I Think that as the weather is about the same as last week the Competition tomorrow had better be postponed again. Next Sunday is the Club gathering with families so I had better move this comp to the 3rd September and keep everything crossed that we get the two in during sept for the sake of those in the BFM Sorry for the short notice but I have just come in Charlie

Good morning Fred We had a Committee meeting last night and discussed many things, including the various new Club records. In Brief the Committee have decided to make all major shark records easier to record without any chance of injury to the angler his boat or the fish by just recording the species of fish and its length Can I ask you to let me know what length the porgle was, we know you probably did not measure it accurately. But it allows others to have a target size to beat. A nice fish whatever its weight and the safe return of the fish deserves recognition Well done charlie

I see from the BFM received yesterday that a few Members are in the top 50 with Paul D top Club rod can a few more please support the comp this Sunday so that Paul and others are given the chance to record another good result and move up the list Thanks Charlie

Hi All With the weather forecast looking very poor and so far only two boats confirming they are fishing Pete and I have decided to postpone the competition by 1 week. The decision has been made early for those that were thinking of taking part and have not yet purchesed bait and taking into account comments made by the Members at the last meeting, that they would rather have a good days fishing and record their catch than just scratch around for small fish. If you do fancy the weather for a private trip, stay safe and have a good day Charlie

Nice one guys I thought you were sticking to the warriors Mark I hope Nipper gives you good service, I would love to look at the electronic package in use before I decide what to fit on ours Very tight lines and many of them Charlie

Alan all of the major species count so Mackeral, bass, scad, pollack your target species plus those that you may catch while feathering for bait all count the rules however only permit 2 hooks, so after you have enough macs for livebait you may need to use a cut down rig to catch at least 1 more for the comp. rules allow these two hooks to be two rods one hook each, or one rod and a two hook trace. so you could fish a second rod for other species while chasing the specimen bass, but I would think that would be more trouble than it is worth. Rules also allow you to fish any 7 hour period between 0600 and 1800, but if possible please nominate the 7 hr period in advance. Tight lines Charlie

Gordon My youngest Dan will be available if you do not mind youthfull crew [14] If so call me on the mobile or at home tonight. Charlie

Nice one Fred with all that preperation you deserved a result. The best result after such great sport must be to see it swim away smiling. If anyones fish deserves place in the echo this one does, instead of that one on a meat hook last week. but we had better not start that one up again Well done the Cyclone crew Charlie

Hi Tom nice report At least the run shows that the theory is right, and none of us get to practice the technique enough to be expert at it. I am surprised you did not get more tope with all that groundbait keep up the effort and I am sure you will reap the reward Charlie

Thanks for the comments guys please keep them coming so that The Committee and I have some ideas on what you think. The competition times have been opened up recently to cater for peoples other commitments, tides etc, so we hope that has helped But I feel that completly opening them up to any time /date loses the focus on a competition, is it not the point to all be out in simular conditions/tides etc and see who does best on the day. If you record the fish caught on any day that you can escape your other commitments to go fishing , when you manage to tease out that elusive "Fish of a Lifetime"you are allready eligable for a lot of Club trophies. Fish of the month and most species have a trophy for best fish of the year. The way the Club competitions are going, would Members prefer not to have the monthly comps and just have these two catagories, the Open and the 48Hr ? A radical move away from how the Members used to get to know each other, learn the sport gain a few marks and make friendships that have lasted the years. I have delibratly not mentioned the Safety aspect of knowing who is at sea during our comps until the end. Is it the need to pre book that is putting people off?? I also note that it is the usual faces [Names] on here that have replied perhaps some of the newer Members would also like to give an opinion please. Thanks again I had better go back to boat building now Charlei

Hi all Just to keep everyone in the picture, I only received 5 sets of results from the last species comp. While that does not pose a problem for the Club comp and the scores will count for that one. It does give me a problem with the BFM comp, where a minimum of 10 anglers must fish. Unfortunatly the deadline of a week has passed so I was unable to send in a results card. We do not have to pre book which 4 comps we use and there is still time to get two more in. the next 2 will now be the August species comp and the September Ray/Flatfish comp. I feel sorry for those that took part last time, especially those that fished hard to catch 8 species and Gordon who won and would have maintained good points in the BFM. I find it hard to believe that with the Club growing so big we can not get 10 anglers fishing. I have received no real feedback as to why that is and would welcome some please. Charlie

He did 13lb 6 oz keep the reports coming lads we all enjoy reading them especially us that are not out much this year. Please PM me those that you want added to the book before Thursdays meeting Charlie

I was Sad enough having seen the fish man handled onto the quay and to read that it was sold questions the legality of act and the stupidity of putting it in the press. Is the boat licenced to sell its catch? Peerhaps Dave M would like to answer that one after speaking to the skipper I believe it is[sorry WAS] one of the mackeral sharks, so not hard to confuse the echo on that one. There are pot buoys as far out as the rips so that does not really indicate that the capture was that close to shore. When out two weeks ago we saw a good thresher chasing bait fish, she leapt right out of the water 100 ft from the boat, and we were about two miles off the coast Charlie

thanks Dave all received reply on route Charlie

I would rather read that tosh Than see the corpse of such a wonderfull fish on the quay again. Echo is not well known for accuracy Charlie

Thanks for the nice comments guys I am sure Wendy will let me use the galley to feed the crew, but I also sure it better be cleaned after or life will be hell when she checks "her" cooker. I have no date yet, am really trying to get everything I can done to a good standard, rather than rush to get her finished for a set date. I must say this nice weather is not helping, to easily distracted to other family duties, and GRP is hard to work with in this heat, let alone working n a dust suit and mask in this temperature.
