Mike, I hope members of the club don't think of the RNLI as the 'free' AA of the sea! I'd hope the education and knowledge the club spreads means that members understand prevention better than cure and to grasp the gravity and responsibility a skipper has going out on the water.

I think it is about the suitability of having an offshore boat in the harbour. The RNLI have had some backlash over this decision. I doubt it was rushed in to and analysis if the history of the type of rescues was taken in to consideration. With the Swanage boat now being faster and launched from a ramp for quicker launch time, I expect it makes sense. They are in a no win situation where people complain the amount they spend and now they try to save, same story.
