  1. I have to say, I went the same way as you, Mike, and managed fairly easily single handed. You won't need any more than 30 degrees so if you set them for the middle of the brackets (approx 25 degrees) on both the extension and pressure brackets, tighten up, mark the holes, double check the angle then drill, you shouldn't have any problem. Terry.
  2. Where are you going to be fishing for these leviathons? Terry
  3. I assumed we were talking U.K. How big trevally are you talking about? Terry.
  4. Paul, are you going after sole? Terry.
  5. I am hoping to get out Friday day and night with Alun and then Saturday if I can get crew so could be available to assist. In fact, I had also intended inviting Legless but my plans weren't finalised 'till today. I'll let you know if I can get crew. What are you planning, an assault on the bass with livebait? Terry.
  6. I no longer have a large enough press in the workshop but, in the past, have used a pump up bottle jack, a custom welded frame and imagination. It works! If you don't have access to a welder and steel, substitute for a bit more imagination! Terry.
  7. I don't know if I'm alone but using a 30lb class rod for spinning or jerking seems a bit of overkill. Terry.
  8. There you are, then, we've all been told!. I knew he'd come home sooner or later and put an end to the conjecture. Terry.
  9. Tough luck, James. Nil desperandum, I once ended up with my knee in plaster during the sea trout run. Didn't stop me wading at night, though. All you need is good friends to keep an eye on you and get you in and out of the boat. I don't think you've any shortage there. Terry.
  10. That's one I use, Rich. It's the Trilene knot which is a recommended one for braid. Terry.
  11. Personally, I can't see any but, like you, I'm ready to be educated by the real pro's. Terry.
  12. Also worth considering, would your insurance be valid in the event of an accident. This would, presumably, apply to the car as well as the trailer if this was seen to be a contributary factor to the accident. Terry.
  13. I must admit, I found it easier using mono line on my fixed spool reel so didn't have the problem. I don't know what the experts use but this worked for me. Before I changed reels, I was using a multiplier with braid and found that ordinary mono held better than power gum on the braid. Witn regard to the breakage, was it a new swivel or a recycled one? Even the smallest amount of corrosion or salt crystals will be enough abrasive to cause the braid to fail. Terry.

    Yes, you did, Bob. Terry
  15. Go on, don't hold yourself back. You know it makes sense. Terry.
  16. No, he's mostly a trout and salmon angler (by the way, nice one in the picture). We met originally in Canada, salmon and sturgeon fishing. If anything, his wife is even more fanatical than him. They are good company and fortunately have quite good English as Danish is a complete mystery to me. It is completely unlike any other languages I have studied. We were originally coming this month but the plans fell through when their work schedule changed. Looking forward to a new date but may have to put off 'till next year. Terry.
  17. Hoorah!
  18. Hopefully, picture included. Never done this before so may fail.
  19. There is also a VHF radio with it, but not DSC. Terry.
  20. Yes, Onslow, pretty much exact, except you seem to have a shallower angle (25 degrees) and the mid pressure setting, but if this works for your combination, that's cool. BTW, where in Denmark are you? We have friends in Lemvig who we are going to visit for a fishing fest and are looking forward to trying for sea trout from the sea shore. Terry.
  21. I have the same set-up as Adam on my 165 and it works just fine. Terry.
  22. Regretably, I can no longer justify keeping two boats (at least that's what my wife tells me) so the Microplus has to go. It's basically the same as the 501 cabin cruiser with no bulkhead on the cabin, allowing full access to the deck. This is a stable sea boat and pretty quick with the 50hp Mariner engine fitted (maximum recommended). This engine has only done two days since a full service and when last used, ran a treat. The boat is on a very tidy SBS trailer which has three virtually new tyres (incl the spare) which has done very little work since new. There is a Lowance X97 fish finder fitted, nav lights, anchor with about 100mtrs of warp, 4 rod rests, 2 x 25ltr fuel tanks with a changeover switch and two adjustable pilot seats. The cover is quite tatty; I don't use it and cover it with a tarp but any cover maker could run one up for it if it was wanted. All the hoops, etc., are there. I am looking for about
  23. Charlie, go to Trim Tabs webpage and it will show the positioning. They fit very close to the outside edge of the bottom of the boat. No problem with the tranducer. Terry.

Jas, I would probably say that anything from the major manufacturers is going to handle most of what you want to catch. The blank forms the backbone of the rod, the rings need to be smooth and strong enough to handle the type of fishing you want to do, and the line of your choice and the reel fitting doesn't want to sieze up at the first sight of salt. If you look after it, the Shakespeare will probably give you years of service. Most of the rest is either refinement or flummery, or both. Most of us of a certain age can tell you about the equipment we used years ago which didn't compare to the cheapest kit about now and it still caught fish and gave us pleasure. Buy what you can afford and enjoy using it. If you make a choice, post on here and almost certainly somebody knowledgeable will give you an opinion. But not me. Terry.
