Hi all managed to get out last nite as planned with Mappo and his dad, the plan was off to Xray for a ray till dark then on to the ledge, Its was blowing a northley 3 or 4 when we left and we thourght it would be calmish out there, was it heck!! just for a change a lumpy snotty sea, again!! But it didnt stop the fish from biteing After about an hour I had a mad spell with 3 fish on in about 20 minites the first was a small eye of 9lb 12oz then anouther of 10lb 12oz on a live mackrel!!! then as that was haveing its mug shot taken my rod was off again but the hook pulled. On the ledge my luck was still in as I managed a conger first cast but just a baby of 25lbs. then we sat there for 3 hours with out a bite, Thats fishing I suppose! Tight lines James

As duncan said it was a bit snotty out there, but we managed a few fish. As for that ray bite!............aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Its still sore now!! gutted I lost that conger, I had weakened the hook buy bending the hook while unhooking a tope, wich I then straightend with my pliers,Wont be makeing that mistake again!! thanks for the trip out duncan, one day we might get a calm sea! Well at last my first eel of 2004 and what a fish after almost turning round to go home due to the swell breaking over the ledge, We decided to stick it out and try and get a few mackrel and see what the sea was going to do. After and hour or so the waves died back and we had filled the bait bucket with mackrel and bagged a few bonus pollock, kev also managed a nice bass. we then sneaked over the ledge and had a bash for a ray but with no joy just loads of lsd's and a few pack tope so as darkness fell it was back to the ledge for a conger. Kev was in first with a good fish right on slack water but the main problem was getting it in!! as I had left my gaff on Bw and had no net! so i had rigged up a gaff with some 8/0 hooks, heavy mono, tape and a deck brush!!!! but it didnt work and as the eel came half way over the side the hooks straightend and he was gone we estimated it as a good 40 then before I new it my rod was bent double and it was my turn, after what felt like forever i played my fish while kev re rigged the gaff/broom!!! After several attemps we finaly got him on the gaff and this time it worked and the biggest eel ive ever seen was flapping on taras deck!! the scales were flickering between 58 and 66 lbs so I think a can settle for a 60lber and a new pb by 5 lb After the photos I thourght I better reel in my light rod incase I got anouther eel of that sort of size on that!! only to find that I had a fish on wich after a hart stopping moment when I thourght it was anouther eel. It turned out to be a 9lb 8oz huss Cant wait to get back out James

Hi all just come back from a very blustery species comp adam and I started off in xchurch harbour for the mullet and bass but theses were playing hard to get so we headed out to sea fishless after half hour of trying we were met by a pretty angry sea comeing over the ledge but BW handled it very well, If i was on tara I would have turned back! So the fishing started and the mackrel were soon flapping in the fish bucket After ancoring I had a ray first cast wich was about the best fish of the comp for me, and we seemed to scratch about for the rest of the day but I did manage a fair score in the end. The final tally was.......... 4 mackrel 4 bream 4 wrasse 4 dogs 3 mullet 1 smoothhound 1 ray I think that works out to 112 points ... Charlie can you book these in? Thanks James
