What a great day to be out. Pete and I set off just after 0800 and headed to my chosen spot passing Serenity on his way to the Needles. As we approached the mark Fugazi and Marine Boy were already anchored up in the same area. We went over a lumpy bit so decided to drop the hook and give it a go. We had bites from the off needless to say dogs were the main culprits, we had big pout and whiting and a dragonett. As the tide turned we were ready to reanchor if the bites stopped, but they didn't. More dogs, pout and whiting but still no target cod. The weather was fantstic and Pete was regretting having all his thermals on.
Fugazi and Marine Boy headed back in to Christchurch and PJ said we should sit it out for another hour which was exactly our plan. It worked I had a gentle bite lifted into nothing another gentle pluck lift nothing and yet another soft pull and this time I connected. Bu**er it's a conger I said to Pete it gave a steady fight on my 6lb ugly stick. Pete and I were convinced it was a conger, Pete was stood at the side with the Tbar ready then as it came into sight he shouted it's a F***ing great big cod, Tbar was thrown down and my nice new net put into the water behind the cod. Pete got it into the net and it swam straight out again. My heart was in my mouth now as this was the first cod on Boblin and it looked like it would be a PB for me. Second attempt and it was safely netted and dumped onto the deck.
22LB Fantastic.
Pete then followed me up with a nice fish of 8lb 5oz
We had a few more bites but no more cod so we headed home after having a brilliant day.
