The 8 weeks has finaly passed and I've got my new boat home.
  3. I agree with Gaffa. If the aerial is suspect, don't transmit you could fry the output stage of the VHF. An aerial is tuned to the operating frequency, if it's now shorter it's resonant frequency will have changed and it will not radiate the full power, some will be reflected and blow the output stage. The only way to test it is with a VHF VSWR meter (not a CB VSWR meter). Where are you located, I have a professional VSWR meter that covers the marine band frequencies.

    Launching

It's ok Charlie, when I said I was looking for tips, it was a bit tongue in cheek. Although I was on a pontoon at Cobbs before getting the use of a private jetty at Wareham, I launched and recovered several times. I used to use the slip at Rockley, which must be about the worst for side currents with all the water going into or out of Lytchett bay. I intend buying an annual pass for the slip at Cobbs, it's only a couple of miles down the road from me.

As someone who's just about to start trailer boating after always having a pontoon or jetty, I've been looking for tips to make it easier, but I think I should ignore this one!!!!!!

    MMSI

Apply for a "Ships Licence" on the Ofcom site, you will get your official Call Sign and MMSI No.
  7. My money's on a dirty or loose connection, the extra current drawn by the deck wash is causing a volt drop accross the high resistance joint.
  8. Should be perfectly ok. Might perform slightly better.
  9. Thanks for arranging the showing, very thought provoking I agree with Charlie, everyone should see it. Should be shown on prime time tv.

    Garmin Transducer

    That'll be it then.
  11. Congratulations to you both.
  12. Wouldn't that be second, as Rich isn't a club member?
  13. Thanks Charlie/Terry It's a 5kg Bruce, I think I'll leave it as 200m and see how I get on. I also carry a couple of 2kg bruce anchors, I used to use these when flounder fishing in the harbour, I'd put one out the back to stop the boat swinging.
  14. I've got the Bruce anchor and chain from my previous boat, what would be a sensible length of anchor rope? I've got 200m of 10mm braid, but I don't want to carry unnecessary weight.
  15. Tell that to the doctor jim PJ The Doctor's scared to see me ! Well he didn't do your mummy much good!!!
  16. Is it an optional extra on a warrior?
  17. Jim Is that a new figurehead sitting on your cabin, or is it what happens to crew that catch more than the skipper?
  18. 58knts!!!! You should be able to nip to Poole for the comps!!!
  19. There's the Premier Inn on Holes Bay, 2 Adults =
  20. Agreed. That's why I've got a fridge/freezer in the garage, handy for cans of beer, bottles of wine and ragworm overnight (wife doesn't know about the last item). Also comes in very handy at Christmas.
  21. Just a tip, try not to write in all UPPERCASE, it's taken as shouting.
  22. That's certainly the case here, you take it to the council tip/recycling centre, at Wareham and put it with the others.
  23. I've deleted the site from favourites, and come to it via a Google search, it's still there, I give up. I'll have to ignore it, only problem is I won't see any new adverts that get put there to replace SMB. It's still if I now click on Home at the top of this page.
