  1. I obtained a replacement/spare key the other week for my Mariner. Select Marine in Poole keeps them in stock, you just need the letters/number from your key and he gives you a replacement. I expect there are not many variants as no key cutting was involved! Select Marine's number is 01202 742474 Mention you are a member of the PBSBAC. Coddy
  2. Hi John It all depends on the make of chart, i.e. Garmin C-Map, Navonics to name 3! Small gives you limited area It all depends how much traveling/trailering you intend to do. I have the old C-Map 'Standard' size map which covers from Selsey to Portland plus all the harbours and rivers of both sides of the Channel + Channel Islands. This I find quite sufficent as I fish both sides of the IOW at times and Weymouth. If I need to go West of Portland, out of club's waters, it works but no great detail but could easily get around ok. 4. If you want to know more about trim tabs or would like to download a sim of a boat with trim tabs have a look HERE. It is Bennetts Trim tabs and has loads of information including fitting via video. The sim is bit of a laugh. Coddy

You could always go around some of the "fishermen" pubs around the coast and check them out! Well it is a good excuse for drink or six! Coddy
  13. Hi Paul Sorry to read the news! When you said they got the prop, I take it that was the one you just had repaired? Hope you get it sorted very soon. Coddy
  14. Just to add my 2 pennies worth I have a plotter and an old GPS but I never get identical speeds on both instruments. They are normally within 0.5 kts of each other but checking between two boats using differant equipment could make some differances. Just a thought. Coddy
  15. Hope you wallet is as full as mine was on my last visit to Tony! It wont last long! Coddy

John Depending on your strength and hand dexterity, I would recommend 12mm rope as it is easier on the hands to grip. Just my thoughts Coddy

  19. Hi Tom Were you in a blue hulled boat? I saw one zipping along when Paul and I tried drifting past the ferry terminal. You were right about the sea state out side the harbour entrance, that green stuff did its best to try to come over the cuddy! All in all a c**p day to be out but it was good to be out on the boat again after so long! Just a shame about the fishing! Carl, those bacon butties smelt so good! Coddy

John Why not give Orkney a call to see if they have a cuddy available so you can just bolt it on and have a proper cover. Coddy

  23. ANGLING BOATS by Neville Merritt The author, Neville Merritt, kindly sent me a copy of his first book called Angling Boats to read. This book is a guide to owning and running a small boat for sea angling. It covers from buying a boat, what types of boat there are, where to keep it with all the pros and cons of owning a boat. Also included is equipment required, both essential and others, safety, regulations, basic navigation, weather forecasts, VHF radios, ropes and knots etc. In fact the book covers everything a novice boat owner needs to know to get started and maybe remind or update information that an experienced owner should know. Having read the book and I can honestly say I was most impressed with the content, layout, sketches and good drawings to make it clear what the author is trying to explain. I learnt a lot and I am sure it will be one of those books that are often used to refer back to when trying to find out some information. I would thoroughly recommend this book to a novice boat owner as there is not that much information available even on the internet and I am sure even some experienced boat owners would learn something from it. The book is published by Arford Books and can be ordered direct from Neville
