  1. Thanks for all the advice. Looks like I will have to revise where I fish in the harbour then. Is trolling with rapala's in front of the castle legal and effective ? What other species are targetable in the harbour? Was also hoping to try my fly rod early in the morning here! You mention the wash from big boats. Being a complete nautical novice. What precautions/avoiding actions should I take when one comes past? Is the race at the chain ferry probably too much?
  2. thanks for your advice last year (charlie) regarding fishing in the habour and outer patch. Steve an I only ventured out from parkstone once and on that occasion caught several bass on rapalas in the wytch channel and just out from the yacht club the biggest 2.5 lb. Tried the outer patch for bream but anchoring proved a problem (turning) any advice? Anyway since the I have been given a 12' bonwitco dinghy on a 5' beam. Its an old one with a cut away transom so it takes shortshafts up to 25 HP. I have aquired an old 20 merc which is being serviced at the moment. My original plan was to use it in the river for roach and pike fishing above wareham bridge and in the harbour when the weather is good). Does anyone have any advice on where I can use it safely (swanage bay?) Kimmeridge?. Out of the harbour? Obviously want to stay safe so better of asking the experienced! Many Thanks Ben
  3. thanks i had a great 1 and gt lots of money....................
  4. Has anyone else seen that access to the slipway at Kimmeridge is now restricted by a new gate ? A notice says "Restricted Access, Gate Locked at Dusk". I enquired in the little marine aquarium at the top of the slipway. They said that there had been a lot of thefts and vandlism, hence the decision by the estate to install the gate. They also said that typically the gate was opened at about 08:00 each morning. I asked who I might speak to about gaining a key to the gate. I was given the name of "Chichester's Land Agency" who are located in Wimborne, although the person I spoke to believed that keys were being very restricted. I am going to make some tentative enquiries on Tuesday. I say tentative, because I wonder whether a joint approach from our clubs ( I am a member of Poole Dolphins SAC) might be received better. Whilst I can understand the estates' frustration over the thefts and vandlism, I must say that I am somewhat dismayed at the time restrictions that this now places on early morning launches or late evening sessions from Kimmeridge(assuming that it is not possible to obtain a key). Does anyone else feel the same as I do ? Regards Neil Glover

  12. I have a few bits and bobs to get rid of at the clubs pitch at the forthcoming Boat Jumble in April. Included are a very large Danforth type anchor 78lbs (35Kgs) and a NEW wrap around cowling for a Mercury O/B - 1100 model but will fit most 6 cylinder models. Photos attached.
  13. A friend of mine living in Bedfordshire, is giving up his outboard engine repair business and moving to Spain to live. He is one of the "old school" and will be sorely missed by a lot of folks in this area, particularly me. He has kept my engines running for the past 30 years or more. He has a very large quantity of O.M.C. outboard engine spares to dispose of at silly prices. The spares are both electrical and mechanical, and are mostly for 1960's 1970's and 1980's models. He also has some miscellaneous casings, engine parts, and other parts for other makes of outboard. There are boxes and boxes of bits locked away in an old shipping container. Unfortunately there is no inventory, but the man himself knows more or less what he has, and whereabouts where it is. He is off to Spain on 4th March for about 4 weeks, and by June or July he hopes to be living in Spain permanently. So if any member needs any bits for an OMC engine, if you let me know your requirements, I will type them up and deliver them to him on his return, and I will forward his reply and price directly to you, (he doesn't believe in computers or mobile phones). Should anyone be interested in buying the entire stock, he is asking

  17. I use the Alderney Ring system to retrieve my anchor, and whilst this generally works well, getting the buff on the desired side of the boat when stating can be a pain. I understand that there is a system which involves looping a stainless steel triangle into the anchor line once the anchor has been deployed and set, which then jams in the Alderney ring and allows the buff to be set some distance up tide of the boat. This makes it much easier to get the buff where you want it when starting away on the retrieval and significantly reduces the risk of ending up with the anchor rope in the prop. I am looking for a specification so that I can get one of these triangles made up. Obviously the triangle needs to be bigger than your Alderney ring, but does it need to be a particular shape i.e. does it look more like a closed Y shape to better cause the anchor rope that is looped over it to lock in the bottom of the Y. If anyone is familiar with this system and could provide a simple diagram this would be great.
