I love scads..... I don't think they are that boney, no more than herring I think. The mistake people made is to fillet them, once filleted, the tinny bones are difficult to get rid off. I like to pan fry the who fish and seperate out the flesh using knife and fork, it's much easier if the back bone id present. Remeber to cut out the few scales on the lateral line near the tail. Sprinkle a dash of light soy sauce just before lifting off pan, it adds to the favour. I quite like doggies, didn't like tope, haven't try a smoothy thinking it's more tope than dog. Watched an old Floyds programme and he said Weever fish is quite nice. Don't supposed anyone try it?

As was said before pout makes a lovely flaky fish cake, not to mention either deepfry it in batter or flour or bread crumb. I have also tasted wrasse, yes the smaller fish is boney, and flesh is very cotton like but the big fish are not boney at all, and the flesh is that much firmer. Lovely tasting deep fried in cornflour and pour a sweet and sour sauce with chunky vegs over it.

I can launch Sweet Honey single handedly at Lymington, Warsash, and Cobbs. I can only retrieve her on my own at Cobbs and Lymington either at high or low water, anywhere in between I need help. Basicly this is because I can tie up the boat to get my trailer and then 'walk' the boat over to the trailer. Only used Baiter once, but I guess I can do the launch but retrieving I will need a very long piece of rope and an anchor to stop the boat from floating away.

Martin, It's not working the system. Obivously your business is very important to you, without it you wouldn't have your boat, so it must be working 100% at all time. You just can't afford to have a flat battery when you are supposed to be going to a job. Change the battery before it goes dead on you. It's call maintenence . You may then dispose of the old battery in whatever way you choose, the council dump is one place springs to mind.....

But Charlie, when we retrieve the anchor using an alderney ring, we never 'run over' the rope. We motor the boat so that the wrap is between 0300 to 0500 or 0700 to 0900. If the anchor does catch solid then all it will happen is the boat does a gentle swing round.

Whenever you want to pull the anchor with your boat, make sure you tie it to the bow and NOT the stern!!!! The former will cause your boat to swing round-no big problem, the latter will cause your stern going under-BIG problem!!!!

Best to remove the cover at the wheel end and seee if you can free it, just a series of bolts.
