  1. Hi all I might as well add my two penneth. The Mag has IMHO levelled off from a very good beginning where it filled a large hole for many of us serious anglers that only really fish from boats. I have cancelled my subscription when it ended for the SA [Not for the first time] as it was again in a slump, and I had lost interest in the context and content of many of its articles. Unfortunatly the BFM is at a low point but the boys and I still read it every month with interest. even though I have done a fair bit of congering I enjoyed the article, as I did the one on Bass fishing with a float. I personally enjoy reading articles at the time reletive to the seasons, Ie Bass in Summer, Cod in winter etc and enjoy the odd article about fishing for exotic fish in far off places. Dave needs time to take the Helm and in my book I will read on and decide in May wether renewing the subscription is what I want. I hope the Mag continues to improve and Remember its done some good Club articles on PBSBAC in the past, I am sure it will again once we can get back out there amongst some fish, and not sit at home in crap weather playing with these computer things. Give me a rod and some fresh air anytime. Charlie
  2. It is supposed to be coming back on sunday Al, but its weather permitting Charlie

Sam Get back to your studies son. or back to designing the switch panal for the new boat Charlie
  5. Hi Gary I hope we see you next week for more discussion July would be a good month for the comp as this year some excellent fish were recorded during July including a fish equalling the Club record and then another of 13lb 6 that set a new record By the way both of these fish were returned as were several other doubles so you will see that our Members take the fish conservation issue seriously[without prompting or any other Club incentive] and enjoy returning even the best fish to continue their breeding. Tight lines Charlie
  6. Good luck if you get out according to BBC Weather for Poole Sunday may bring 40 knot winds Stay safe Charlie
  7. Hi Garry Let me introduce myself, I am the Fish recorder for the Club and part of the Job is to arrange the dates for the annual Competitions As Maverick says the dates are not yet set and will not go firm until after the Committee Meeting in January 2007. I am sure you can see from just a few replies that our Club is very keen on Conservation of all species especially the Slow Growing Bass. To give your comp a wide appeal It would need to be run in a transparently fair way with a great consideration towards conserving these fish. May I invite you to join us for our December meeting next Thursday evening. when BASS are giving a presentation after the meeting regarding the species. I am sure we will all learn from it and you may make contact with experianced Bass anglers about their views on the subject of Bass only comps. Best Redards Charlie
  8. Well that one span out of conrol for a bit in the middle I have tried starting a 60HP out board by the emergancy pull cord with a lot of cursing and sweat eventually it ran I would think 1/2 a rev of the prop would make starting an engine impossible, but just in case remove the kill cord. The position of Nuetral should be easy to find The gear selection is vis a dogclutch so it is only Ahead-Nuetral- Reverse In Nuetral the Prop spins freely in ether gear it will not If the boat is on her trailer an easy one to check without the engine running. The real problem would be if the selection of a gear causes the box to growl as it goes into gear, this indicates that gear selection is not positive enough. It could result in beveling the leading edges of the dog clutch and require a lot of expensive work. at times if the gears become badly worn they stick in gear. I am sure that this may not be the case, but if in doubt maybe an engineer looking at it would be a safe bet, a few quid spent now may save a lot of down time and expense later. Charlie
  9. I am sure sam will be interested for his school project on what makes a good family boat. I am sure he has not considered nailing a few pieces of 4 by 2 to an old pikey's caravan. We like to fish over wrecks not from them so may give it a miss Charlie
  10. Do they now have to wear raincoats in Weymouth Churches Billy? Charlie
  11. I had a few simular incidents with Great White in big following seas She just did not have the speed to keep ahead of some waves the worst was a wave catching her on the stern quarter and knocking her off course, best to back off the power let the wave go then power up and straighten up. Only Time will tell what the Offshore will be like But we sea trailed one in a force eight at Padstow and I have been on Garys twice with the sea up and Prodigy was not bothered underway. In fact thats what caught us out on the 12th, we were cruising out to the wreck at about 20 knots so thought it would be fine, that was untill we started to think about anchoring Punching the sea on the way in at reduced revs also seemed fin at 12 knots Charlie
  12. I thought that was all covered by the "SAy Yes"button Can I go fishing dear? [say Yes] Can I go out tonight dear [say Yes] Can I buy a bigger boat [say Yes] I can think of a few others where a guarenteed Yes would be good but with the kids reading this I think I will bottle out of putting them on here Charlie

  14. Ita a compromise thing again With three of us now wearing flotation suits in the cold weather it takes a lot more room I have cured it by building a bigger boat but its cost me a year away from fishing charlie
  15. Hi All I think you are right ref the 2s/4s debate The four strokes have some advantages but I do not think low servicing costs and a long life expectancy are two of them. We have changed from Honda to Yamaha at work because of the high maintenance costs of the Honda units and the cost of parts. Paul in my exoeriance with outboards be vary carefull of the three year servicing. while it may be fine for the engine etc but as you said the parts under water will not come apart for maintenance easily after three years. When I was an outboard maintainer for the Marines. Suxuki water pump casing bolts would shear at the 100 hr service if we did not take the box off and grease them when the engine was delivered new. From personal experiance I fitted a brand New Yamaha 60hp 2s to my Dory. It ran sweet for years and was fully serviced. after several years fishing and a lot of hours the crankshaft bearing went.
  16. Mike I am sure when you are getting nearer the time you will be having a good look around, at least you have a good contact for Jennaux's. IMHO all boats are a compromise and balance between, budget, size layout and finish. If we had more budget then I am sure we would be building a different boat, or more likely buying a finished one. But hopefully by carefull planing, spending and hard work we will finish up with a good offshore angling boat, that also has the comforts for a family boat. Good luck with your searching. Charlie
  17. If it is any compensation Alun I was speaking to Gordon recently, he changed from Lowrance to Garmin when he changed boats and is very pleased with his new setup I am sure it will be fun and a good excuse to be afloat learning how to operate the Garmin Charlie
  18. Nice one Terry and to Rich Mark and Julie for looking after you so well We hope to see you again next year Tight lines Charlie
  19. Hi Gordon We have had some problems with water in the oil of Honda 4 strokes at work The indications are that the sump level rises slightly, then the oil start to emulsify Cure has usually been a strip down of the engine and new lower seals, oil and filter change and flush etc A real pain in the butt and wallet but not one you can atribute to anything you have done wrong, checking your engine every 30 hrs is about equivelent to our weekly checks in the summer. Best of luck Charlie

  22. What would we all give for this on our Christmas list
  23. Hi With Growing sons we have opted for the more economic two peice sundridge ones. but we know they are only really bouyancy devices and still carry lifejackets for all onboard. In fact these are on offer in Wessex angling at just under
  24. I spotted a window as well But the tides are much bigger this week so I hope that you take that into consideration. Tight lines Charlie
  25. Sorry to hear that Alun I had Lowrance on Great White and it worked fine even though I fitted it. In fact I was so Happy with it that I am still thinking on fitting it to my new boat. I know that plenty of the Members have Garmin kit and are happy with it, so I hope that works for you. Charlie
