  1. Thanks Martin saved my typing finger Charlie
  2. Hi Bob I have a Lowrance poltter that uses Navionics gold and am very pleased with it In fact the prices have come down on my model [5000c] since I bought it and there is a new smaller cheaper model available. I can use the PC to load and save from the user card using the mapcreate 6 software that came with the plotter, but there is no detail on the background map. It would be nice to be able to load the detail from navionics into it but it does not accept that. I emailed Lowrance who have no intention of improving the detail on maps this side of the pond. In USA the details on mapcreate are very good, over here no detail just sea and land. It does however mean that info on the card can be backed up on my PC, and its easy to sit in the study adding waypoints, marks etc if and when new ones become available. Then just pop the card back in and motor out to look for the new mark. If you want to have a look you are welcome to pop over CU afloat tomorrow, tight lines Charlie
  3. Nice one Dan Rich Sam and I will be up for that if we can sort it. I can supply the scotch Charlie
  4. James The forecast is much better for Mon and Tue so I expect that you will get there if we do not. Adam, Mark, Jack we hope to get out on Sunday at about 0800 and go west give me a shout to compare notes Tight lines Charlie
  5. Mark Nice one mate well done. I have three TLD's so if you want it checked over internally just pop it over here and I will check it for you. I have the three bigger ones 15.20 and 25, but they are very simular inside I would get some line on it damn quick and see if its your lucky reel. Lovely reel for braid and deep water drifting. set the drag on the stop, then its instant to back it off with the lever to give line, and back to the set tension every time. Charlie
  6. I have just looked at all the weather sites I use allthough the wind is up on Friday the strongest I see is 24knots which is 6 maybe 7 can not see anything at this time that looks to reach 50 to 55 knots [Force 11] most sites have the wind easing at the weekend now, so lets hope that they are right Charlie
  7. sounds like you have cracked the setup Paul well done. Isnt the tacho just an electronic instrument, can the wires not be extended with a good quality wire with good conductivity? can the resistance of a couple of feet make that much differance. most Tacho's that I have fitted are fed from a cable [on the loom] coming out of the control box which is allready some way from the engine. I know with your background that you would have thought of that, just not sure why you can not mount it on the console in easy viewing. Charlie
  8. Well Paul Is it a secret or are you going to spread this new found knowledge among your mates at the Club. Charlie
  9. No Kam thats a couple of miles away This one is the small ferry [Passengers and pushbikes] that goes between Eastney and Hayling Island Take the turn off after Portsmouth and follow the Eastern Rd towards Eastney and Southsea [ Langstone Harbour on your left] at the end of the eastern Rd there is a roundabout go left, passed the shops there is a set of lights with a small park on your left and pub on the corner, go left passed the park. keep to the left at the y junction. keep going passed the slipway and the Eastney Cruising Association Boat park [on your right] at the far end of this rd the rd ends at the ferry pontoon. Parking is on the gravel on your left. I have not been there for 10 years so if anyone knows it better than me please feel free to correct these directions Charlie
  10. Nice one Helen You managed to prise Sam out of your chair then. so you could get onboard again. A lovely fish, the biggest this year so far Its in the book Charlie
  11. Hi all I have spoken to Steve and confirmed the booking, subject to the weather we are on. He will be looking for reasonable weather as we are taking the boys and going for the fun of it and not to get beaten up, battered and bruised. Steve will postpone if the weather is poor. I have arranged the pick up to be at the eastney side, on the ferry terminal at 0800. Steve will bring the boat over from the Hayling Island side We will probably fish the Selsey area and Utopia 80 to 100ft Slacker water for Tope and Hounds and during the day will have a chance to target some bream while the tide is running hard. 20b to 30lb gear downtide with braid, or it is on the depth limit for uptiding if you are confident to use that method. So I suggest a bream rod and your prefered 20/30 or uptider I spoke to Steve about bait but apparently Hermits are much harder to get there now than in my time so we should take our own bait Mackeral, Squid, hard back Crab, hermit crab and a few worms for the bream The kids are on 1/2 term so will go to the quay for some hardbacks, Rich can you organise some live hermits?. The rest should not be hard to get. There is no cooker on the boat but a good kettle so hot drinks and biscuits will be supplied, cold drinks and sarnies you will need to bring with you. We should get ashore at about 1630 I hope that is enough info, if you want more please ask Charlie
  12. Hi Steve I hope that is not a sign of things to come. You have probably spotted that we are coming your way on June 3rd, for a trip on Trio. I have not forgotten your offer but Sam wanted to bring his brother and a Mate, so a bigger boat was required this trip. We would love to try another time when Dave would like to take his boat, Sam and I will crew for you both. Any tips for the Charter trip will be apreciated Charlie
  13. Hi Enjoy the banter Charlie
  14. Bl##dy Rough Not to recomended or enjoyed even on a Destroyer or Aircraft Carrier. I have been there on both and did not enjoy it to much, I was nearly seasick on the carrier. Definatly not the weather for any PBSBAC boat, even Bliss 2 Charlie
  15. Is that a line from Star Wars rich??????? Charlie
  16. Nice one James Great sport on such light gear nice to know that the fish are in Charlie
  17. Thats the one Kam, it does have a distinctive snout. and it also has an impressive set of teeth, small but very sharp. It is a proper small shark and will make short work of baitfish and nylon traces. Charlie
  18. Hi James Tight lines for the Tope his boat is called Nik Nak Charlie
  19. John Thanks for the tip I saw that one on John Wilsons fishing in Gambia program years ago and have used it with ease in deep water ever since . as you say all you need is a bit of line a carrier bag and a large fishing weight. and a spare rod/reel We all carry them when we go fishing. I have one on the boat made from a length of very strong net cord, its been used dozens of times and cost pennies. One point though only use fresh or fully thawed bait that is cut up fairly small. If you use frozen it will float away. : Charlie
  20. Hi Duncan Well as they say everyday is a fishing day but not all of them are catching days. I would rather have been out in the sun than sanding the bathroom walls, but I am sure the brownie points will be usefull when the bigger fish arrive. charlie
  21. Hi all, Sam will be pleased that the trip is on, lets hope that the weather is kind. Thats the three boys and I Rich Swain Mark Bessant Kam if the timings suit and James Parker Thanks for the quick response guys I will confirm the booking and get more details As I said I asked the skipper for a tope/Smoothie trip. The boat is a Lochin 33, leaving Langstone ferry pontoon at 0800 returning at 1630. Kam please confirm if you are willing to risk the traffic to get back for work. If anyone wants to be reserve please let me know I will check with the skipper about the bait situation it should not be difficult to get him to organise hermits for the hounds and mackeral should be plentifull for the tope I will post more details as soon as I have them Charlie
  22. Hi all Sam has asked to go Charter fishing on his 15th Birthday [28th May] He wants to have a go at the bigger tope and Smoothounds out of Portsmouth with his Brother and a mate, and of course me I have booked a trip on Trio out of Langstone Harbour on Friday June 3rd from 0800 to 1630. I have booked the whole boat, Lochin 33 which can comfortably fish 8 [
  23. You should have picked up a few, to sell on. I would get a couple if Ikea was nearer Charlie
  24. Sunday afternoon looks good and into the evening but Mon and Tue looks better perhaps doing the bathroom rebuild at the weekend and then a trip after work would be my best bet. Duncan I do not usually drift for Tope but I know the lads on Jigabyte do with some success, Sam and I are going to give it a go and see if we can scale our tackle down as a result, probably not untill the tope arrive in numbers though. Charlie
  25. Hi All This is one of the busy subjects this season and I love reading all the differant ideas. Jack I have been looking at boats like yours on the net, and would love a trip sometime to see what they are like afloat, Of course the shadow would want to come to [sam} , especially if tackle and bait are to be taken. Perhaps we can try and get together and get your boats fish repellant to switch off. bring on the tope Charlie
