i am aiming mainly for fishing and maybe a bit of play in summer. i will probably only ever take two people out fishing at a time so i am not too worried about having a great amount of deck space. but i like the idea of a cabin to keep warm and dry i dont see many wilsons up for sale where as shetlands are quite popular and closer to my budget.
  4. Bob, I've got a 2003 Suzuki DF50 and havn't came up against any problems similar to this and have been out in some very big waves and wake up here in the North Sea. I wouldn't imagine it's some kind of 'saftey' feature but more of a small fault or saftey cut out in the engine. I'm led to believe my engine has a computer built in to it which will cut it out if it 'scans' any problems with it. Could your oil be low and when the engine is on a tilt, the computer be cutting it out to protect it from damage or even if the props coming out of the water to save it from overheating. just guessing mind Marc
  5. Acitone which comes within the group of solvent cleaners will get both the adhesive off really really easily and will also clean up the fibreglass for you. Basicly its a very strong nail varnish remover and can be bought at chemists. Its fine used when poured on to a cloth and rubbed over the boat but don't let it sit on the fibre glass as it does melt some plastics if left.
  6. Hi, I'm looking for a light weight fishing boat, at a reasonable price, which is easy to launch for fishing in and around the harbour... Possible Orkney or aluminium type.... Need a reasonable engine also.... Anybody know of possibles...? Regards, grantB

  11. my dad mentioned it yesterday, one of the workers inb christchurch angling centre told him. should be quite reliable he charters mullet trips from there!
  12. looks like mudeford will be the only slip available from christchurch this winter as i've heard that wick is going to be shut most of it for repairs!
  13. if anyone is interestd the dogs wotsits of a bait for triggers is peeler crab they absolutly love it, used to catch a lot from the beach, weymouth end of chesil on a small wreck about 120 yds from shore. you can sometimes catch them also from under the lookout station at hengistbury head not all that far from shore!!!!
  14. alas, no photo but it was funny watching mums face as i pulled in about 5 minutes after mum gave me her rod...
  15. Try a google search on "sea me" not "see" By all account they are a decent piece of kit, Price is a bit steep though. http://www.sea-me.co.uk/

  19. definately at anchor, fishing with grips leads sometimes helps, two to three hook paternoster rigs good too. also try casting away from the boat this seems to catch more fish!!!
  20. sole fishing at barton is pretty good this time of year .about another 2-3 weeks and things really start happening, barton is a good place to go. about five hundred yards from shore and try and look for bottom contours, you should be able to find dips and humps. worm baits are best with smelly lug being a personal favourite.needs to be a night trip and preferably on a big ish tide coz they need the movement.done a copuple of trips with jimbob last year most we had in a night was thirteen to about two pounds also plenty of dabs and a nice plaice about 21/2lbs to top it off
  21. i reckon you could make a bloody fortune mate, next time i'm gonna get you to do all my baiting up then maybe i might catch something!!!!
  22. I think jimbob has to be the luckiest, jammiest, spawniest angler i've ever fished with. a bloody small eye on live mackerel!!!!!!. i think he must be very in touch with his feminine side contributing to unusually high amounts of pheromones on his hands or something!
  23. This one took ragworm. All the others went for mackerel as much as the ragworm. They do fight well though, very fun.
  24. Well I actually made it out Friday and the conditions turned out fantastic. Started with a couple of Mackerel to suppliment to bait and set to the fishing. I was aiming to fish the patches, but had to guess as we don't have GPS. The bottom profiler showed some features so we stopped there. About 5 mins later and my rod bent over. Got a smoothy about 4.5' long. Don't know the weight as we did not have scales, but it was the biggest fish I have ever caught (not been doing it long and certainly not as big as the one on the front!!) This followed by a whole day of normal dogfish one after the other. No other species apart from a large spider crab and a 10cm bass in the harbour!! Had a really fun day though.
