Caught one on Christchurch Ledge last weekend - whilst Bream fishing. A few are beginning to turn up. Odd ones being caught throughout the whole area.......won't be long! Neal

Shame there was no public appology for wasting huge amounts of Taxpayers money in applying common sense.

First competition of the year is almost upon us - and the Weather Gods look like they may intervene! It is a species hunt and it looks like a few species are beginning to be caught. Rules for this comp - try to keep it simple. It is number of different species per angler that count. Maximum 3 hooks. Please photograph each fish to use as a check in case of a draw Kayaks plan to fish Swanage Bay as a practice for their National Comp in May. Everone else, wherever! just try not to get hung up on targeting Bream! Weather call will be made on Friday between myself and Safety Officer. Any other questions - don't hesitate and good hunting! Please sign in below Neal

Also went out for a look to see if anything was about - not a very sucessful trip down to the Ledge Saturday and with the weather supposed to be worse Sunday, wasn't going to go Today. Late decision to go and get back in if the wind picked up as forecast - only went to Poole Patch. A few out there, who all disappeared as I arrived - sat it out to a steady stream of fish until early afternoon when it went dead - so home early. 10 different species for the 2 days - good practice for next week!

So far it seems that a total of 14 fish have been caught by club members!! Yet every day - posts are appearing with some good fish being caught. By recording your fish we can all get a more accurate picture of what fish are around and at what time they appear! Neal

Happy Birthday Tony I hope you have a great day Neal

Congratulations on your new club (UK?) record Charlie. It's good to see good numbers of these being caught in our area still. Hopefully the message that these are a protected species will also get through to everyone. Neal

Brings back memories of having to check and change sensors at the top of the Derrick on an offshore Drilling Rigs. They usuallly packed up in a gale! which made for an "interesting" challenge. The exploration rigs float - so the derrick rises and falls with the swell - although dampened - plus it swings as well. In those days - no harnesses and the ladder to the top had no safety hoops. Strangest one was going up in the fog - unable to see anything whatsoever other than the ladder in front of you. Not something I would fancy doing these days - occasionally I have to work from a scissor lift and I find that "uncomfortable" Neal

Happy Birthday Paul Enjoy your day Neal

Utter bas***ds!! Send a letter to Sea Angler and see if they will print it. We didn't take our dog walking anywhere near where people were fishing as she would eat anything and everything - but there is no excuse whatsoever for people to leave this stuff lying about. I hate littering of any kind and often remonstrate with people who do it. I wish more people were fined for doing it.....in my view it's as bad as or worse than parking violations. I hope you had pet insurance! and that the costs were at least partially recovered. Neal

Paul I will have it. I can collect from Ringwood on my way home. Pm your address please. Neal

I worried for your personal safety for a few moments - until I saw it was the name of your boat! Neal

I was aware that the Rays are caught in Winter - but I thought that they moved away from the inshore marks and moved to the deeper water - off-shore banks. I have never caught them on the Spoil Grounds this late in the year. I haven't heard of many whiting being around or Herring being caught this Year. I am sure it will all change soon enough..........it always does. Neal

A late Monday night call to Mike Fox gave me crew for yesterdays weather window Like a couple of others we decided to see if the cod we around at the western end of the bay. We went to my usual cod spot just south of the spoil grounds as a big tide would make life difficult too far offshore. First a pout made an appearance followed by dogfish... then a good bite and following a long struggle a 14lb Blonde Ray came on board. However it had managed to knit 3 lines into an appalling mess - which took a good 30 minutes to clear and resulted in 40m of broken braid. Mike then had a similar sized Blonde Ray - which was "released" just as it got to the back of the boat. (Mike - Imustuseathickerleaderforwintercodfishing!) Decided to move offshore to a "cod Hole" - but only caught congers - brought 1 on-board to weigh - 28lb. Then back in-shore to join AWOL and Wight Magic - but instead of fish we found a rope running left to right across the stern of the boat - with no sign of any buoys marking it's presence. Might be what Pirky hooked into? So with Martin heading off and Dave packing up - we decided to move off as well. Good day out - still can't catch a decent cod and it looks like the weather is going to keep everyone in Port for the next week or more. Neal
