Headed out today aboard loyal royal to the needles with Mark, we fished the ebb and the first of the flood but no beasties today hoards of pout and a few dogs but no cod.......... well for everyone but mark who managed a cod of about a 1lb The whiting put in an apperance with a few good ones thrown in , but that was it for us. maverick was out to and had a similar day to us as did all the outher boats out there with no cod caught today as far as I no I did here of a monster caught yesterday.............39lbs!!!!!!! 10. Kam I was about 3/4 mile SE of the needles on the carpark!! The tide was half way through the flood and I hooked and lost what I think was anouther cod At the start of the flood. I defintly prefer the flood tide for cod fishing. Mark your welcome to a fillet for the xmas party if you were being serious It would make a fair few goujons!! James
  11. Its not a wave if you look closely its the IOW!!!!! But yes it was a tad lumpy out there today but it wasent as bad a sunday. James

  14. Managed to get out again today on the last day of my week off, to snare a cod or 2. As usual out across the bay whiles its still dark and lines down before sunrise First fish aboard was a smothhound about 7lbs and followed buy a 18lb conger, with not a doggy in site!! . Also as usual the weather picked up and went about a 4 southerly , wind agenst tide but we battled on and it paid of ....l.........after 3-4 hours I was in to the beast! and after a good fight agaist the tide a very fine looking cod was in the net . On the boat it weighed between 23 & 24 lbs, back on dry land she went 23lb 2oz a new PB for me Tight lines James
  15. Heres the 40lb conger I caught last week. James
  16. Hi all Ive been out off the needles for the last 2 days on tara, Yesterday steamed out from wick at 6am and halfway there before it got light! Got there for the last of the ebb and was playing a skate by 7am The sea was like a mill pool all day and we had a few fish on . Is was also the same days as this years lymington cod comp and we got a good comentry on the vhf. lots of cod caught probably about 15 or so the biggist I heard of was a 23lber and a 29lb lump. we had 1 on tara to Mark a good cod of 17lbs ,I had 2 skate in the end 1 small blonde and a spotted, and malc had a small conger with shed loads of whiting to 2 1/2 lbs and a good day had by all Today however couldnt have been more different, no whiting, no cod ,no rays just 1 small conger, the charter boats did badly as well with just 2 cod taken when we left .It just goes to show how different the same mark can fish on 2 different days. Roll on sunday. Heres marks 17lber
  17. Ive been getting a few hermits from one the the trawlers out of poole. Im keeping them in my fishtank, as pets! he said theres hardly any around at the moment. Is there a hermit season? James
  18. well done billy.....and theres bigger down there!, thats some wrasse spot youve got on the hermit front if there dead I find just a gentle pull on the antenas, pulls them at just the right angle to slide them out, not the claws wich normally just snap off! James
  19. Im well impressed with your moveing diagrams bob It make it 10 times eaiser to understand I could never quite get to grips with Those knot diagrams you get in Books James
  20. Hi Bob The good lady sea fisher rose did the netting honours.
  21. Headed out to the needles today in tara to have a go for those cod, made an early start and was on the way out before sunrise at 6.30am .The sea was flat calm with a light nth breeze and I was the first boat on the mark ,not for long though and the lymington fleet was soon all around with sundance dropping anchor right alongside with gives you a bit of confidence that your on the right mark There were plenty of fish about but all pout and dogs with a few channels, the pout were some of the biggest ive caught With a few well over 2lb!! and takeing 8/0 pennels with a chain of sqiud on!! Fished the last hour of the flood the slack and the first hour of the ebb with no sign of a better fish then 2, 5lb boxes of squid later!!!! in the full run of the tide with 2lb of lead I hooked a bloody conger 30mins later with a fair bit of cramp in the arms up came a 40lb eel ,He was a bit of a battle scared beast with 2 outher hooks and a fair bit of line hanging from him, but he brightened up a outher wise codless day. Tight lines James
  22. The shark was hooked by andy Adams(skipper of random harvest) on the slates It took a bottom bait then got tangled in the outher lines ,they got it to the boat where it started thrashing about and broke free. They wernt sure how big it was but the tip of its tail of its tail was about 3 feet long!! James
  23. Hi Alan Baiter is a very shallow slip even at high water, as mike says best to aviod 2 hrs either side of low tide .It can even be a pain a high water especially if yove got a large boat. Be prepared to un hitch the trailer and walk it out to the boat and pack some extra rope so you can retreve the boat once its back on the trailer! And watch the step at the end of the slip if your trailer goes over it , it can be a b#'@*$ to retive. Hope this is of help James
  24. Any takers for a trip out tomorrow on tara ?
