You don't need big boat to go miles out. In most places, you are in 300-400 ft within 10 mins motoring.
Problem with flying out is the limited luggage allowance, a few pirks+jigs and you are already over the limit. And SAS are very tight on weight, so expect to get stunk if you bring plenty of tackle. On the other hands, tackles are expensive over there, a chrome pirk can be 10-20 pounds.
When we were there, a group of german were there too, but they drove up there in 2-3 vans, plenty of tackles plus they take ALL their fish, filleted, frozen and then take home in iceboxes. So I suppose driving is viable if you are up to it. (didn't Jeremy Clarkson drive up to Finland/norway in a Mer 500SL or something in a day?)
