There was plenty of wind and waves out there today Not that Manta Ray was going to let it spoil our day, what a great boat she is she does you proud Al. Not sure that I would have been so comfy on Alfresco south of the island today. Thanks for a great day mate, Sam and I really enjoyed cod fishing with you and the guys today. 2 cod from the 15 or so weighed in. While we did not win, that was certainly not down to any lack of effort First fish to the codmaster weighed 9lb 10oz Well done Nigel, 9th place. The second came to me later in the day and weighed in at 8lb 15oz After a little assistance from Paul Dore, who was tangled with my line and did most of the winding in. I was very pleased to see this fish Hit the net. At the weigh it was 11th and worth a few nice pieces of terminal tackle. Charlie

When Dan hooked his big porgie, 4 of us were fishing a rod each. In a way we were lucky that on its first run dans braid cut through mine and wills lines, which meant we could quickly buoy off the anchor while gordon wound in. I have a small buoy permanently tied on the inner end of my anchor warp, it stays in the bottom of the rope locker. This buoy does not pass through the alderney ring that we use. So all we have to do is undo the belay on the cleat and chuck the line overboard, start the engine and chase the fish. That tip may help others. But I think that I have only had to buoy an anchor about three or four times in the past twenty years, of fishing for specimen fish from my own boat.

We are fishing the Loni comp that is still on. No doubt Tomo will have a radio on Good lock guys stay safe Charlie

We all have a few theories about these fish that run hard and spool anglers If it was earlier in the year a shark would be the top choice At this time of year I start to think about the barn door skate that used to be caught south of the island As you say it would be great to get a closer look at one of these beasts Sorry to hear about the windows on your boat mate, if the culprit is found perhaps someone could drop him off by the dolphin bank to feed the big fish Hope to see you out there soon Charlie

The boys and I have been invited to join a Club crew to fish the Loni comp on Manta Ray Its on the same day, so we can fish both Please add Manta Ray, Tomo, Paul D, PJ, Nigel plus 1, Sam Dan and I

Taken mine off the swinging mooring and put her alongside in the Yacht Haven with a few extra lines as well Hopefully the forecasters are just being very cautious, and the winda are not that bad. As Stave said good job it is a neap tide

He did get a large conger on his spinning rod on Alfresco a few years ago, so perhaps he has it right

I have signed Is now the time to see if the AnglingTrust has the will to really get behind Recreational Sea Anglers and build a case to support Billy and his Members, and all of the assosiated businesses and interests around the Weymouth Sea A ngling scene. Let us all hope that they do I am sure our committee will discuss this and perhaps send the Club a letter of support from PBSBAC. Meanwhile I will send my own letters Charlie

Balls under a sealed deck would be my choice, they take up a lot of the available space sonif the hull is holed limitsvthe space for sea water. The marines use this approach on their small landing craft, bullets can break the seal and a few balls but the boat stays semi buoyant (gets to beach before sinks) Negligable addition to the overall weight. My old dory had foam, it became waterlogged and had to be removed. It was hell of a job , but was worth doing because of the weight removed from a planning boat. The same would apply to removing the bulkhead, a lot of weight would go, just remember it is a huge part of the boats strength and stiffness, so some of that has to be put back in. Good idea to cover the boat up Graham she looks good in her tent.
