Bill and I took Lady C out for a spin today. After waiting for the guy to turn up to fill up with fuel, we got away at about 10.30am and headed to Swanage Bay. To say the sea state was interesting would be an understatement. Having reached our mark, we decided that it was not worth being tossed around so headed into the bay and calmer water. Unfortunately the fish had other ideas and did not want to come out to play so after an hour or so we headed out of the bay and saw a number of boats anchored off Ballards Down, we decided to join them. Once the anchor was down and we settled into the tide, it soon became obvious that laying beam on to the waves was going to be uncomfortable. I am sure the wave heights were in excess of 8ft as when in the trough I could not see the horizon! Fishing however, started as soon as the baits went down. I was soon into double hits of Black Bream then Bill was into them as well. In the end we both must have had 15 - 20 each, most went back apart from 3 which were kept for the pot. I was just saying to Bill that we needed a doggie to add to the species list for the boat and that I was surprised we had not had one this year yet, then by magic one jumped onto my line and in came Lady C's first doggie! We sat out the lumpyness and when the tide turned the wind decreased and the smoothed out but by the time we had turned fully the wind started to get up again and so did the swells. So we decided to head back in, had a drift in the Swash and then in Poole harbour for some flatties or anything but nothing showed so went back to the mooring and came home. Still suffering from land motion as I write this. Coddy

Gordon, Just to keep you up todate on that side of the Island, I am off that side for the Bank Holiday on my annual species hunt with the IAC, meeting up with a group like minded friends from all over the UK. Bill and I will be sailing Lady C around there ( ) and will report back on how we get on. Many of us will be targetting the smoothys and tope given half a chance as well as any rays that turn up quite regularly. Coddy

Like the way Bob has his hand on the wallet! Boat looks great, not too keen on the choice of windscreen however. Have fun building and like the idea that Adam is off for a hoilday so it will be all done when he returns Coddy

Shark to fisherman "You wait until my Dad heres about me, then you will will be in trouble!" or Fisherman to fisherman "How big was your boat?" Coddy

Glen Would recommend you anchor at Poole Patch and not drift, bream like a semi static bait in a good tide. You may also need some ground bait to help bring the fish to you. Good luck next time. Coddy

Bill and I decided to go out on Lady C this Saturday as it looked the best day. Well I got the tide timings wrong and had to wait for the tide to float her on the moorings. :-( The next problem occurred when we tried to cast off, as someone had moored their boat too close to mine just in front. Tried to go astern but got the mooring anchor chain wrapped around the prop!!!!!! I then spent the next hour freeing this off! Fortunately I did very little damage to the prop or leg (phew) Anyway we eventually got away and head out to the local car park to see if we could get amongst the bream. It seemed from the moment my rod went in I was getting bites and fish, on Bills side of the boat they were not too plentiful. Anyway Bill got amongst the fish as well and we soon reeling in the bream going up to about 2.5lbs, in all we must have had 25+ between us. I also managed to pull in 4 mackerel so another species for Lady C. As the tide dropped so did the bites so we decided to move close in to Bournemouth beach. Blow me if I didn't go and get a Goby and a baby Tub gurnard. Just to confirm the species of Goby here are some pictures http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/Coddy_02/0003-1.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/Coddy_02/0002-1.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/Coddy_02/0001-1.jpg So what started a bad day for me ended up not a bad day fish wise. Meet up with Frisky Fox on the Patch who managed some Bream plus a doggie but I am sure Mike will post a report. Coddy

Went over to Stainless Steve's workshop on Saturday and bought one of his split ring versions. If you collect you can get them for

Paul Be warned that fitting a s/s prop may give a slight performance increase, the down side is if you hit anything with the prop. Aluminium props allow damage but s/s often transfer the damage to the gearbox/leg! Coddy

After doing a few more jobs on Lady C my son Matt and I decided we needed to see if we could get a fish on board. We headed out to the Poole boat park, and dropped the anchor nearby, as I have still to add all the old numbers into this plotter. It was easy to find by the number of boats around. There was a good swell until the wind died down and them was far more comfortable. We arrived near at the end of the ebb but Matt managed to bring in 4 nice bream biggest going a 2lbs. So Lady C has now had its first fish on board! After a couple of hours we headed back in and tied up at the pontoon to try to resolve the winch problem. It turned out one of the foot switches had failed in the "on" position so I disconnected the lead to allow the winch to be operated at the helm. Hope others had a good day out as well. Nice to get out again but still a few more jobs to do! Coddy

Having gone out today, Sunday, I suspect they might be bouncing around as it was not one of the smoothest days I have known. Still it seems they are getting into fish. Coddy

Subject: Golfing with the caddie A man goes to a public golf course. He approaches the man behind the counter in the pro shop and says, "I would like 18 holes of golf and a caddie." The man behind the counter says, "We just received 8 brand new robot golf caddies. If you're willing to take one with you out on the course and come back and tell me how well it works, your round of golf is on me today." The golfer obviously accepted the man's offer. He approached the first tee, looked at the fairway and said to himself, "I think my driver will do the job." The robot caddie turned to the man and said, "No sir. Use your 3 wood. A driver is far too much club for this hole." Hesitantly, the golfer pulled out his 3 wood, made good contact with the ball, and the ball landed about 10 feet to the right front of the hole on the green. The golfer, delighted, turned to the robot and thanked him for his assistance. As the golfer pulled out his putter he said, "I think this green is going to break left to right." The robot then again spoke up and said, "No sir. I do Believe this green will break right to left." he decided again to Listen to the machine, and he made the putt! His entire game was the best game he ever played, thanks to the robot golf caddie. Upon returning to the clubhouse, the man behind the counter asked, "How was your game?" The golfer stated, "It was, by far, the BEST game I ever played. Thank you for letting me take one of your robots". The next week the golfer returned to the pro shop, turned to the man behind the counter and said, "I would like 18 holes of golf and one of those robot golf caddies, please." The gentleman from behind the counter turned and said, "We had to get rid of the robots. We had too many complaints." Confused, the golfer cried, "COMPLAINTS? Who in the heck could've complained about those robots? They were incredible" The man sighed and said, "Well, it wasn't their performance. It was that they were made of shiny silver metal, and the sun reflecting off them was blinding to other golfers on the fairway." The golfer said, "So then why didn't you just paint them a differant colour?" The man nodded sadly and replied, "We did and then four of 'em didn't show up for work, two filed for welfare, and the other two robbed the pro shop. Coddy

Corky you have a PM Thanks Gas for the info about Christchurch, will pop down there. Jack, I have the "stopper" triangle but as the warp is going to go through the winch, I think the wheel may be a tad large. My idea is to lift the anchor via the Alderney method and then winch the warp back in. Knowing some of my ideas it may not work! Thanks everyone for the help Coddy

Hi all Does anyone have a spare Alderney anchor lifting ring or know where one is going cheap? Cheers Coddy

Adam Might be worth looking at the new LED lights (bulbs). Seems they give off better light distribution and less current draw. Just a thought Coddy

Hi Tim and Mike Mike, you will see her as you leave Cobbs, just off the RNLI pontoons on trot moorings. Tim, thanks for the offer regarding painting, intersted in the canopy contact, will PM you. Took Lady C out for a trial run today! Didn't know my clearance height so waited for the bridge to open, the G&T lot don't like it if you pass them cause they are not close to the bridge do they! We came back early and managed to get under the bridge at 2.45mtr so I now know the min height required. Went out down to Bournemouth and had her up to 18+kts but with the swell out there it was interesting. Handled well, however I think at some time I might have to invest in hydraulic steering to make life easier and less muscle building. Soooo much nicer sitting in a cabin and not getting wet and wind in the eyes, (if you wear glasses you will know what I mean) In searching through the storage areas I found a large fishermans anchor, bruce look-a-like, folding anchor, full set of tools in tool box, engine hoses and clips, safety light (need the holder that mounts it upside down), loads of rope of all types and I have still to dig further down! Just got the toilet to sort out looks like it has not been used for years so I hate to think if I will get the seacock to work! The anchor winch needs sorting out as it only seems to wind in and the foot switches don't seem to work but that should not be too much of a problem. Just got to load up with fishing gear and she may be ready for some fish! Might see you out there next week-end Coddy

Hi guys You are all going to get pi***d off with me asking questions about inboard engines! Anyway, how often do these remote pumps need the impellor replacing? While I asking, how much is red deisel near the lifting bridge? One for Bob F, I have a Lowrance plotter and an Icom 421 vhf, what are the connections/colours to use to wire up the radio for DSC? This will keep me busy for a while Coddy

Alan As others have said Penn are good and I have a 535GS and found it great as well as a number of other penn reels. However, I do have a couple of Shakespear reels, Neptune and some other name I can't recall, but they get used & occasionally washed and generaly kicked about. They have never let me down, had many fish on them and easy to use and dismantle. Would reccomend them to anyone on a budget or just want a spare reel for something. Coddy

Thanks Guy for the comments, I was not "fishing" for complements but just as a matter of interest. I have attached the 1971 brochure pictures. I am interested in trying to find out a bit more history of the boat if I can, Mad Mike has advised me a bit about the old works, so I will do some digging about. Coddy Harry, to upload pictures and get them to a suitable size I use Photobucket. Just sign up, its free, and upload any pictures you want. It is simple, has to be for me to use it!
