  1. Martin you are welcome to join Bob and I if you can stand a slower pace of life. Bob I will call you later tonight Charlie
  2. Lost it again then Mikey. Try taking the pills with less alcohol Charlie
  3. Which skippers Peter? Or is that a trade secret at this stage Charlie
  4. Its a TV ariel He does not like to miss coronation street you know, I bet the sets in his pocket. Charlie
  5. Hi Bob you are welcome to join me if you want especially as young Robert has another booking like my kids. give me a call when conveniant to discuss timings and plans. I will have to check GW as I have not been on her for 3 weeks. regards Charlie
  6. Hi all its time to try again. This Sunday brings the third of our series of species hunts and the third round of the Suzuki Boat league for this year. It would be nice to see another good turn out and I hope that the calmer and warmer weather that i have just seen on the TV actually arrives this time. We need at least 12 fishing or James good start of maximum points from 2 comps will be wasted Please report your catches promptly, as I have only 7 days to submit them to the magazine. Wendys parents are visiting this weekend, so my boys are opting to stay ashore and be spoilt rotten rather than get up early with their Dad. I will therefore need a crew if I am to fish, so if anyone fancys a trip call me , email or post a reply. Tight lines all Charlie
  7. Ah Bob So there is hope for the final chapter then, and a return to one a month? Charlie
  8. Adam I think you would be better off with ether a harder plastic that can be machined [routed] like white nylon or using hardwood and painting or coating with gelcoat. Space Age are now on the nuffield estate opposite the post office depot. Charlie
  9. I was just reading through this post considering wether a warning about weekend divers was in order and I get to Pauls comments. Cheers matey It's true a lot of the inshore wrecks that have potential are a magnet for divers at this time of the year. best of luck with them if you decide to give the wrecks a go. Charlie
  10. The two on the back of my boat are made of hardwood with routed edgings and are paited with perfection 709. easy to make and not too expensive. But if you are still wanting plastic Space age Plastic is one of your best options. They can be made the same way as mine, but I am not sure how smooth a surface you will get on the edges it depends on which plastic you can get. If you want to have a look at the ones on GW, my block paving is almost done so it can be arranged during a trip soon Charlie
  11. Coddy In the interest of your safety I would advise that you get well used to the Boat, area and the slipway you chose to use before you venture out on a night trip. Its a big step from daylight to night time boating in small boats and thats without all the fishing gear , bait and a couple of stroppy congers thrown in while its dark and you are tired. When you get down perhaps you would like to come out one evening and get a few tips before going the whloe way and taking your boat. I am sure someone else would join us. Charlie
  12. Rich Why are you worrying about a seperate battery? It can all be rigged to a 12volt supply. my first one was made up with the wires from the pump into a Choc Block type connector and a choice of three connections from there to the 12 volt supply. [ only one was connected at any given time] 1. plug for connecting to boats 12 volt system 2. two crocadile clips large enough to go straight on to a car battery 3. plug for the cigar lighter in the car. as the latest one is a bit bigger and tends to stay on the boat it is just wired up for the option 1 above. using the boat/car battery saves any doubts about charging up, and saves carrying a battery about just for the tank. Hope that helps Charlie

Should have tossed a couple overboard James
  14. Nice bend Was Dorset fighting back???? Charlie
  15. Ah the ones that get away are more memorable than some that are landed. I expect that the spot will be re-visited soon. Unfortunatly the work load and bad weather will stop any evenings out this week. we will have to try next week. Charlie
  16. If he has Hells, I wonder which orrifice our illustrious leader put it in. Charlie
  17. Hi Bob At last evenings meeting it was agreed to add the silver eel to the list of species and allocate them 2 points That takes your score to 89 and second on the day Well done for scratching out so many points on a day when the weather was bad and Robert was not well. Charlie
  18. As Martin says please submit your catches for the Club Species comps in the normal way on the score sheets I have not got time at work or home to go through all the posts to see what has been caught. and then fill in all the score sheets. and my PC at home is on dial up so I am paying to surf the net while looking for what you have caught. I will not be responsible for any that are missed if the correct score sheets are not used. Charlie
  19. I have fitted a lowrance 5000c this year and am very pleased with it so far Charlie
  20. Adam if you want to come out one evening we can have a trip and show you the tank Weather not good this week and I am away on Sunday perhaps one night next week Chat on Tursday Charlie
  21. Adam the problem with braid is that splicing is tricky and needs a special tool. while 3 strand is easy to splice and cheap, polyprop is also nice and soft. and it comes in blue to match your hull if you want to be posh like gary. Charlie
  22. Adam I have a cut down blue tank, but have never gone the whole way with a deck wash I use a cheap 12volt bilge pump with 3/4" discharge pipe the wires have been extended and connected to a plug, which can use one of several switched sockets on the boat [fitted for this and extra lighting.] the pump is connected to about 8ft of pipe, the cable is clipped to the pipe, then the end away from the pump is attached around the inside of the top of the tank. It has a bung in the end and several 1/4" holes drilled in it facing down into the tank. 3/4 the way up the tank a skin fitting has been attached tail outside and with a fine mesh over it to keep the eels in, another the same size has been fitted through the hull on the stbd side at a matching height. [these are 1" to give a good flow overboard] when i want to use the tank, it is moved into place, a short length of hose fitted between the two skin fitting tails. Connect to electric, toss the bilge pump end overboard and turn on. the tank fills with clean sea water up to the overflow great at anchor and when drifting. if the tide is strong I attach a weight to the pump. When underway lift the pump onboard and drop it in the tank to recycle the water. This system is not as good as a deckwash, but has served me for years. Ow Much has a simular set up but has the tank higher and a pipe over the side so does not need the hull skin fitting. Providing not to much bait is added and it does not get left on recycle for to long the bait will stay alive all day. I have had live mackeral in it all day as long as no blood goes into the water and no more than about 10 are in it. if they die take them straight out It works for bass fisherman in the channel islands and for me and is not expensive to set up. I have matched the pump to the one fitted on the boat so it would make a spare if required and I stow clean gear in the tub at the end of the day to stop it rolling around the boat. Nice to swap these sort of things on the forum Tight lines Charlie
  23. Nice to see some decent results considering the windy weather. After a very busy weekend socialising with a mate who is emigrating to New Zealand tomorrow and another mates 50th birthday Party on Sat, we were running late when Sam announced that he was to tired and went back to bed. Although Daniel and I were tired we decided to give it a go, a few mackeral in swanage bay saw us anchoring one of the banks, unfortunatly the combination of to much wind, to much party food and not enough sleep got to Dan very quickly and he was soon feeling very ill. We moved inshore and to several marks but only managed wrasse and more wrasse. Two bad results on the trot has made it very hard for me this year in this comp. but the boys will still be keen to try harder on the next one. Can I remind you all that I have to send the results to the BFM within 7 days and I must have 12 entry's so even if your day was as bad as mine let me know how you got on. Charlie
  24. I was out yesterday [Wednesday] where were you lot. Seriously we had a boat break her swinging mooring so had to go out to tow her free, using our 2 18ft open workboats, winds about 50 knots. Face full of salty sea spray every 15 seconds lovely. I was thinking of your photo's James, the waves in the harbour were 4 to 5 feet and that was enough. focused the mind a bit. Charlie
  25. Glad you got out of your close call OK Paul. The last two close calls I have had with Yachts, have both been with French boats. and both this month. I am sure that they did not understand all of what I was yelling at them as they sailed straight at my boat at anchor. but I am also sure the hand signals were clear enough. I think I may resort to the old handfull of mackerel heads in the sails next time. Yachty's would hate that as much as we hate being run down at anchor. Charlie
