time of the year for the bigger fish. Two doubles in one trip is really fantastic fishing Well done chaps. James
  20. Nice one Charlie, good to see you getting in on the action, I'm surprised you didn't get Humphrey to drop the anchor on one of those mid channel wrecks for a conger or two. James
  21. Gutted Paul,It did seem a bit tempermental when you took me out Ive also been there...... A long long time before I was a club member. I had to be rescued by the lifeboat ,and have the "tow of shame" up mudeford run , crew clad in space blankets with blue light 's flashing your welcome out on DR anytime, Ill give you a shout,I hope the new lump doesn't sting too much! James
  22. After a last minute phone call from one of my freshwater fishing mates (mark) "any chance coming down from for a go for a bass tonight" the FPO said "yes" and like a shot I raced back from work and was out there. Greeted my mirror like seas we bagged up on macky and went for the bass, they seemed to be really wanting it with the bass hitting the baits like steam trains After a few drifts and just on sunset I hooked a bass that just roared off and after a good tussle a huge bass broke the surface and mark scooped the net under my first double of the season at 10lb 8oz Mark had his video camera so its all on film including her release, but my camera had flat batteries so you will have to wait until I get the stills of his video to see some pics James
  23. Headed out Friday evening to have a go for a conger and with the hope of a Better Bass.It was mirror calm and after a few drifts for mackerel we killed the remaining daylight hours with a spot of bass fishing I waded through about 6 before my crew (my boss at work) finally hooked one , all fairly small by recent reported bass but on light tackle great sport with my best 3 all in the 5lb range. Then on to the conger mark, but not a sniff. We sat it out till 3am with not a conger to be seen!. well I had another Bass! this one was better at around 7/8lb but on a 10/0 ,150lb trace and a 30lb class rod not the best sport and let go of the 1/2 pout conger bait at the net. Sunday night saw me fighting my way past the hundreds (yes HUNDREDS!!!!!!) of boats coming in at the slip.Includeing Adam and Gordon waving there huge cod at me proudly, to have another go for the bass but with a change of tack,I was going to target the bass on the conger mark on the drift at night with the hope of a better fish.It worked! well nearly just after dark my mackerel bait was thumped by a good fish and after a spirited scrap, in the torch light appeared what looked like a good fish hit the surface only to be all head ,it was long enough to be a double! and had a huge head but all skin and bone it looked like it had been damaged or stuck in a net or longline That was backed up by 8 more all but one to me I seem to be on form with the bass lately .............so the quest for that elusive monster bass continues James
