  4. All teh best Simon, have a day day Martin
  5. Etecs on the face of it are very good but are also very new. The first models are I believe just approaching 3 years old. One engineer I have spoken to does not like the extended service intervals and its not because he looses out on work. Put it this way, a standard car service is set for either 12000 mile or yearly intervals why should an outboard motor be any different? Time will be the test of these engines. The same engineer dislikes 4st engines even though he sells them. His words to me when I enquired about upgrading Mavericks power source was "stay with new generation 2st engines for long term piece of mind" I have had my optimax for over 7 years and have not spent anything on it other than regular service and fuel filter changes and it still starts first or second turn of the key except for once when I accidentally knocked out the kill cord and one other time when the batetry was dead If I keep Maverick she will be getting a new 2st 6 cylinder beast then catch me if you can Martin
  6. Gordon If you decide to upgrade to a larger 2st outboard don't forget to look at the Mariner and Mercury Optimax range......you'll need one if you want to keep up with Maverick, fuel economy isn't so bad either Martin
  7. Gordon The return slip is your part of the entry form which would have been given back to you or whoever signed in for you at the registration. We would have needed this if you weighed in a fish as proof of entry into the competition. This is clearly stated in the rules a copy of which you would/should have received at the registration. Anyways never mind you wouldnt have been in the prizes, just means you will remain unfamous like me Martin

  16. Terry Good to meet you if only breifly and glad you enjoyed your sight seeing excusion It might make you feel a little better re the poor fishing result that we all struggled a little in the large tides. Should be no trouble or excuses next week though as the tides are considerably smaller. See you Sunday Martin
  17. Dean and I ventured out today. We met up with the crew of Nipper and scrounged a hot mug of coffee of Baiter whilst they were waiting for our friends from Kent. We then steamed straight out to our favoured mark somewhere on the blue briny Set the pick in and started fishing the first of the ebb. Bites were instantaneous with around half a dozen eels to 20lb and 4 bass to 41/4lb coming in quick succession. Tides were quite large and as the ebb got stronger so bites slowed up. We then had a visit from the crew of Palomine (Andy and Jack) who anchored not to far from us. You may of heard of their reputation as fish scare mongers, well I can confirm its true No sooner had their lines hit the water all forms of sea life seemed to vanish We had 1 small conger during the next 4 hours Thankfully Palomine decided to call it an early day and departed around 3ish and as if by magic we started getting a few bites culminating in a nice 30lb Conger for Dean Was it the Paolmine effect or could it just have been the tide had eased Another nice day to be afloat, that
