Nice one Sam Glad the day went well, I really enjoyed it. we could have caught more or bigger fish, but we could also have caught less it sounded like the other boats were struggling. There were a few first of species and a lot of personal bests today so we did well considering the hassle that the weed brought. Glad we stayed in the deep water and avoided a move inshore. I hope that everyone else enjoyed the day, here is a pic of the crew on the way back in, just as the rain started. Charlie. I saved the 1000 post for tonight

Kam we will be feathering but no guarantees to catch. The boys will get hardbacks, perhaps if others are buying peelers they can pick up some for you, the cuttles should be very usefull. Tackle sounds fine but maybe you need a lighter rod just for the bream 6/0 on wire is what I use on my tope traces for smoothies I use 4/0 on 40lb mono leads seem about right but again bring a few smaller ones in case we go in after the bream. Cheers Charlie

I presume its where you and Mark were after I suggested the area and thought you were in the wrong place. Shows what experiance brings. NOWT Glad you had a good day , Shame Robert just missed the prizes but who wants to win with doggies Tight lines Charlie

Nice one John I am glad the advice helped We went out on Monday with Gary but stayed in close on the bream due to the wind We went out yesterday, had one tope snap Sam's leader then had two smaller ones of 13lb and 23lb A bit slow but better than nothing. Charlie

Hi All Glad you had a good day, I have a few photo's that I will send through tomorrow. Nice to meet up again with the lads from Burnham, what a friendly bunch of anglers. My pleasure to be able to help with the weigh in and scores after a frustrating day at work in such nice weather. I heard a lot of good positive comments from members of both Clubs at the scales which was very good and its nice to see an even share of the prizes between the two Clubs. Well done to all the organisers {Dorset and Somerset] Charlie

Thanks Gary Had a great time Shame that the wind did not ease, but its been a while since I caught so many Bream. Charlie

Hi John The bait and tackle you suggest should do the trick, just hit the bites fairly early to stop the tope swallowing the hook and geting a chance to chew your mono trace line. My money would be on their teeth over 150lb mono. go about three miles out from the lighthouse and fish into a deep hole/gulley, there are plenty of deep bits out there Tight lines Charlie

One of the Yard lads at work knew the fisherman concerned, a very sad way to go. Aparently it was on a potting boat and the lad went over with the weight when he became tangled in the weight rope as it went overboard in 230ft of water. A lesson to us all to be very carefull when lowering our anchor and chain, especially when having rope on the deck from where it has been recovered onboard from an earlier anchoring. never stand on or in a bite of rope Charlie

Well I hope you all apreciate the fact that I am working on Sunday. As usual when I work on a Bank Holiday at the Yacht Club, the wind drops so that sailing is delayed and my day is long. But worse than that I have to spend hours listening to sailors moaning about calm conditions and watching fishing boats heading in and out of the Harbour. I still wish you all Tight Lines and will see you at the slipway and at the weigh in. I hope all our Members and visitors have a good day. I will be at work so if anyone has a problem, that needs assistance from ashore during the day. please give me a call on my mobile 07887 794716. The club is close to the slipway and fully dredged so access is good all day Tight lines Charlie

Out of interest The east Looe channel has just been surveyed and they are about to remark the channel as the sandbank towards the East buoy has moved inshore . The channel will go to the first red then about due east, taking you outside the above sandbank. I have a photo copy of the survey and will bring it to the next meeting [Memory permitting] The col regs lay down the rules for stand on and give way vessels, but I do not remember what the rules is about low flying ones. having watched the kite surfers at evening hill and heard some horror stories about what happens when a gust comes and they are airbourne [ Landed on road 2 broken legs, lost grip kite now wrapped around floor 5 of a highrise building] I would try and avoid them completly. I am sure a board in the head would ruin your days fishing. Charlie

Not sure of the address, but it was in Scratchface Lane bedhampton, which is behind the hypermarket. just around the corner from my old bungelow in Pinewood avenue if that helps paul. I am sure it will be in local Yellow pages as a boat builder Charlie

I had a Flyer for some years and It was a good boat I modified the cabin to change it to a cuddy, that increased the usable space while fishing and made it a much better fishing boat. The boat I had was made with a heavy layup, which made it stable at rest but it still went well with 60hp outboard. Slamming was a problem and when the sea got up slowing down to less than planning speed saw a big increase in fuel consumption. they are made in Scratchface lane bedhampton. I was talking to a Member yeaterday who is thinking of selling one, but I will leave him to post as and when he reads this. Charlie

Duncans about right 20 to 22 miles from the entrance. Mark its only about 5 miles further than where you were last Sunday, its just straight past Swanage and out instead of around the corner to the west. add about 25% to the fuel you used last week for a rough estimate. It is within range of your boat, If mine were faster I would go there more That said please remember to check the weather carefully, your fuel consumption will leap up if you can not maintain planning speed, and wind over tide on the RIPs can cause some overfalls and lumpy seas. It is a long way from any shelter out there, we could just see the isle of wight and the purbecks on a day with very good vis. We did not get masses of fish but what we did get were worth catching.
