  8. James Dont forget to let me know times etc for the presentation and if I could come up with you (car, train, bike, roller boots or whatever) that would be good. Martin
  9. Kam I have just spoken to Stuart the marine electrician who advertises on our site and he is of the opinion that 2 85ah batteries are fine for a small fishing boat such as ours. If you are having problems it will probably be one of two things 1. dead battery or batteries or 2. alternator not charging your bats properly. He also suggests that you use both batteries to start the engine then run on one battery for the day (as explained earlier) so you have a fully charged unit just in case of problems.
  10. I'd go along with that Paul All I have ever used on my boats is marine/leisure bats and as I have aleady said have never failed to see the day through, that is until they are past there sell by date then of course they do not hold a charge and you can end up in trouble Martin
  11. Excellent news James All you need now is to find a nice new shiny piece of plastic to go with that nice new engine you won! Martin

  15. When lowering your anchor if you have a turn or two around your anchor point (cleat or bollard) you will have some sort of control. Trying to lower an anchor by hand when the tide is going full bore is no fun as I have found out after many blisters. Its just a small thing but it makes life so much easier. Martin
  16. Kam Sorry to hear about your misadventure but glad you managed to deal with the situation and make it back safely. Our sport (fishing from small boats) is acknowledged as one of the most hazardous hobbies/pastimes to take part in. We all have had experiences we would rather forget, we mustn
  17. Paul To see if you can launch at mudeford you will have to check with Andy at the shop. Personally I would have thought the time you use motoring around to mudeford and then returning to poole for the weigh in (assuming you caught ought) would negate any percieved advantages Martin
  18. Kam Those of us that went on the recent sea survival course learnt that you can purchase personal flare packs that are very small and either come in or can be put in a waterproof container and kept on your person . This meens that if you were to go into the water you would have some way of attracting attention. You can also get water proof bags for handheld vhf's and phones Martin

  20. Found the words to the out of town theme: Say what you will The countryside is still The only place that I could settle down Troubles there are so much rarer Out of town Spring starts to spring Robins start to sing And Mother Nature wears her newest gown What I'd give once more to live right Out of town Up there the sun Is a big yellow duster Polishing a clear, blue sky With bright fluffy clouds in a cluster Hanging on the line to dry Spring starts to spring Robins start to sing And Mother Nature wears her newest gown What I'd give once more to live right Out of town Ah memories, they don't make them like that anymore (thank god say my kids) Martin

  22. Well what a blowy and cold day. Not at all pleasant but we still managed a good turn out, I counted 11 club boats and 23 members fished. The fishing was very slow with most boats going up the Wareham channel (us included) to fish the mudflats of Holton Mere or thereabouts. We all have our little favoured spots (except me, never very successful with flounders) Any way in the morning not a lot happening with little chat on the radio, either they were keeping their cards close to their chest or it was exceptionally slow. With no bites on our boat in the first three hours we decided to make a move down the channel and found a mark near to Patchins point. The second run up started and it seemed as though a switch had been flicked and a few fish started to come aboard. We ended up with 4 flounders on Maverick, 3 small ones for Bob and I had one of 2lb. Dean couldn

That must prove at least that fish are not put off by it Martin
  25. Nice one Alun Whiting we caught on weds were also coughing up sprats. Could the lack of cod be because they are stuffed full of sprats and not hungry enough to eat squid that originates from california? Martin
