  3. So we squeaked out the flattie on the flood?? Rich
  4. Out of interest, what was the tide time for last years Open??? Any ideas......Bob?? I'm formulating!!!!! Rich
  5. Hi Bob, we have already spoken at length, and as Martin correctly says, time is a healer. The one thing that none of us can determine, is when we leave, we can only make best use of the time we spend here. It sounds as though your father spent his time wisely, pursuing his loves, and raising his family. My thoughts go to your mother, and of course you and Karen. Speak soon, Rich
  6. Doh!!!!!! Scale as in weight........not growth, , I see. (must see if that 12lb 12oz beauty was snapped on a scale!!! I think that secret mark off the Western end of the IOW, should produce the goods.......what say you Tom?? Stil plenty being taken out west, Josh had a huge 8lber on a super sour snake sweet, in his annual Suckerfish tournament, where the only bait allowed is sweets!!!! I think I'll stick to proper lures!! Top marks to BASS for joining in the sponsorship. Rich
  7. Nice one PJ, scale reading??? Perhaps we should give a demo on scale removal at the Nov meeteing??? Rich
  8. Mike, the first whiting are showing farther west, Weymouth direction. Numbers still seem to be thin on the ground outside Poole Bay. Another few weeks methinks. Rich
  9. A warm welcome, Ian.......forgive the Gay Bears!!!! I think its their age!!! Enjoy the best small boat forum on the net. Rich
  10. Still squeaking out summer species in weymouth, today, namely mackeral a plenty, garfish, scad, pollock, pout, L.S.D's, bream, mini's, and a John Dory, so they are still about!! Rich
  11. The smaller beads above and below the clevis pin allow freer movement of the blade. Rich
  12. Here is the rig that produces most flatties for me.........helped me squeak out that last minute Flounder in last years open. Two important factors of this rig, 1) It must be retrieved slowly back towards the boat. 2) The blade spins better on a hollow clevis pin, as opposed to a cheaper folded one.
  13. Welcome aboard Richard......enjoy!! Rich
  14. Now I'm on the very last item on the forum comp for the rod, I have time to post! Great article, very good fish, nice one lads. When you consider how strong LSD's are, for their size, it follows that their ig brothers are equally as strong...........just think how that other snarly griblett shark would have struggled if you had boated that one one 'yak!! I still think that was a small Blue or similar, but who knows?? Well done, anyway, puts us big boaters, or bloaters, to shame!! Rich

Terry, welcom to the club. Please dont even think of taking my gold star for attendance to club meetings driving from southampton!!!! Will be good to see you afloat. If you want to fish the Open Comp, and believe me we have a huge prize table, post in the club comp section, aqnd ask to crew for someone. Im sure you will get a seat. Tight lines......... Rich
  21. Hiya Dom, bit early for Whiting, if you are launching out of Lymo. Sole are definately top sport in the Solent at the moment, the boats are hitting the mark where last years boat record came from Rays are still being taken, and Bass are still over the "usual mark" How do you fancy trailing to Weymouth?? Long Haul, I know, better fishing, by far!!! Rich
  22. Mike, do you want a couple of Herring Rigs?? I sent Mad Mike a couple, and have yet to hear how he has faired. My rigs used down in Weymouth have produced Herring a plenty. Ive deleted Georges address, if you want a couple, PM your Address again, (sorry!) and I will send you a couple of rigs. They are best cut down to three hooks, to ensure no foul hoked fish, these rigs double up as Sandeel and Launce rigs. Fish them on a straight through dropper, with a top secret Rich weight on the bottom!!! Results are sure to follow!! Rich
  23. Spoke with Bily testerday....no ink showing on the stone walls, but some being taken over the inshore wrecks, like the Hartlepool as I suggested, one boat reported 31. I am fishing a conger trip tuesday evening, but may try and get mark to fish this weekend out of weymouth, try and bag another slam before they all go offshore. There is also a chance of breaking a couple of smaller club records....pout and Gars, so may try for those. Gordon, are you going sunday?????? Rich
  24. Mike, my rigs have taken both flounder and plaice, flounder in Poole Harbour, and Plaice on the Shambles. The trick I have found with flounders, is to cast inshore, and slowly retrieve the rig, the revolving spoon adds attraction to the flounder, and they will follow this along the bottom, and rise up to the boat and take it midwater, and Ive taken them just subsurface. I think its all about the colour of the rig, not the position of the spoon. Reds and whites/yellows work well for flounder, while I have found green and black or purple and black combinations have worked better for me over the beds down in weymouth. In last years Top Cat versus Flamer plaice comp, I was a non counting fisher, and took seven Plaice, and one Dab on my normal flounder rig. My personal belief, if I'm totally honest, is its just the day, and what they want. The best bait by far on the hook, is white rag, small bunches, these are a killer. Rich
  25. Gordon, the hartlepool holds a few squid this time of year, its a small wreck just outside the harbour, the banks will hold cuttle, the Hood is producing squid, so they are about Best bet is to PM boybilly, he will give you up to date advice, he will have afished a small comp on the Noth Fort on monday evening, the squid may have been there too. Hope this helps. Rich
