Thanks Neal, an interesting read I remember a few years back a lot of discussion about specimen sizes, especially that congers over 100% being easy to get Maybe the same could now be said for flounders, but I know what I would rather fish for. Well done to all of the Members that got in the top three. Lets hope that the wind drops soon and we can get afloat Charlie

    Lead melting

Hi Mick Do not put anything wet into a pot of boiling lead mate, it will cause a steam bubble that is very likely to blow back molten lead. I saw the results of this once, it was not pretty. According to the angler with the burnt face, The cheap leads were not worth the pain. I keep my bits of lead in an old sack in the garage to make sure they stay dry/dry out fully before I use them Charlie

    Lead melting

Glad that you have the gear sorted Mick Just remember to wear the safety kit and ensure all of the lead is dry, as you do not want it spitting in the pan. Charlie

  19. Well as I am at home with a bad back, the festivities season is over and a New Year has begun. It seems to be the right time to open the 2014 tide book and have a look at dates for our annual trip to visit the lovely Island of Alderney. Tides seem to indicate that the first weekend in May is not ideal, even though using the bank holiday may have appealed to some. Weekend 9, 10, 11, 12 look to be a very interesting, small tides. Weekend 16, 17, 18 again the spring tides, may not make that an ideal choice Weekend 23, 24, 25, 26 the tides are again about right, it incorperates a bank holiday Monday, which may give me a problem at work, but in the overall picture would probably be a good fallback date. As we all know this trip is definately weather dependant, those of us who made the trip in 2011 would remember that we were a little too keen. While the trip was safe enough, fishing was limited by the weather. The 2013 trip was delayed, less boats made the rearranged dates than originally intended to go. But the better weather enhanced the enjoyment for those of us that could go. I therefore propose that we look at going over on the weekend of 9, 10, 11, 12 May 2014. At this very early stage I have no idea about how many boats are thinking of going this year, or even my crew availability, accomadation etc I have just called Mark and booked all 6 beds at Alderney Angling for three nights from the 9th, who knows I may even stay ashore myself this year, I must be getting older LOL. But lets start the ball rolling and see where we go from here. 2nd Weekend in May 1. Alfresco, Charlie plus crew tbc
  20. Perhaps he was working with logic from being in touch with his female side. IE Do a crap job the first time, so that you are not allowed to ever do it again. Worked for Wendy and painting radiators, LOL
  21. Brilliant post Dave thanks for the reminders Charlie
  22. Now added it to my tablet It looks terrific but while the cursor shows wher I am how do I get a lat long to show. Quite a lot of things on there are very basic compared to Navionics on my PC in the office and Navionics gold on my plotter. Terry how do you enter your waypoints mate? I have to go to the London boat show next week so no doubt I will quiz the Navionics experts when I am there. I will also ask them if now that I have purchased it for my tablet can I load it to my phone. (Both samsung S3) Still its something to play with in this weather HAPPY NEW YEAR Charlie
