  1. Hi Dan Is the engine 2 or 3 cylinders? If oil is coming out of the prop, is it from the exhaust (centre) of the the prop or around the side? If autolube and it's oil out from the exhaust I suspect you may have an oil pump problem which is why it wont start, I suspect that the plugs would be covered in the oil. You can run the engine if you empty the oil tank and mix the oil with the petrol, normal mix is 50:1 but some run on 100:1, would need serial number/year to confirm. Give me a call if you need a hand Dave
  2. Unlucky Charlie, having been in a similar position once before I know how it feels! Glad every thing worked out safely and Dave was close by to lend a hand. Displacement speed can be a tad slow Dave

    Sheared Studs

    Hi Mike Cost me
  6. Hi all As some of you know, I have been rebuilding a Yamaha 40HP 2-stroke outboard for some time. During the dismantling I sheared a number of bolts due to corrosion and salt build up. Now stainless steel bolts and aluminium do not go well together and after a number of years they tend to corrode. The steering clamp on my outboard had a broken bolt left in the housing and I tried to drill out the broken part but was not successful and even Brian, of Megabyte fame, could not get this out. I went to a friendly engineering company to see if they could help and they suggested I try Multispark. Not knowing about this process I went along and the guys there explained they can spark erode the old broken bolt out of the hole without damage to the thread. 2 hours later I collected the part and it was if there had never been a broken bolt in the hole. All I had to do was run a tap down the thread to make sure it was clean and that was it! They did advise me that should it happen again, DO NOT try to drill it out as leaving as is makes it easier for them to remove. If you have a similar problem I can recommend these guys at: Multispark Erosion Ltd, Dawkins Business Centre, Dawkins Road, Hamworthy BH15 4JY Tele 01202 668989 Email dave@multispark.co.uk Contact Dave Sheldon Dave

What a great fish and pictures and a PB as well Well done Lofty Dave
  11. Interesting that the diver has seen "common skate" in the area. Most people would have said that they are extinct in the area, I suspect he means he has seen skate which are common to the area. If there are common skate in the area that would be wonderful, and I would love to be able to catch and release another 200lb fish! Dave
  12. We need a bigger boat! Dave
  13. For those interested, Finding Sanctuary have sent their final draft report in on the 1st June 2011 A copy of this report can be found here http://www.finding-sanctuary.org/page/news/420 then clink on a link which will download a PDF file of all 500+ pages. The main area of interest for us is in the Club waters and this is from page 258 onwards. This covers Poole Rocks, Studland Bay Kimmerage down to South Portland. From what I quickly scanned, it seems all recreational anglers will be allowed to continue their activities as long as nothing impedes the conservation proposal. In other words we need to be aware of any possible damage to both the seabed and marine creatures. I am sure someone like Peter, our Conservation Officer, will have a browse and give a more detailed report than I but from my short scan I don't think we have too much to worry about with these proposals at the moment. As I say I am sure those with more knowledge than I will jump up and say I got it wrong if I have. Dave

Hi Martin Do be careful when using the Alderney anchor lifting system especialy if you are on your own or with crew who have do not have experiance of this. If you need a hand give me a call and I am sure we can meet up very soon. Mobile 07581 717211 Try it out in calm waters first away from boats and buoys, the harbour is a good place to start. Dave
  18. You have to feel for this guy See here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13...s-namesake.html There are a number of safety issues I am sure, one of which he is not wearing a life-jacket. Must have been a nasty experiance however. Dave

    PC Planner

Hi Graham First you will need a blank user card, then using the PC planner you will be able to transfer waypoints from the PC to the plotter or the other way around. The planner will allow you to format the blank card so it can be used to store the format C-Map use. To take waypoints, routes etc from the plotter you will need to Export them to the user card, similarly from the PC you need to transfer them to the user card then insert the card in the plotter and Import them to the plotters memory. Do not try to format the card with the maps on it as it will wipe them off for good! Dave
  20. Thanks Paul As you may know I use BT too and looking through reports it maybe that my router may be a bit long in the tooth and not up to more advanced signals. As I am ADSL broadband user it seems these problems may be more pronounced. Dave
  21. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE Hope you have a great day and get a hole in one, catch the largest trout on a fly and bring back a PB Mr Spiky! If you can manage all of this on the same day you deserve a BIG drink Dave
  22. Hi Lofty Well done in offering assistance and keeping an eye out for them. Good to see the rib skipper helping out as well. Quote:- I always give a little wave to let passing boats know im in my comfort zone. I dont know about other craft but on a yak a patting your head gesture means come to me I was not aware of this signal, will now keep a watchful eye on hand signals from yak owners, apart from the Victory sign! Dave

  25. If anyone uses IE8 or earlier and has Windows Vista and is thinking of upgrading to IE9 DONT is has slowed my internet web pages to a crawl and sometimes says no connection! It seems it is becoming a known problem so why hasn't microsoft sorted it out? I have now got to find a way of removing IE9 and reloading IE8 without loosing all my data. I have read that IE9 works well with WIndows 7 but I am not going to keep buying upgrades just to keep my PC working. Dave
