  6. Dean and I went a little earlier than the Wishin Crew with us only having 30-40' vis through the harbour and swash channel. It was the first time we had used the plotter and radar on Madness in anger but all went well, even better when Steve on True Blue came blasting by so I decided to piggyback a ride out into open waters. Sent Steve a text explaining what I was doing and he was fine with us doing that, what a great friend he is to the club and it's members. Our day was planned to be a cod only day but as usual the target species for us didn't want to play. We did however find a snake pit where we teased out over 20 eels up to 30lb with the average being in the 15-20lb range. Boy those things tug back. Also had spotted and thornback rays pout the ever present dogs and other bits. As the weather was so nice we decided to come home helming from the flybridge which was lovely going with the wind at a little over 20 knots but when we turned to come up the swash and into the harbour the wind chill factor got us. All in all a great day to be afloat (I even donned my sun hat and shades ) with enough entertainment to keep us happy Roll on the cod comp, I'm sure to lose but if the weather is half as good as it was today I don't care
  7. As Trevor says most policies cover uk waters to 12 miles or whatever your particular policy states offshore and include Breast to River Elbe but not necessarily cover the waters you need to cross to get there. Sounds silly but the way some are worded could restrict a channel passage so just get that clarified
  8. Happy birthday Steve have a good weekend
  9. Was going to put a big long post about data protection but decided against that. Mark's post is not pointless only drawing topical attention to the fact that any organisation no matter how large or small can be hacked as can your or my email contacts. Talking of email contacts I am currently receiving emails from 2 persons which have malicious intent and both the alleged senders have no idea how it's happening. We must all make our own judgement and be careful where we place our information. BTW I think the shark trust do a good job so if I remember I will report my catches but will be lean with information provided
  10. Even us recovering workaholics need time dodging work

  12. The Madness crew are considering a trip out on Sunday. Just Dean and I with space for 1 other. Will make final decision tomorrow night. If you're interested in joining us shout in the normal manner
  13. I would agree with Stuie re the anchor warp and chain length. You will not be able to anchor in anything much deeper than 50' with what you have. I suggest min 30' chain attached to 150 metres min for fishing in our area. 12mm warp will be fine as will 8mm chain. Regards anch a 10 kilo Bruce type or a 6 kilo Delta type anchor would be my choice.

  21. We left Cobbs for the 8:30 bridge and spotted a few other likely candidates sneaking out to find some Rays. The wind was stronger than expected pushing a four and as the morning went by so the wind against tide built the sea up to a sloppy mess. As the tide eased the sea state improved then when the tide changed the wind dropped right off leaving us with a reasonable beautiful sunny afternoon Our day was a day of 2 halves. We headed out to a bank that has thrown up various ray along with other species in the past. The hook was set and first drop I was into a bream of 3lb 3oz. That was followed by a small blonde ray to Dean of around 7.5lb we had four or five more blondes until the tide eased. Largest went to me at 14.8oz with deans largest being 11lb 8oz. As well as the blondes we had 2 decent Bream pollock and pout. Funny thing is that pm after the tide had ease we never had a bite. It was great to be out and although not manic on the fishing front I thoroughly enjoyed the day and am now fired up and can't wait to our next trip out.
