  1. I tried it with rag in the past but it didn't work they just froth up and go into a mushy mess. Colin
  2. Before you salt your lug lay them on several layers of news paper and then prick each one several times with a baiting needle( or similar tool) then let the water drain out. Put them on fresh dry paper and salt each one, they will shrink up and go fairly hard (shut up Jim!!). Then wrap them in fresh dry news paper rolling them into 10's just like Black lug. They will keep quite some time like this or you can freeze them. You can cast this bait as hard as you like without blasting them up the beach. Good luck Colin
  3. Good luck Stuie on your first trip out on your new boat enjoy it. Colin
  4. I am with Towergate Marden cover for Elbe to Rochelle but had to ask. Had a quote from Porth Cawl similar prices for same type of cover . Saga was not as good cover. Colin
  5. Happy Birthday to you both. Pete you are nearly as old as me now. Colin
  6. We will be up for this too. I've only done wrecks on charters which is totaly different to driving yourself, so need to learn from the experts. Colin

    Rig Bags

Also found if shads/jellys get wet, they need to be kept seperated so individual bags are good. Dave Dave I find that if they DON'T get wet they DON'T catch anything Colin

    Fog Caution!

I would add also make sure you have backup equipment. As we proved we needed it brand new radar went down, brand new horn went down. I have on board 2 steering compass' and a hand held compass, electric horn, a manual horn (lung power, being a trombone player I can out blow most electric horns ) 2 plotters, 2 fishfinders. Mind you I also learnt to keep things more tidy as I couldn't find the manual horn straight away when needed!! So I say back up and back up again. I was also lucky to have a very good crew who did all the right things at the right times. Thanks Rob gold star for you. As for going out hmmmm will have to wait and see. Maybe not. Colin P.s forgot to say I also have an echo max radar reflector which goes up on the radar mast under the radar but nice and high, which Rob had to remind me to hoist. another gold star for that man

  13. Bob I know you are busy these days but if I can't get the radar working proper again can I give you a shout please. As a matter of interest Boblin has one fixed compass (when i screw the bracket back on) and a hand bearing compass, also there is a spare compass in the safety locker with flares, first aid kits, life jackets and spare warm clothing. It's a pain putting all this on and off every trip but has to be worth it. Colin
  14. You are welcome Rob just a shame it wasn't one of the better days on Boblin. As Rob said the Radar packed up I hope it is just a fuse but we decided not to play with it in case it blew anything else. Mind you we were fated as 20 mins after the the radar went the brand new horn I fitted last week also packed up. Never mind there was still the mouth blown horn. We had two plotters running and eventually got the hang of keeping close to a straight line. Thanks Rob for all your help today next time we will find more fish and hopefully not have the fog. Colin
