Sunday was a late start 'cos we had been out the night before celebrating. We got under way 1000hrs and shot out to Old Harry but it was not too nice so we turned round and went back in to fish the harbour for Plaice. Pete Snr was already moored up and his crew had a good sized fish in the bucket. We picked up a bouy and set about the job of hooking a Red Spot. After half an hour nothing and Pete had landed another fish. I decided to try a float just to get a bit more movement to the bait. Bobi was getting to the sleepy stage that she gets to when she hasn't caught anything after half an hour, so she curled up to have a snooze. As she did I had a bite to the float which got her interest but not a Plaice it was a plump pan sized flounder. Bobi was dozing again when I had another bite I lifted into it and fish on, a good fish by the feel. I brought it to the surface and yes I could see those red spots but it didn't want to stay and it went straight back down. I roused my sleepy wife by shouting get the net!! Which she kindly did. I had fun with the fish for a few minutes and then Bobi netted a nice Plaice only to see it sticking out a hole in the bottom of the net (must fix that). A quick twist of the net and it was well wrapped up and lifted onto the deck. Out with the scales 2lb13oz, result. There followed another period of nothing and I was getting a bit sleepy now (red wine and scotch catching up with me). My phone rang waking me and as I answered it,yes my rod bent over I managed both the call and the fish, only a small Plaice this time but the circle hook had managed to go in and out and back in the gill no way this fish would survive. It was sizable, so with the Flounder would make a good meal. We decided to get back early for us and as we packed up I managed another Flounder.
So all in all a nice day out on my birthday and Bobi let me catch all the fish. No new species but target taken and now eaten.
