Adam DO NOT FOGET TO FIT A FUSE I use a 15amp fuse in the main feed (Red wire) which comes off the 2nd battery terminal and goes to the main +ve bus bar where all other take off points are made for other functions, plotter, gps, lights, bilge pump etc. Bought my fuse set up from Halford's in the radio spares section. In my case I do not charge the second battery from the engine but use it just to supply everything else EXCEPT to start the engine. You should of course have a seperate fuse to every function, normally about 3 amps. If you are going to use your switcher for charging from the engine, you will have an additional supply feed (connection) to run all the equipment. Put a fuse in this line to make sure that if you get a short circuit it does not start a fire Regarding size of wire, suggest you use same size cable as car starter cable because if you use the second battery to start the engine the current draw (amps) can be very high (60+amps in cold weather on a cold engine) I hope I have not confused you too much. I have seen some bad electrics in boats and I shudder to think what would happen if some water got mixed around with the wiring. Better to fit lots of fuses or trip switches than have a wiring harness fire when out at sea! You then have to think about what sort of fire exstinguisher you have on board to cover electrical fires! Sorry to be a bit of a downer but safety is paramount Codfather

Thanks all for your responses, I would be interested in Adam's fuel useage as he has the same size boat but a smaller engine I think (50hp) It will be interesting to see how it compares. By the amount of usage already I should think the engine hours have gone up considerably. It will be nice to add some hours to my outfit as it has just stood on the drive for over a month Still next week-end at least two full days and maybe a bit extra on Monday as well Cod

Hi all I have been keeping track of trip milage, engine hours run and fuel used with my Mariner 60hp four stoke since buying the boat. I seem to be using 0.92 ltrs/mile average This is using a mixture of flat out to trolling running in a mixture of sea states with and against tides. Most of my trips are not very long on average 20 miles per trip. Does this seem good/bad/average? You all seem to get out a lot and was wondering how you others compaired? Coddy

Hi Rich I am not in any dispute but unless my eyesight is getting worse, which could well be, as I seem to miss girls in short skirts and fish bites I did not see any mention of it in the users handbook. Thought I would pass on the information I was given. Cod

Hi If anyone has a Mariner/Mercury outboard should replace the water pump impellor every 2 years if you do not want to void any possible warranty claim. I know that the engines come with a 2 year warranty but any possible claim after this date may be affected. First service is after 20hrs then every 100hrs or each season. 4 strokes require the cam belt replaced every 500hrs or 5yrs to prevent failure in use. I found this out from a dealer at the week-end. The user manual does not provide this information or at least I did not see it. Thought it might help anyone with one of these engines. Regards Cod

Hi We were house hunting all last week-end Last house we looked at seemed almost right ......... ALMOST!!!!! In an area called Marley??? between Poole and Winbourne I think Weather was great and went to Weymouth saw sea conditions and the outlaws said "why didn't you bring your boat down" As if the FPO would allow that!!!!! Still I have the whole of the Bank Holiday down at Hayling at the IAC Fish In so that should be good as I am getting withdrawl symptoms as it has been so long since I have been out on the boat. Still we have to sell our house before we can consider buying so it just a waiting game Looking forward to a few trip outs sometime this year however. Regards Cod

Hi Adam Just a thought that if you try to charge both batteries at the same time you may get electrical interferance which can upset your GPS/plotter. Worth being in mind, I always use a deep cycle battery just for electronics and charge at home. Codfather

Hi all I have had a response from Warrior as follows Quote ideally the rollers should be just under the transom.Your moving the boat and reducing the nose wieght will not unduly affect the hull unless you are driving on very bumpy roads. You may be better looking for rear spring assisters for your car.Regards Paul Haynes. Hope that helps anyone Regards Codfather

Will do My trailer is from Warrior too so it will be interesting what they say Regards Cod
-
That explains my problem as well Thanks Cod
-
Thanks guys I did not think about moving the axle and the transom is now overhanging the back of the trailer by 12" (just gone to check it) I was a bit concerned that the very front rollers do not seem to carry any of the weight and are free to turn The towing beam I think is at its maximum length and I dont think I have anything heavy in the cuddy. The anchor and warp are in a self contained box in the middle over the axle, the fuel tanks are at the back. The only heavy items are the twin batteries which are kept in the console locker. I view of what has been said I might email Warrior and seek their advice. Thanks again Cod

Hi Use a set of bathroom scales with a piece of wood inside trailer hitch and resting on the scales. Unscrew the jockey wheel until the front of the trailer is resting on the wood which is pushing on the scales. Read the weight shown (1kg = 2.2lbs) (14lbs = 1 stone) Seems most cars will accept max of 75kgs on towball Regards Codfather

Yes that was what I was thinking about Daft idea I know Codfather

Hi Adam Check out my web site links page for Keyline Graphix http://fishing_boats.tripod.com/ I used them and found them great and very helpful Their web is www.keylinegrapix.co.uk Regards Codfather

I know it might seem daft Does the aerial have any effect, what I mean is if you turn it will it give a differant comapss reading. Just a thought that came to me Better go back to sleep I know Codfather

Hi all When I was towing my boat I thought I was getting weak as I could hardly lift the tow hitch coupling on the trailer. I thought I better check the weight on the tow ball and used the FPO's scales, so they must lie , and found I had nearly 19 stone or 120kgs on the hitch!! I have now moved the boat backwards on the trailer to just under 75kgs, my cars max load. My point is when was the last time you checked your nose weight? Adam, I would be interested in how you got on with your Warrior, did it come with a Roller Coaster 3 trailer? If so does the front rollers (the large ones) still touch the hull? Regards Codfather

Hi Adam Suggest you check that they are all on Magnetic or True North I too have noticed a differance from the compass and my plotter and GPS I also noticed that I am getting some electro-magnetic deflection (big word for me ) when I switch the units all on albeit very small, so I am looking to see where else to fit the compass but running out of room Regards Codfather

Yep They go through puddles fast and soak you to the skin! Codfather

Hi all Dave Steele, whom I bought my Warrior from, has sent me an email to say he has 2 x Warrior 165's for sale. Both are in mint condition and come with full electronics. He did not say any prices but I know that he is an honest guy and does not rip off anyone and his guarantee is that if you do not like the boat he will buy it back from you at the price you bought it! Anyone interested give him a call on 01704578049 He is based in Lancashire. Thought it might help someone but he does sell boats quickly so you may need to be quick. Regards Codfather
