It rather depends on what you want to get out of being a member of the club. I joined initially, to find out where to find fish in the local area - having owned a boat for the previous 10 years and guessed! since joining.............. I have met a great bunch of people who love fishing/boating I have learned how and where to be more successful in catching (mostly!) I have learned more about safety than I thought I needed to know! I have learnned more about different types boats, engines, repairs etc with genuine offers of help whenever it is needed. I have taken my own boat across the Channel to Alderney I have entered club fishing competitions and eventually won one. I get to see what other people catch locally and enjoy the experience through the forum. I got involved in organising Poole Bay Small boat open comp. If you get to experience only one of these things - then joining the club will be the best investment you will make. Neal

I just want to give a public note on the forum for fantastic service from Mark Harding at Alderney Angling I broke a favourite - but old rod on friday night - not even dearly departed with a monster catch on the end. I phoned Mark Harding at Alderney Angling on Monday morning to order a new Daiwa Kenzaki Braid 20-30lb Rod I picked it up yesterday evening in Bournemouth. he had asked his Brother who was visiting to carry it back on the Plane. Thanks to you both..........and a cracking bit of kit - looking forward to christening it on Sunday! Neal

Jim, You have got it all wrong............I intend to drift about aimlessly and see what happens I havn't got a clue what to "target" or where to go, not only that, as I will be booking people in - I will be one of the last to go out! Good luck everyone Neal

To solve this potential problem - we will discuss tonight at the meeting. It will be my intention to possibly keep the scales open for an extra fifteen minutes. This will only be possible if people phone ahead before 5.00pm and confirm they are between the bridge and Cobbs Quay - this will not be an excuse for adding an extra fifteen minutes to anyones fishing time. If this is agreed then a telephone number will be posted tomorrow - but it may not be agreed! Neal

Oli, He who catches the biggest bass wins! - that simple. Don't know what he / she wins - unless it is the largest bass caught and released - which then qualifies you for the BASS spnsored catch and release trophy. Neal

Congratulations to you both. Now the fun begins!!! Neal

Well done Jim on your second place - I'm glad you couldn't follow me through the rough stuff otherwise maybe your first PBSBAC competion win. I'm sure it will happen sooner rather than later, although I hope you follow me into second place on next months open comp! I fish species comps in a number of place around the UK with members of the Police (not the rock band!). Their score sheets list Pout and Poor Cod together but other mini species do not count, however, on other species hunts Poor Cod is listed separately and mini species do count. Basically- whatever the club rules are is what counts. If members want it changed then let the commitee know prior to the AGM. Anyway, I enjoy the challenge presented by that particular comp and I used only 1 type of (secret) feathers all day. (Actually I lost 3 sets of them in the process) I caught around 60 Pollock in total - fishing mostly in places I have never fished before. Neal

Jim, The first one (with the stripes) was a pout - the second one looks like a poor cod look at the aquarium project to verify - a very useful website! I am not sure if the poor cod counts as an extra species as it is not listed on the score sheet - but may count as an extra pout! Neal

First stop - Brownsea Castle - just to see what was about - straight into Mackerel, which very quickly dispersed once boats started to appear. Then small Pollock. Saw Jim - without his "mummy" - then we went out to the end of the swash to look for Scad and or Gurnards - couldn't even get more mackerel. Then off to Swanage Bay / Peverel Ledge nothing happening - so set off around Anvil Point - met Jim coming back - close in to the cliffs nice and calm but no fish caught - so decided on a longer drift from Dancing Ledge - changed our minds and went round to Chapmans Pool. Finally - Pollack & Wrasse. Gave up for a while to fish with bait - caught a couple of nice Blonde Rays and dropped a very big eel. Back to Swanage Bay to find some Pout - failed - so back to Brownsea Castle more pollock, pout, poor cod and wrasse. final tally Neal, 4 Mackerel, 4 pollock, 3 wrasse, 3 pout, 1 poor cod although not sure if it counts. John Young, 4 Mackerel, 4 Pollock, 1 Wrasse Neal

If you want worms - rather than carry them through customs etc Find a patch of grass and pour (warm) soapy water on it and I belive the worms will all come to the surface.........think I read / heard that somewhere! It's easier to get hold of washing up liquid and less likely to fined or get bumped off a plane! Neal
-
I may also go out - but not too far. I have got to catch up with Charlies impressive list of mini species. So it's Baillons Wrasse and Corkwings for me!!!!!

Colin, Happy to take you and Bobbi for a day out on my Arvor Neal

Happy 18th Birthday Dan.. Hope you are not working too hard today and that you manage to have a memorable night tonight. Neal

This has nothing at all to do with road safety - just the maximum amount of revenue gained by targetting a large volume of traffic in and out of Poole on a dual carrigeway. It would be more effective to save lives by reducing the speed limit and monitoring it, along the edge of the Drax Estate by Stag Gate on the road between Wimborne and Dorchester where people are regularly killed and serious accidents occur almost weekly. Shame on you Dorset County Council, Borough of Poole Council, Bournemouth Borough Council, Dorset Police, NHS South West, Highways Agency, Her Majesty

Adam, I also am considering heading south on Sunday....... So, depending on what time you are leaving and how far you are travelling, then I may join you for a days sport! Neal

I would suggest that you take your own - but get the skipper to confirm that they will work ok. He makes his living getting people on to the marks and then catching the fish. Ask him what works - and take his advice. Neal
