Fished Swanage bay today with a huge haul of 1 garfish. Lost leads and rigs as it was so snaggy. Do any club members rate Swanage because I've never done any good fishing there? Interested to know what works for other members.

Very inspiring and looked a lot of fun.

Launched in the dark at Southbourne

This is a quote from Si, my chum who did the rescue, from another forum. As you heard from the video I decided not to add to the confusion.

Decided that the live firing at Lulworth ranges would put me off my stroke so a fishing trip to a secret location was the order of the day Launched at 7am and drifted on the tide , soon into big macs that I freelined for Bass. Had two bitten off so reckon the pack Tope are still around. Then the bream attacked my rag that I had on for the plaice, 10 went back and I kept 2 about a lb Then took the tide back and had lots of small plaice, about 10 in all with 3 keepers. Also had my first flounder this year.

Arrived midday for my Plaice hunt and met Cam and Si who'd been out since sun up.

No worries. I'll try and get organised next season to join in. Have a good one.

[. Because of its Red colour it is often mistaken for a Red Gurnard. The blue outline of the Pectoral fins are one of the easiest methods of identification. Until Rick Stein extolled its virtues as a culinary delight, it had little commercial value and was normally caught in large numbers for use as pot bait. The Tub gurnard is the largest of the Gurnard's commonly found in UK waters. It prefers sand, mud and gravely area where it uses its extended first three thickened rays of its pectral fin for walking and detecting invertabrates in. It can be caught using lugworm, ragworm, Mackerel, crab and squid. Best bait for targeting Gurnard is Ragworm tipped with a small sliver of Mackerel. Latin name: Trigla Lucerna British Record Boat: 11lb 7oz (1972) British Record Shore: 12lb 3oz (1956)QUOTE] Tub it is. 12lb?????? Blimey

Done that and loved it. launched at Sandbanks. only thing to watch was the shallow sand bar between Sandbanks and Shell bay as this can be a bit choppy with too much wind/ tide. love the training bank early. have had some quality down time there on calm mornings.

Those Nt carparks have thwarted my early morning plans to launch there but it is a lovely paddle. I love beaching at O H and getting envious looks from the jokers atop the cliffs wondering how to get down.A great report.

Yes it was Friday.Headed in 200 yards from the shore and paddled back double quick time. The only time I really worried was tied to the buoy and a yacht heading to the show was not changing course, I raised my red paddle and then he swerved, but I'd already quick released and was ready to go. Gutted about the fly boy.

It was a cracking evening. I stopped on the way back at evening hill and saw you( not knowing) and enjoyed the view. What did the bass take? Live or lures? Great photos too.

I now have a new paddle technique that involves swivelling the body 180 degrees to see what's about to plough into me. just a couple of foot notes. Some families from Liverpool have been on 6 for the last few times I've been out and are letting their young kids f about with the radio.Mildly annoying. Also a c**sucker on a jetski towing a rubber ring deliberately done a 180 to splash(drown) me. Missed . Had he have conked out and I'd caught up I'd have..........breathe Lofty ...................reprimanded him

8-) Got to Branksome at 9.40 in a near empty carpark and loaded up Started the drift down to Bournemouth on flat calm seas and was targeting flatties but my worms were being robbed so then had a crack at the mackerel. One big old lonely mackerel was all I could manage all day. Change of plan . Smaller hooks. Success. There must have been 400+ small boats ,yachts and gin palaces all headed out to the pier so I tied on a buoy at Durley to avoid trouble. The sea got really lumpy but the airshow started and so did my bites. Fabulous seeing the battle of britain wing , I love the noise of the spitfire. The lancaster bomber shook the fillings from my teeth as it took two or three runs over my mooring. The bream were coming in three at a time on a three hook rig I had (fladen flattie rig) with ragworm ,but thet were all too small to keep so all returned, about 20 in all. Then a surprise with a string of Ballan wrasse. 3 at a time twice. All under a pound and all quickly returned. This rig will be deadly when the biggies return next spring Lots of different biplanes and insane wing walkers(WHY?) and then the highlight of the day The red arrows. Bloody amazing show and impressive flying. http://s1099.photobucket.com/albums/g388/photolofty/?action=view

A bit species limited but could be the beginning of a really comprehensive database. Works well on iPhones and is a good guideline on yaks with the built in ruler like mine to photo against, if your not taking digital scales along.

Quite basic but a good guide. For instance the bass has been averaged from 1600 measured. http://www.fishconverter.com/

I was in my yak last night fishing the haven and the bass were jumping out the water ,as were mackerel . Tried all sorts of lures but couldn't connect. Next time I'll take a butterfly net or a cricket bat. Also had a baby smoothhound surface and swim along side my yak. it was a bit surreal.

Cheers. Lofty

This is a first for me so just read the rules for the kayak comp. Couldn't see what the judging is on. Variety of species or weight of best fish ??? Can someone clarify please. Sorry if it's obvious and I've missed it.
