Well I didn't get out at all ๐ My maintenance tasks varied from completed no problems to almighty hassle. VHF aerial repair seems to work but could not prove its range as although tried calling Hengisbury Head NCI and Stingray got no reply .Cobbs Marina replied loud and clear it was only 100m away.๐ Main task was to repair my sliding cockpit door which was a lot more involved than first thought.Needless to say boat ended up being put back on rack minus door at the end of the morning and I took the offending parts back home to repair broken guide rollers and drill out snapped screws and to buy a rivet gun and appropriate rivets (some fixings had been riveted for security).๐ฃ Anyway yesterday afternoon and evenings repairs went well and I turned up at the marina early this morning to refit the repaired door.Good job I had the early start I had one of the last car park spaces at 07.45 and from then on the place became more and more manic Got everything sorted by about 10.30 and made the decision to get back home rather than take the boat out to miss the bank holiday boat and car traffic . Had a great trip home as traveling against the traffic which was virtually stopped all the way from Wimborne roundabout A31 to M3 Winchester. Door slide and locking operate a treat with new fixings very pleased with my handiwork Tomorrows task is to modify my sons kitchen units to fit the new oven and fridge freezer he is about to buy....who says retirement is boring๐ Peteg

I'll be at the boat tomorrow reinstalling the VHF Aerial which I have now hopefully repaired. If it works I will of course have to re-christen it with whatever shows up to my mackerel feathers. I have a few maintenance jobs that also need sorting so won't be able to linger too long though and don't expect to bump into you Sole hunters. Hope you all have a productive evening

Love the bit about "Mariners need to check the headroom displays at the bridge to judge if they can pass below without the bridge being lifted" Poole Council still hadn't fixed them last time out ....must be getting on for 6 months now ๐ Any further news on their status?

Heads Up, Just thought I 'd share this as it seems an opportune post. Recently visited Porthcawl insurance to try and get some clarification on some of the restrictions on my Boat insurance. Re fishing at night . My insurance doesn't cover me if I go out in the dark and come back in the dark . It does cover going out in the light and coming back when its dark as it can be construed that there are many reasons that prevent you coming back before darkness sets in .eg tides, weather, bridge lifts etc etc. If night cover is required I think day skipper is the minimum required qualification as evidence of light and bouyage competence is required. 20 mile cover Also I tried to extend my 12 mile to 20 mile range on my policy but it required fitting an auxiliary means of propulsion not necessarily capable of getting you home (but recommended) but to keep the boat heading into the sea rather than risk broaching when beam on under engine failure. No room to fit one on mine but I do have a sea anchor drogue that would help under engine failure conditions. My cover is staying at 12 mile from nearest land as I never exceed that anyway It may be that an alternative insurer may have alternative views although I think most are looking to reduce their exposure to risk as my policy terms with the same insurer are becoming tighter each year. You only seem to find out your not covered when you make a claim๐ Worth checking yours guys I know a lot of you are with Porthcawl Insurance Brokers. Steve at Porthcawl is a great guy and very helpful and tied in with the local RNLI an ex small boat owner and knows his stuff. Needless to say I still get my insurance from him Peteg
