  1. Nice one Adam Thanks for taking Sam out he really enjoyed it. I am not sure I will get crew next season at this rate, the boys are really enjoying fishing without Dad, if they start catching as well there will be no stopping them Thanks tagain o all that have taken them out while I am occupied Charlie
  2. Is Sam still a Member Billy If so PM me the cath report for the book mate Well done Sam, nice to teach the old Man how its done Charlie
  3. great white

    Zidane

I am surprised that there have not been more jokes after the world cup Charlie
  4. The Club record was a reef fish caught and netted solitair as my mate was heard to say " I am not going near that" as he retired to the sharp end of the boat. His thoughts after I wieghed it in the net and then picked it off the deck [after it got out] so that it could go back are not repeatable here. But the look on his face as a novice angler was great. Great fun Charlie
  5. Hi James When it is my boat again I am sure we will The intention on Sat was to go for the cod, so we stuck with it. Humphrey likes to fish more for table fish than the harder fighting varieties as we do mate. We did have a couple of very slow drifts by a rusty bit and I tried dragging a flapper, but the wreck got the gear before a fish did I am sure we will get the chance to give the congers a go as soon as the boats done. charlie
  6. Nice one Mark well done But please reserve the gaff only for the fish that for some reason are to be kept. with care and practise an eel can be chin gaffed to minimise damage prior to return, but they do not just sit there waiting to be gaffed untill they are well played out. Much better to practise the netting technique for the sake of the fish Charlie
  7. Nice one Alan well done mate Its a shame other people put their own intentions above the need of others but thats life I suppose. We boat people usually look after each other when we can. Glad it turned out OK I would also have been very nervous of transferring the baby and even more so of the two pets. Charlie
  8. The bigger one. Fist double in ages, on a nice day offshore charlie
  9. Two fish, one happy angler 15lb 7 oz and 5lb 8 oz Charlie
  10. accepted a trip with Humphrey today Dan and i joined Humphrey and Neil at 0700 for a trip 20 miles out to have a go at teh Cod. We had decided to join other Club boats for the trip to the cod marks, and try not to be distracted after wreck pollack en route. It was a slow day compared to the recent reports, but after 5 months of boat building it was great to be afloat with the rods again. Neil started the ball rolling with a small cod that went back and swam away very strongly. As the tide increased we were thinking of moving when wallop, a fully bent and nodding uptider and ABU 7000 giving line, reminded me of why I am building an Offshore angling boat. After enjoying playing the best fish I have hooked for ages, a very plump 15lb 7 oz cod was well netted by Dan, for his well pleased Dad. A short while later another of 5Lb 8oz also took a fancy to my rubber twin tail. As I said earlier a slower day than other recent trips, we worked hard for our three cod but I really enjoyed myself. Charlie
  11. We saw that one out on Poole Patch last summer Its a big boston whaler with all those horses. god knows what a trip to the patch must cost??? Charlie
  12. Tom as yu will read elsware I could not keep refusing trips and today left the boat building to go out 20 miles with Humphrey on Ow Much On the way out early this morning I noticed a few strange swirls in the water and just after asking Neil what he thought it might be, a Thresher of about 6ft long came completly out of the water about 50 yards away. It had been chasing the mackeral on the surface, and was a great sight. We stopped the boat but did not see it again. It may be a good sign for your trip mate Charllie
  13. Nice one guys You are really on song now well done again Charlie
  14. Nice one Paul Good advice Finding a good looking lady who finds a day rocking around on a drifting boat smelling rubby dubby romantic must be a winner. have a great day and enjoy the fishing to Charlie
  15. Sorry to hear its now dead Paul but nothing in the marine world can live forever. On the up side when you get a replacement it will probably be a newer more efficient unit, the boat will finish up going faster and be more economical. but as you say you have to talk to the missus first time to test the sweet talk mate Charlie
  16. Nice one Gordon Seems to be some great fish about Nice that it went back OK Charlie
  17. Hi Rich While I enjoy recording the fish and its good to hear that so many good ones are being landed. I am looking forward to joining the fun again. I have been doing exactly that in the wheelhouse mate, I am sure the neighbours enjoy me working on the boat late to escape the heat. Thats it Duncan take the P~~~ out of poor old me Charlie
  18. They have been worked out and sent to the BFM but not posted I will have them with me at the meeting. working late on teh boat is slowing me up a bit this year, sorry lads Charlie
  19. Nice one Mate If I slow the boat build a bit it will give you all a chance to enjoy the fishing in this hot calm weather, while I sweat inside a dust suit. It just seems that the fishing is better this year while we are out of action with the rods and lines No of course I would not rather be fishing. honest Tight lines all Charlie
  20. Nice one mate especially so after Alans comments yesterday about how much he wanted you to get your first double Some great fishing and teamwork well done charlie
  21. Sounds like tope to me too We use short fairly thin single strand Stainless wire for the biting end to a fairly long 60lb or 80lb trace to rub the skin. the thin wire goes between the teeth we also use uptide chemically sharpened hooks with small barbs. A live bait will get them if they are there in numbers, if not half a fish [ether end] will let more blood into the area. the tail end works very well but trim the tail off to stop spinning. I think refering to Threshers as common is a bit stong Matt, I have been known to do a lot of tope and conger fishing and I have never hooked one, perhaps they are further out? Can you PM me the numbers Andy as I would like to see if that is an area we know for tope Cheers Charlie
  22. I have seen the tank its a good one simular to mine from GW with a differant inlet and the addition of the air pump My inlet has a hose cliped around the inside of the rim, which has holes facing down into the tank and a blanked off end. it does not circulate water around the tank, but it also has nothing to obstruct fish from swimming around the tank. I think the imprtant thing is Rich's point that the tank takes less than 2 mins to fill to the overflow, which in theory means a change of water every 2 minutes. That washes away any blood in the water and keeps the tank at sea water temp. two essentials in keeping bait for long periods IMHO Nice one Rich Charlie
  23. Great day boys and some wonderful fish Please submit the catch report forms as usual, as the bass trophy has gone to smaller fish than 13lb many times. Well done the team sound like its all down to teamwork when you go out. Charlie
  24. What a bummer It must have taken ages to decide Work/Fish Fish/work Well as the best days work is not as good as a poor fishing day it could not have taken long. I get great enjoyment of seeing novices catch fish, even if it means a few extra tangles and a bit of coaching, etc On a charter boat at least the crew take on the other duties and you get a bit more time to enjoy the day quiz the skipper etc. I have found skippers to be very free with knowledge even when they know you have your own boat and are in fact a "Proper Angler". even more so when they know you fish well away from their area. I would go in a shot, enjoy the day out on a nice boat and try to catch a few fish and learn a few things. I am sure you are already booked to go Have a good trip Charlie
  25. Hi Guys keep the input coming. Terry it is in fact the smaller boats and their crews that tend to fare better in the series of species chase competitions. Their speed to move about and ability to get in shallows chasing mullet etc give them an edge and maybe the bigger boats are tempted out to distant marks and therefore commit to a less versitile approach to bait and tactics. Some of the bigger boats fare better in the best specimen type competitions, as my old boat did. I Think by the fact that weather does not have such an effect on plans. Last years Open several of the bigger boats stuck with plans to go a few miles when a lot of others stayed inshore due to the weather forcast. That said i think Adam and James went further than we did by a lot of miles. If we changed the Club area's it would affect more than just the competions, what about records, fish of the month, annual species trophies etc Do other people think changes would make a differance to how many Members fish our competitions? If so what changes. Charlie
