    Outboard

It may not be suitable but I have been overhauling my Seagull outboard and willing to bring it along to a club meeting before I reassemble completley and go through various components if anyone is interested. Alternativly if anyone has an old outboard I am quite happy to strip it down and use that. Dave

  10. Interesting thread this. I use International Crusier Uno in Navy colour and seems to work well for 12mths. On the trim tabs I used Trilux and whilst I dd not prime the tabs it has stayed on fairly well will only a little growth. I have to repaint the leg each year and again I use Trilux and so far has worked well apart from the slime but does brush off easily. I have some prop sheald to try this year but needs to have the prop warm before coating it then when first coat done then slight warm again to allow it to "soak" into the metal and then given a second coat, supposed to be good for a minimum of 6mths. I too have been advised to use eroding antifoul but mainly for the the ease of replacing/repainting each year. Have a look on Jotun's web site http://www.shepherdmarine.com/index.php as many use this range of products to good effect. Dave
  11. Hi Gary Welcome to to the best club on the South Coast Before I moved down South I used to live near Bedford so I know how far the sea is. I used to belong to the Bedford Sea Angling Club until it folded due to lack of members. We use to fish from Felixstowe so if you get a chance it makes a good option for trying for differant species. Regards trailer launching have you had a look at Hythe slip to the West of Southampton? It is a nice slip can be tide dependant but can give good access to the Southampton/Solent waters. Worth looking at this site http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk/ to get some idea of other slipways. Local to Poole, Baiter slip is the only public slip worth talking about and even that is poor due to its shallow angle of ramp and the number of numpties that use it! If you pay you can use Cobbs Quay or Rockley both have a bit of a run to the harbour entrance. Christchurch/Mudeford slips are ok at certain states of tide but many have damaged props on the bar at the entrance, best to wait until the spring when they replace the entrance buoys unless you go with a local who knows the current state of sand bars! Where ever you launch do make sure you are safe as many places around this area can turn nasty quickly and having somewhere to run in an emergency is important. Dave

    New Year Message

Dear Friends and Colleagues At the start of this New Year I wanted to thank you for the emails you have forwarded over the past year. I must send a big thank you to whoever sent me the one about rat crap in the glue on envelopes, because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope that needs sealing. Also, I now have to wipe the top of every can I open for the same reason. I no longer have any savings because I gave it all to a sick girl who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time. But that will change once I receive the
  13. Hi Alan Without sounding picky, I have read a number of people have a windlass, including me, and they all say they can deploy the warp quickly with a recovery buoy attached. Now I would have to admit that I am unable to do that as the warp comes up from the anchor locker, which is accessed from inside the cabin, and has a large chain link attached to prevent the warp, in the unlikly event, of all the warp being released. I am interested how you can have the warp going through the windlass and having a buoy attached as this would be my ideal set up but can not see how it is done. Any help on how to do this would be great Dave

    Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Gordon Hope you had a good one and did not work too hard Must have earned some more brownie points by now! Dave
  15. Adam Reason for 14mm warp is that is the minimum size my windlass will work with! Dave
  16. Hi Dave Ref above I think you may recall the weather was cr**p due this period On Lady C we have 8mm chain the length of the boat (21ft) onto 14mm warp. If we are moored on sand I will windlass the anchor in if not going to be deployed again otherwise I will Alderney it out and recover over the cockpit side ready for deployment when we reach the next mark. Dropping the anchor in a lump of anchor & chain can cause tangles and will not set the anchor correctly. (been there and done it!) Also snatching the warp before the it reaches the bottom or having not enough warp out will often break the cable ties. Dave

  18. Official Announcement: The government today announced that it is changing its emblem from a Union Jack to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed. Damn, it just doesn't get more accurate than that!
  19. Hi Kev Welcome to the clubs forum. We have all started at sometime with boats, some have gone on to bigger and better craft others have stayed small and some have even gone to paddle power i.e. kyaks! Whatever your budget do allow enough for safety equipement as the sea is not very forgiving. There is plenty of advise within the club and if you join the club you will have an oppertunity to attend safety course organised by the club. Whilst looking for a boat, I would suggest you get to crew on as many boats as you can so you can see yourself what works for you and if you like the idea of owning and running your own craft. If you want ideas or thoughts about craft have a look at my website, there is a link in my signature. Take the plunge and jump in and you will find that work is just a means of paying for your fishing! Dave
  20. If you belive the Met Office forecast it may be a little rough for small craft: As from Midnight Saturday 26th Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis - Strong winds are forecast 24 hour forecast: Southwest veering west 5 to 7, decreasing 4 later. Rough becoming moderate. Squally showers then fair. Good. Outlook: West 3 or 4, becoming variable for a time, then east or southeast 4 or 5 later. Slight or moderate. Fair. Good. Dave
  21. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Paul Hope you have a great day and manage to get out fishing to catch another fat belly! Have a great day with a few drinks Dave

    Xmas

HAPPY CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR to all club members. May 2010 put a good bend in your rods and the weather allows us out to play more than last year. Have a great safe time. Dave
  23. Some great photo's Zippy, can even see my boat moored up. If I could of entered the comp I would not have even had to start the engine! Well done to Alun and those who managed to wangle some flounder out of the harbour. Dave
  24. Hi all I went out today (Saturday) with my son Matthew and cruised up the harbour, got half way up the swash and had to slow down from 16kts to 10 ending up at 6! Plowed our way out to the spoils ground and saw a number of boats out at various places but Matt is not a too good sailor and I don't enjoy being thrown around for the sake of it. So I turned around and headed back into the harbour, seems I was not alone in my thoughts as we saw a number of boats returning. The problem for me was the wave period, depth of swell and travelling broadside to it all. The boat did get a FULL washdown and we had waves chasing us down the swash as well as a bit of surfing! All the while the boat was broadside to the swell, interesting times. Got into the harbour and back to nice calm water Tied up to a buoy but as I only had squid and macky with me we did not expect to catch anything whilst we had lunch in the sunshine, so I was not disapointed! The cabin kept the Easterly wind off us until the tide turned then it was time to move so we had a run up the harbour to the wareham channel and then back, so peaceful. Back in to top up the tanks and an early moor up. I could not have made Sunday's run even if it was on and did not fancy it in that wind and swell. Dave
  25. Hi Adam Good call as was out today and got as far as the spoils and turned around and came back in, too lumpy for me! Dave
