check the charts and look for the nine mile banks. It can be a bit rough in bad weather if wind against tide, but ive fished it, and i have a much smaller boat than yours and it was quite nice out there! Blondes, tope, spurs, conger and a mixture of other rays out there. Forget utopia unless your launching from pompey as its at the opposit end of the island. St catherines, now id love to try that one time, but not at anchor, but on the drift for a porgy, but i think i need a bigger boat first Any1 wanna take me sharking out there, let me know

rods on a budget- get a pair of Diawa Vitesse 12lb class. about 50quid each and i would say that apart from looking the dogs, they have the best action you will ever see in a budget rod and would knock the socks off anything else in that price range. Multipliers vary in price, but you can get cheap reels that are very good. Cheap reels that have a level wind normally give poor line lay, so look for a reel without a levelwind and thumb it across instead. Infact, i wouldn't buy a reel with a levelwind at all. Star drag or not! Up to you, but most prefere a lever drag, although i like the star drag, and have no qualms in using one with a star drag. 20lb braid on the 12lb class outfit will provide great sport for inshore species like hounds, bream, bass, and the smaller ray species upto 15lb or so! You only need to go heavier if you are fishing at anchor in very deepwater, or your fishing for tope, congers, winter cod and blonde rays but 20-30lb class would be the max anyway, with 30lb braid ok. Rigs are easy if you know how, but if you just wanted a few bites, then baited feathers work a treat, and will catch most inshore species and no prep needed. Danny P.S, don't listen to Tom, hes a tackle tart and doesn't use cheap rods.lol . Solid C rods are fine just playing Tom

We agreed to meet at my dads at 7.30am, but it seemed to go wrong when he wouldn't get outa bed, and we ended up heading out about 9am with my cousen James and his missus Mel, both who had never been boat fishing before, and my dad, who only got out of hospital 4 days ago after a long stint in due to a heart attack and some surgery was always going to be tough, but all in all, a pretty fun day, although mel spent most of it sea sick, whilst my dad slept in the cuddy most of thr trip. With the cramped space, we all stuck to a single rod, and to be honest, i didn't really have my fishing head on as i was just hoping to put the rest on a few fish. Anyway, maccy a plenty to all, before a quick blast to xray for rays. It's pretty hard going, with small a couple of tope comming to my dad before the dogs arrived. a dozen dogs later, and i land a pb thornie of 14.10 followed by a 9lb smalleyed to james. A quick chat to paul d on Neo and corky and daz (?) on stargazer before i head in. Thanks fr boat pics paul, it looks like im going to take off James is a dedicated carp angler, and between us we took some footage of weighing fish at sea and how to get an accurate reading(ish), and another of the fight, i'l see if i can get him to email me them and i'l post on the video section. Well done to those who fared better than me today, but it was good to see plenty of boats out today

who did u get mate? If i steam pass u whilst your on the ray mark, you couldn't do a pic or two for me of my boat on the plane could u?
-
hmm, take all of mine

ok crew sorted, book me in But dont count on me to catch anything as theres 4 of us on the small boat, il be enjoying no space, one rod only, and 'coz there all beginners and never been boat fishing, il be skipper, anchor monkey, navigator, setting up all tackle, launching, retrieving, lending out gear, unhooking fish, baiting up etc, etc deep joy il prob end up chucking the rod in the cuddy instead and seeing if i can get my crew a few fish instead, but book me in anyway, but im not sure if i will actually drop a line.

I should be out on Dat Dam Boat (hang over depending as i plan on getting lashed up sat night ), but if im fragile, it will be more of a jolley than competitive fishing this time. Either out of christchurch for ray and bass, or sowley 'way' for a hound or stinger launching from keyhaven. Dom as crew (?) if not il be looking for crew (novice or experienced, it doesn't really matter) Danny

tele rods are no good for carping though, and the 4 piece travel rods struggle to fit into a suitcase. So ive opted for 3 long distance carp rods in a monstor tube.
-
16 quid each way if i pre-book, so ive decided to wack a load of kit into a holdel thats within the weight for "sports equipment" and hopefully il get among the carp and cats out there

sorry guys, my son has a footy tournament all day so i will be away supporting him. good luck to those who are out.

I am off to spain next week and plan to do some carp fishing. I am only taking two rods on the plane, but the problem is trying to get a price from my airline for these. I am going with easyjet, from gatwick to valencia, but there is no contact number on there website and the nly way to get the info is via an online question, but im not getting any answers. I will be strapping 2 rod tubes together as one tube, and the tubes will be about 6ft long, a width of 8 inches and a diameter of about 4 inches. has anyone taken rods on a plain, and any idea how much the cost will be?
