Congrats on the new boat Don't want to put a downer on your purchase but if you get the chance I would upgrade the outboard to 115hp as you might find the 90 may work hard to keep her going well. Keep the storage weight down and I am sure she will be fine Dave

As a thought have you thought about a sliding patio door? Being able to see through would help with blind spots and having it open allows fresh air to reduce any sea sickness feeling When it is cold & wet you can allways close the door to keep warm & dry I am sure you could pick up a second hand one or similar. Alan kindly invited me out on Saturday looking for Plaice & Triggers, we must have been in the right area as nearly half the charter fleet were in the same place but we could not connect up with anything! Went out a bit deeper and found the kennel club but nothing else so came back inshore and tried again. Managed a few scad, gurnards and a single mackerel but nothing else. Meet and had a chat with Court Jester who seemed to have had a good day and managed catch our target species plus a coddling Alan posed to get a few photo's of his super new boat and we then headed in, however we missed the tide and had to wait a bit until enough water had filled the harbour to get the boat back to Parkstone. Thanks for the trip Alan and sorry we could not get some more species for your list. Dave

If he has attended sailing lesons then I would say the school he went to failed miserably I hate too many regulations but it is time that those who wish to run/drive/sail a boat on the water must pass a competency standard before being allowed out on their own. Dave

So have I, thanks for the heads up Dave

Hi Paul again Had another thought, might be worth getting a compression test done. There was a problem with some Mercury/Mariner engines where the head gasket restricted water through the engine. I had this problem on my Mariner engine on Sammy, the Warrior 165, it turns out that it was a common problem. Just maybe the head gasket is leaking between the seals under the head/gearbox faces. Just a thought Dave

Hi Paul Have a look at the fuel pump diaphragm as it might have an air leak as it heats up, also that the fuel line &/or prime bulb is ok, don't forget the one way valve in the primer. if none of the above I would suggest a strip down and clean the carbs & jets as it seems to be a fuel issue. Just had another thought, check the fuel pick up pipe is not kinked in the tank Dave

Too much dreaming and not knowing what to do if it came true!

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet.. "How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "£150!" she cried, "£150 just to tell me my duck is dead!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been £20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now £150."

Attached is a new Newsletter issued by Southern IFCA This is the first for IFCA so as we get more so it will be posted here. I have also invited a couple of the staff of Southern IFCA to come along to one of our club nights to chat about what they are doing and the results they have been having in bring individuals to court who fish illegally in what ever form that may take. They have had some good results and they have also got another new fast boat so they can carry out checks. Dave Southern IFCA Newsletter - Issue 1.pdf

Neal, Would have loved to join in but my eldest son decided to get married on Saturday 21st so I don't think I will be in a fit state for fishing and I suspect the FPO would go ape! Dave

Hi Nick welcome to the club I am the Safety Officer of the club so if you need any RYA training courses let me know as I can arrange special prices for club members. As also been said previously I have posted a list of general areas to help new members or those new to the area where you could try spots when looking for fish. You might have read in other posts that a trawler has recently been sweeping the bay so I suspect the area will be devoid of fish for a while! :-( I also have a Shetland 535 but is overdue for a trip out as it has not seen the water for 18mths apart from rain! Dave

Err I think it was a faulty starter motor as described in the OP

Sorry to hear of your problem but good to read that you managed to get back under your own power. As you say safety can never be under-rated. Dave

The tender was stolen between 1900 on Wed 17th and 10.00 Sat 20th. from the bank opposite the Priory. It is a Grey hull with Green gunwale with a white rubber inset. It was marked on the transom B28. It was not seen to go past RYC CCTv so we must assume it is upriver or removed by road.

Scott Lindsay found guilty at court last week of breaking into a boat at Parkstone Yacht Club moorings last September. He was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months. That means if he is found guilty of another similar offence in next 12 months, he should automatically get a 12 week prison sentence plus sentence for new offence. Only a matter of time I suspect. Please keep a look out for a white Mercedes Minibus with tinted windows index GOP 650 (foreign plate) seen in suspicious circumstances near boats on trailers at Christchurch on 20th July. The van contained 3 males, believed foreign nationals and when challenged by member of public they left. If seen please ring 999 (if believed crime in action) or 101 Regards Tristan Oliver Marine Section Poole
