Tony they all look the same to me mate. and we tend to try differant wrecks so doubt we get the same one very often. I can only say I have definatly caught one eel twice, a small one [25lb] with a badly disformed mouth caught on an inshore wreck on two trips about a month apart many years ago. at least it proves that catch and release works. I would like to see that one again now, they can put on 10lb in a year it would be heavier than that carp Charlie

What a great fish and no doubt landed on very sporting gear. It fought well. I am sure they are not tame, it just makes me wonder when they know them so well by name and fight charecteristics Charlie

Thanks Rob I was not aware of that, and do not really need them until May But i would be interested in using Steves if I can, then I could loan him the two bigger cannon ball ones I have afterwards. That way someone else gets a go with the Club set. Although I have not been out for ages to lose any lead. Charlie.

Steve I would love to borrow your watch lead mould and the 10oz cannonball. I am about to make some leads up and have a couple of heavier cannonball moulds that I could loan you when I return yours BTW Appreciate all the recent safety advice on this subject. Charlie

Hi Dave/All I believe that this could be the thin end of the wedge, and although I have not spent hours going through the paperwork, I have listened to it discussed at work and at meetings. Like Duncan I do not see evidence of detailed evaluation of a trial. I also hear that this ban is being pushed by someone who lives in the area in a large house that may or may not be fed up with grockles and the sound of boats in his bay. No fish zones sound bad enough no boating zones another. The main complaints about huge wind farms offshore and their exclusion zones, appears to be the additional hazards to boating in poor weather, if boats concentrate into small areas around the fringes of the zones. Just my thoughts But I heard Toms thoughts about permenent moorings voiced at a meeting at the Yacht Club this week.

I carry a spare 15kg Bruce copy This is the anchor that is for the windlas, but not left on the bow as we are usually on a swinging mooring. I have 100m of warp and calibrated chain on the windlas, and a bow shackle to stop it all disapearing below deck. The main anchor and chain is stored in the cockpit, and deployed /recovered there. so if I lost one I could either rig and use the windlas, or simply transfer it to the cockpit. I would not be happy going out without two onboard. but I appreciate not all can carry the weight or have space. Charlie

Adam When you have set the comp dates we will have a better idea. No intention of stealing your thunder mate I was sat at work looking at a 2011 tidebook. You organise it when it suits the other boats and comps, and I will see if I can get crew and time off. But if its a big tide, I may stay nearer home. Not yet sure what Cherborge is about, thats a new one on me. Its not somewhere I have taken my own boat, but it sounds interesting. Charlie

Wow that was quick, 9 already Duncan I was thinking of trying the 4 days again, 12th I believe is Thursday back Sunday. the late may BH is a very small tide, but I doubt I can get time off. That should not stop the trip, but it will stop Alfresco going, loaning the boat to the boys for a trip to the bay is one thing , an alderney trip is another. Early June may clash with the 48Hr but not sure yet, and if it does it would not matter that much. Charlie

As this is already 2 pages long I thought it might be time to look at dates i have just had a look at the tides and it does not look that easy to pick a good one. Who is thinking of going again? and what thoughts on the tides? To me it looks best on the 12th/13th with a back up on the late bank holiday which are even smaller tides. The late May bank Holiday is sometimes busy for me, I usually have something on at work. Adam have you had a chance to look at the comp dates for next year yet? Hi Greg It would be good to have you around mate Not sure how you like to leave your boat when you are away from it, pontoon and power or swinging mooring to keep costs down I may be able to help with both options at the Yacht Club where I work, maybe just booking periods in the Marina when you are actually with the boat as long periods at visitors rates get pricey. we had lilbrit earlier in the year for 10 days, he seemed to enjoy his stay Charlie

Did anyone see Extreme fishing last night? Most of the show I quite enjoyed for a change [by ignoring the presenter] and would have loved to swap places with Robson for a few casts at those exciting fish inshore or by the Chimney wreck. But I could not get my head around why he had to walk through piles of rotting fish at the beach market. sure it was one of the poorest countries in the world but I find it hard to believe that that stuff was for human consumption. we would not use it for ground bait. sorry to side track the thread Charlie

Gordon bought a pack of those cups with coffee and whitener in. Just boil the kettle and pour in add sugar if required. then toss the cup in the bin. They were Kenco, so tasted great. We do not bother with flasks any more but friends bring them and we use them on the way out. I must say Aluns always tastes good. Charlie
