  5. I hope not my battery box is built into the boat and is made of....GRP
  6. Miss sb beware copyright laws, anyone can read the forum
  7. Kam I know you have a takeaway but I hope your not cooking your batteries If the liquid fizzled then it probably is battery acid. Acid will not eat plastic but will clean your drive nicely. Did you leave your batteries on charge and if so was the charger left on fast charge? have you had a short? have you recently topped up your fluid level? I cant think what else would have caused your battery to spill its contents. Anyone else got any thoughts on this one. By the way you have been quiet lately you been on your hols or something? Martin
  8. James I am well pleased for you, glad you finally found what you wanted. Look forward to seeing and taking a few pictures of Dawn Raider on the water Martin
  9. Newboy They are and they arn't A true inboard has an engine inside the boat with a shaft terminating under the boat with a prop. All true inboards have a keel of some description that helps to protect the prop. Benefits of this is easy maintenance and usually good fuel economy. Downside is the prop is out of the way and not very accessible and manoeuvrability of the boat is not good at slow speeds An outdrive has the engine inboard of the boat at the rear and is connected through the transom to an outdrive or leg which is a little like an outboard. Benefits are easy access to the engine, good manoeuvrability. Down side is leg can get in the way of fishing (same as outboards really) cost of maintaining the engine and leg Probably loads more pros and cons and both have there followers Martin
  10. Hi Tony For rigs and tackle talk "The Sea Anglers Guide to Bait and Rigs" by Mel Russ is a good book with straight forward explanations and pics. On the video front you could try "The Complete Guide To Offshore Boat Fishing With Bob Cox" Over time you will glean loads of information from members including marks and technique tips. We could post lots of options here but you would be better either posting specific questions or asking at a club meeting. If you do decide to buy books or videos please use the link to Amazon at the top of the page. The club benefits from a small commision on all sales through that link Martin
  11. Nice one Tony glad she sold, didnt take long at all. I have edited your for sale board and removed your tel Nos Martin
  12. Hi Sarah Welcome to the best small boat angling club Feel free to join in Martin
  13. Hi Wedger Firstly welcome to the forum. See you have a Wilson flyer, a very good stable fishing platform if ever there was one. I used to have a Pilot 17 that is a very similar boat to the Wilson and had loadsa fun on it. Leeward 18 hum.... I looked at and wanted one of those when they were first produced. Very workmanlike and on a calm (very) calm day with a 120hp diesel inboard should fly for a guess about 30knts or possibly a little more. You will probably find the ride to be very hard, as all boats with no pointed ends tend to bash through rather than cut through the water. On the plus side with the beam being almost the same throughout its length it should provide a stable platform to fish from. To be fair I haven't been out on one, was tempted though and nearly bit the bullet until I saw the Warrior 195, which I finally bought. The Warrior has a pointed end and does cut through the water but unfortunately are no longer made. I like Adam fancy the Pirate 21 formerly known as the Souter 21. Nice deep vee hull that will give plenty of economic speed and yet sits nicely on the water. If I had the cash I would probably indulge myself. Regarding pontoon costs.. Up until this year I kept me Warrior on a pontoon berth. I started to trail my boat again, the reason being the cost to keep her afloat went over 2K, from my point of view just a bit to much. When you take into account antifouling, new anodes every year plus the other usual expenses related to a boat living on water it was nearer 2.5K I am sure you will get many varying views that may only serve to confuse you, but hopefully you can cherry pick the ideas and make a decision that suits you Good luck Martin
  14. A little piccy
  15. Do we know how old the photo is Paul? Could make a big difference as the bar apparently shifts around alot Martin

  17. Nice to see some of you managed to get out whilst I was running errands, mostly fools I might add. Rich I have never considered the element within the club that do not own boat as not having experience in handling boats. This I feel is something that needs addressing as the idea of having crew is that of safety. If the crew cannot manage the boat profficiently then they could be a danger instead of a help especially in the recovery of man overboard. Any member of the club who is not a boat owner that needs some tuition is welcome to come out on Maverick when space allows and learn some of the points in running a boat. Martin
  18. Time for bed You don't know what you have missed young man Martin

  23. Mike and Rose Take a look at the RNLI training console there is a section referring to lights on that http://www.lifeboats.org.uk/training/launch.asp# Martin
  24. Mike & Rose A vessel under 7 metres needs to have a white alround light plus a port and starboard light. If the steaming light and the port/starboard lights are switched seperately then your steaming light can also be used as your anchor light Hope that helps
  25. Hi all I have now set up the permissions for the club members only section of the forum so that those with the status of club member can enter without the need for a password. Guests cannot see any of the areas set aside for club members only. This forum gets cleverererer by the day Paul, could you just check I have set it up correctly Cheers Martin
