Nice one Mate If I slow the boat build a bit it will give you all a chance to enjoy the fishing in this hot calm weather, while I sweat inside a dust suit. It just seems that the fishing is better this year while we are out of action with the rods and lines No of course I would not rather be fishing. honest Tight lines all Charlie

Nice one mate especially so after Alans comments yesterday about how much he wanted you to get your first double Some great fishing and teamwork well done charlie

Sounds like tope to me too We use short fairly thin single strand Stainless wire for the biting end to a fairly long 60lb or 80lb trace to rub the skin. the thin wire goes between the teeth we also use uptide chemically sharpened hooks with small barbs. A live bait will get them if they are there in numbers, if not half a fish [ether end] will let more blood into the area. the tail end works very well but trim the tail off to stop spinning. I think refering to Threshers as common is a bit stong Matt, I have been known to do a lot of tope and conger fishing and I have never hooked one, perhaps they are further out? Can you PM me the numbers Andy as I would like to see if that is an area we know for tope Cheers Charlie

I have seen the tank its a good one simular to mine from GW with a differant inlet and the addition of the air pump My inlet has a hose cliped around the inside of the rim, which has holes facing down into the tank and a blanked off end. it does not circulate water around the tank, but it also has nothing to obstruct fish from swimming around the tank. I think the imprtant thing is Rich's point that the tank takes less than 2 mins to fill to the overflow, which in theory means a change of water every 2 minutes. That washes away any blood in the water and keeps the tank at sea water temp. two essentials in keeping bait for long periods IMHO Nice one Rich Charlie

Great day boys and some wonderful fish Please submit the catch report forms as usual, as the bass trophy has gone to smaller fish than 13lb many times. Well done the team sound like its all down to teamwork when you go out. Charlie

What a bummer It must have taken ages to decide Work/Fish Fish/work Well as the best days work is not as good as a poor fishing day it could not have taken long. I get great enjoyment of seeing novices catch fish, even if it means a few extra tangles and a bit of coaching, etc On a charter boat at least the crew take on the other duties and you get a bit more time to enjoy the day quiz the skipper etc. I have found skippers to be very free with knowledge even when they know you have your own boat and are in fact a "Proper Angler". even more so when they know you fish well away from their area. I would go in a shot, enjoy the day out on a nice boat and try to catch a few fish and learn a few things. I am sure you are already booked to go Have a good trip Charlie

Hi Guys keep the input coming. Terry it is in fact the smaller boats and their crews that tend to fare better in the series of species chase competitions. Their speed to move about and ability to get in shallows chasing mullet etc give them an edge and maybe the bigger boats are tempted out to distant marks and therefore commit to a less versitile approach to bait and tactics. Some of the bigger boats fare better in the best specimen type competitions, as my old boat did. I Think by the fact that weather does not have such an effect on plans. Last years Open several of the bigger boats stuck with plans to go a few miles when a lot of others stayed inshore due to the weather forcast. That said i think Adam and James went further than we did by a lot of miles. If we changed the Club area's it would affect more than just the competions, what about records, fish of the month, annual species trophies etc Do other people think changes would make a differance to how many Members fish our competitions? If so what changes. Charlie

Hi Tom and Crew great to hear the trip went well Rich I was pleased to get the promised picture text of Sam with Bass and Cod Nothing better than that while I am at work. Seriously I was well pleased for him he was so keen to get out again and has been missing his fishing. We had a blow by blow account of the day last night, and he admitted losing a bigger Cod just under the surface due to thumbing the spool to much and popping his line. shows that he was getting a bit over excited. and still needs a bit of coaching. Glad to hear that Charlie has recovered. Perhaps I had better except one of the trips offered soon, before I forget which end of the rod to hold Charlie

Adam I am working due to a race meeting on sunday So that should sort out the weather Calm weather delays racing and make the day longer. So It usually coincides with my days on during race meetings. Good news for you guys fishing but frustrationg for me at work. Have a good one Charlie

After reading all members comments with interest I had better add my thoughts on the subject I agree with what seems to be the majority, while we try to have a variety of competitions to appeal to the members not all of them appeal to all members. I have been known to stay fishing for bigger fish rather than move away from them to fish for points, especially on a nice day when the bigger fish are biting. and I have been known to move out from the bream marks during the bream competition to try for tope. while this has gained me the trophy for Eels and Tope in the past, it has been a few years since I took the species comp. If I was out on one of the competition days especially the species comps I would register prior to the event and report my catch This would be to support the Club and those Members that take it more serouisly than I do. especialy those like James who are really trying hard to do well in the BFM competition. Simon you could always volunteer to take on this job mate, the only perk I remember is to try and avoid your own working and family commitments when you work out the years competitions However leaving all the comps untill the new boat was ready seemed a bit to much to ask not many bream around in October. keep the feedback coming guys Charlie

There is a lot to discuss but only limited feedback from my earlier post Please add your thoughts guys as it will be good feedback for the next committee meeting, where I know this will be on the agenda. feedback on all the Clubs Competions please, inc the 48 hr. Can the admin team copy this to another post so that everyone gets a chance to see it. The species comps have been altered several times to try and make them more popular, none of the changes seem to work. I have always been a specimen hunter and would rather be after big fish than bagging up for points. That said if the weather is good and the opertunity is there to chase the bigger ones offshore I would still note down the catches and send in a score card. I seriously doubt that scratching in the harbour will be top prioity on my new boat next season. but we will be back supporting the Clubs competitions. Don't be shy If you have a comment good or bad lets have it. charlie

Nice to hear that a few were getting rewards for chasing the species I look forward to the reports /score sheets so I can send on to the BFM Charlie

Very informative Tom Sam you had better phone on time, you may miss your slot I hope the trip goes well I will not be at all bothered about being at work thinking of you all enjoying yourselves. Tight lines Charlie

Great sport Dom but a little on the dangerous side Do you book in with A&E before you go fishing or take your mum along to patch you up. By my reckoning you finished with a few good fish and also a bitten Thumb a spiked hand a tope bite and the dreaded LSD rash A few lessons to be learnt I think Charlie
-
Well I make that 9 booked in so far and we need at least 10 if anyone is out and were not going to register please do so to ensure we meet the minimum numbers I find it hard to believe the club has grown so much and we struggle to get 10 anglers on a competition day according to recent reports the fishing is good, the weather is great and the flexible times mean you can start early enough to watch the football in the afternoon. So who has a theory as to why so few are entering? Answers on a postcard please Charlie
-
Thanks Adam my message box was full so I had not seen it I have iit now, and will add toteh book later Charlie
-
Great report Fred a trully good read I agree with Adam [sorry Tin Tin] that they should be added to the reports page at least if not the front page. I am sure the admin chaps can prevent any libel action from our friendly skippers down west. Its reports like that that help maintain the efforts in the front Garden, and the hopes of tagging along with you at some stage next season Charlie PS Please PM me the catch reports of the fish from Club Waters
-
Long way to go for a few eels Sam But may be worth considereing for a day offshore after sharks I know they are rare nowadays but am sure you would get more chance down west than here Sounds like you had a good trip Dave what does it cost for a days hire of these boats? Charlie
-
Mike if you are in an area with welks there should be lots of hermits Pop down a drop net next time for about an hour baited with fish and you will probably get plenty of fresh hermits for bait when I lived at Pompey and hermits were easily collected like above they were the bait to use at this time of year Tight lines charlie
-
Great trip The sort of thing we are hoping for in the new boat next summer, I will keep everything crossed that the fishing is as good next year. please send catch reports for the book Charlie
-
Crazy What a great report shame you only had time to type the short version It sounds like anyone who accepts a trip on cyclone has to accept the banter that follows I look forward to the catch reports for the book, so far it looks like Duncan still has the turbot record but we await day 2 Charlie
-
Nice one mate What a great way to spend fathers day three generations on the boat, lovely weather and some fish to get the rods bending After a start like that Lewis will soon become as addicted as Sam and Dan Please send me the catch reports If you are a family member do not forget to report lewis's catches its great to start them young Well done the gnasher crew Charlie
-
Great fishing guys well done for your perseverance Can you PM me the list of what you would like recorded and Sam or I will add it to the book. Nice to see the fishing is going so well, even if I can not get afloat this summer while I build the boat in a very warm front garden. Charlie
