    The fishing trip

A guy was on the water for his weekly fishing trip. He began his day with an 8 lb bass on the first cast and a 10 lb on the second. On the third cast he had just caught his first ever bass over 12 pounds when his mobile phone rang. It was a doctor notifying him that his wife had just been in a terrible accident and was in critical condition and in the ICU. The man told the doctor to inform his wife where he was and that he'd be there as soon as possible. As he hung up he realised he was leaving what was shaping up to be his best fishing day ever. He decided to get in a couple of more casts before heading to the hospital. He ended up fishing the rest of the morning, finishing his trip with a bass like he'd never seen, with 4 bass over 10 pounds. He was jubilant.... Then he remembered his wife. Feeling guilty he dashed to the hospital. He saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about his wife's condition. The doctor glared at him and shouted, 'You went ahead and finished your fishing trip didn't you! I hope you're proud of yourself! While you were out for the past four hours enjoying yourself your wife has been languishing in the ICU! It's just as well you went ahead and finished because it will be more than likely the last fishing trip you ever take!' For the rest of her life she will require 'round the clock care. And you'll be her carer forever!' The man was feeling so guilty he broke down and sobbed. The doctor then chuckled and said, 'I'm just kidding. She's dead, what'd you catch?' I'll get my coat.

    Red Diesel

If red is going to end up dearer than white, because of more pollution, there will be lots of people buying at Tesco's and lugging cans of diesel to their boats.

    Red Diesel

What's to stop anyone having a central heating tank installed at home, having a tanker come and fill it, then use jerry cans to ferry it to the boat as required? The oil company don't know whether or not you've got oil fired central heating.
  7. Gordon The sad thing is, you're probably right.

    Diesel Tax?

Fit big heat exchanger to engine, plumb it to radiators around cabin. Claim that only efficient way to heat radiators is to run engine as it also drives the circlating pump, the fact that it moves the boat is an unexpected side effect.

    Merry Fisher 585

I want to know how tight a fit it would be in my driveway. It's the first time I've known Max to be smaller, but then the French are always different!!
  13. This is probably a question for Tom. I'm probably being a bit thick, but I've just been looking at the specs for the MF 585 on Southern Motorboats site and can't make sense of the Beam measurements. I understand Beam at Water line 2.12m. The dimensions I'm having trouble with are: Hull Beam = 2.55m Max Beam = 2.40m What's the difference between Hull Beam and Max Beam, and how come Max is less?
  14. Happy birthday Martin.
  15. Thanks Jack and Coddy The important thing is I retired yesterday, so more time for fishing and I should be able to make the club meetings now.

    Radio Gone Ga Ga

Depends how the switching is done, some sets ground the speaker via the push to talk button (others via a relay), so that the speaker is disconnected during transmit. Besides a speaker problem wouldn't stop it transmitting. Andy, are you sure it doesn't transmitt?

    Radio Gone Ga Ga

Andy I used to repair VHf's and CB's as a sideline. Haven't got access to all the test equipment now (they closed our electronics section), but the first thing to check is the mike lead, many VHF's won't transmit or receive if there's a break in the mike lead. I'm happy to take a look for you if you like, I'm at Upton. Regards, Brian
