With such good weather this weekend and all the posts in boat buddys I was expecting to get in from work to see reports and tales of battles with monster fish where are they!!??

Paul,it was just of the needles.

Adam and myself made an early start this morning to try and snare a cod of the needles abourd the good ship BW,And by 7am we were crossing the bay towards the cod grounds. It was a tad lumpy out there with the wind comeing in from the south but not to bad .After finding our spot, the tide was just starting to flood and with in 1/2 hour after what seemed to be a doggy bite, my rod was buckled over to the tune of "NOD NOD NOD" thats got to be a cod and sure enuff up came a very plump 12lb cod in fine condition. then barely 10 minites later adam went all quiet while reeling in .........then came a shout ANOUTHER COD! only a small one but is was a cod . We thourght we were in for a good day with 2 cod in the first hour but that was out lot.we fished the hole of the flood and adam managed a small conger and I had a 4lb spotted ray along with the hoards of pout and dogs, With a smattering of good sized channels.All in all a good day.Thanks Adam for anouther cracking day Tight lines James

Ive only gone and bloody won it!!!! But i see word travels fast and you all already no. Well as a df70 will sink tara shes got to go to make room for a raider 16 any offers? shes the probably luckest boat in poole!!!

They issue bait on the day ,dont no what its going to be yet , I could use trimmed down squid tentacles instead of maggots?? been busy today tyeing more riggs modelled on the one's you sent me and digging out my super light gear, a spinning rod with a small fixed spool, loaded with 10lb braid....looking at the weather its going to be in the habour so im going to need it. I also agree with paul, when the waters clear the cod are hunting by sight,when its murky (poole bay in the winter) there hunting buy smell. thats why we end up useing half a tonne of squid on a hook!!! James

Cheers guys, the comp is on friday the 29th .BB would love to see one of your scratching rigs to see how they compare to mine {and yours work!} I took the day of work today and after spending a small fortune in bournemouth fishing lodge, think ive got all the rigs bits i need and a new rod and reel I realy shoulnt go in to tackle shops with any money in my pocket! Been tieing a few scratching rigs this morning and should be testing them out tomorrow and sunday to see if they can catch any fish{and dont just look pretty}

yep ive got em,can bring them to the next meeting or pop them into yours after work one day. James

cheers rich, I was maybe going to use a set of baited shrimp rigs, any help would be greatly welcomed. I was going to try out a few mini rigs on thursday out with adam to see how they fish. James

The format for the final is going to be a species hunt, maxium of 2 hooks and the same bait issued to each angler. I think the plan of action is to get out to the cod grounds if the weather allows, plan b being scratching in the harbour. Im a little bit worried though because ive never fished a species match from a charter boat. When adam and I fish the club comps i think its the marks that give us the edge. Ill just give it my best shot. Any one got any good scratching rig ideas? James

No prob rich will be calling you soon. Wont be able to go till november though, am out boatfishing no matter what the weather throws at me !!! on all my days off for the next 2 weeks, need to practice " scratching " in poole harbour for the BFM final

Spoke to a freind today, who had a few whiting lastnite nothing big but there on the way in All I need now is some decent weather on my days of to go out and fish for them! James

I think ive got the right idea to wet a line when the weathers crap!! Go pike fishing had 7 this morning biggest just scraped 20lb I should take tara up the stour and book them in with charlie so he can have some fish in the book for oct

I needed an alderney ring for tara, so I might just invest in one of those instead

Ill be working both those days as usual
