Thanks for the replies oxalic acid it is then, and gloves. I don't intend taking the rails off this time but will make a note to take them off and a good polish in the future. The worst of the rust is coming from the rails fitted by cheetah, I was careful to give the ones we made and fitted a good polish and fitted them with sikaflex. Thanks again Colin

Can anyone tell me what is good for removing rust stains off of gelcoat. Boblin is in for her free engine service (open prize) next week so while she is out of the water we want to give her a good clean. The rust stains are where the rails are bolted through the fordeck. Cheers Colin

We are at North Haven and really pleased to be there. 24hr use of the club house which has a well equipped kitchen, showers, underfloor heating and free water. We are insured 12 months no prob. As Chris said there is a taxi during the season and dingies all year. It's very friendly and there are a lot of experienced boaters always on hand for help or advice. Also it is CHEAP !!! I don't think you will find cheaper anywhere in this area. If anyone is interested get on with it because the vacant moorings will fill up very quickly. Colin

With the wind like it was last night our thoughts were for Boblin out on her mooring. This morning Bobi went off to work and I was off to check out Boblin and make sure all was ok. I took my time a late breakfast and was just about to head down to North Haven when the phone went, it was Bobi asking me to ring the insurance company. Not the boat but the car !! A tree fell on top of it in the car park. Thankfully Bobi was not in the car. Just hope the damage isn't terminal, roof, side panel and rear hatch. Great start to 2012 eh? Still the main thing is the boat is ok. Colin

This post was put up by Coddy to remember the crew of the life boat. Very brave and selfless men who lost their lives trying to save the crew of the stricken coaster. I think it is very disrespectful to highjack this post to start sniping at the RNLI. If you want to voice your thoughts please start your own post. Colin

All my schools were on strike yesterday and the weather was fine in the morning so I just had to get out for a few hours. Cut n Covers were coming to measure up for my prize from the open at 1400 so had to be back at North Haven to meet Wayne. I headed off to the castle to see if I could bag a big wrasse. I had no crew so was happy to mooch around in the harbour (Bobi was working). Fishing was slow 2 drifts not a bite then on 3rd drift bang something big was on the end it fought hard and sorry to say after a couple of minutes we parted company. I had several more drifts but didn't hook into anything. So change location up the channel for a couple more drifts, nothing. By now it was time to head back and meet Wayne, he was there waiting when I got back and he got on and measured up for the covers( more about these some other time). I took Boblin back out to the mooring and while I was packing up chucked out a line. Everything was put away and I was just about to pack the rod away when something took off like a train. To cut a long story short 3lb bass. The net was in the cabin packed away I could just get hold of the handle and play the fish with both arms fully outstretched luckily the net didn't catch on anything and the bass was safely netted. So bass for tea. I still had a few worms so chucked out again and a few mins later I hooked another passing train great fun in 3ft of water this one went just under 4lb. So one more chuck and then I must go I packed all my bits into the dinghy except the rod. then locked up the boat to give my last chuck as long as possible in the water. No train hit this time, but as I picked up the rod to reel in it felt a bit heavy and started pulling back. No bass this time but a nice fat flounder of 1.5lb. So for all you guys who haven't been able to get out TOUGH Colin

We also headed out to the car park to look for our first Cod this year and also to get Bobi her first Cod. Fishing was slow only Dogs and Pout. As the tide eased off I had a nice bite and had quite a tussle with something larger than a Pout or Dog. Bobi was ready with net as the leader came into view and there it was Cod. I got really excited cos this was a big fish Bobi did a great job with the net but it was touch and go that it would fit in. I had to put the rod down to help her lift it out, a fine fish of 26lb but this fish was like Nigle's empty and showing it's ribs. We came round on the tide getting bites from LSD's and more Pout. I had another bite developing and as it took line I lifted into another better fish. Bobi was there again with the net and this went straight in a nice plump 13lb 4oz Cod. Just as it hit the deck the anchor tripped and as it was getting close to 1400hrs we decided to haul in a head for home. Poor Bobi still hasn't had a Cod but they will still taste the same who ever caught them.
