Good morning, All. This is my first posting on your website and I am looking forward to contributing (where I can) on the posts. I will be taking my boat out from Poole - weather permitting! - this coming weekend and would appreciate any advice on suitable marks in the area. It's a 5m RIB so fairly seaworthy and I have been looking at local charts (on www.wrecksite.eu) for possible marks. A few seem likely to me (not knowing the area):- 1 Close in to the cliffs at Durlston Head or St. Albans Head for Pollack 2 Flatties (Plaice, Turbot, Flounders ???) drifting over St. Albans Ledge running SW from St. Albans Head 3 Trying some of the wrecks in the area - but which one(s)? 4 Trolling for Bass along the Training Bank just west of the Swash Channel. What is it a training bank for? 5 Small (?) flatties inside Poole Harbour itself - but where? 6 And, of course, mackerel out at sea But these are just guesses on my part. Can anybody assist me with some specific information, please? If you don't want to give away your favourite location then a PM would be fine. I'll have squid and cuttle already as bait but are there local baits one would recommend - rag, crab, lug? Charlie (your Club Sec) has offered some advice and has recommended that I post my questions on here for your specialist knowledge! Many thanks to all. Arthur

If those folks who are interested in participating could PM or email me with contact details i would appreciate it. We are starting the preparations for this event and need to get a better idea of numbers. For those of you with smaller boats, we should be able to accomodate you with some ideas that we have had. Please let me have the details of your rig if it is under 14 ft so that i can advise on suitability. john

I have a Garmin Sounder and GPS 198C which has a broken pin on the multi-pin socket on the back. Does anyone have a damaged system (not the multi-pin) that I can have/buy to enable me to remove this part. Otherwise are any fellow members aware of anybody who would be able to repair it. I have already contacted Garmin who are not interested, as the plugs are not available from them. Please help. You can telephone me on 07770 925153 or e-mail me. Many thanks in advance John Carpenter

Hi went out last Saturday beautiful day no wind and flat seas. I am after some advice/ help ? I brought a raider 16 this time last year and I have notice anything of 15 knots is very uncomfortable very hard ride even on Saturday ! It has a 75 hp etec on the back with a 4 hp aux. I have only owned ribs before so dont know if this is normal or something wrong with my set up ? I would be grateful to hear from other members or indeed other raider owners ! Many thanks Jim

well the boat was sold to a guy who saw this ad, I didnt advertise it anywhere else in the end. he is fishing out a place near portsmouth. it was also a FICHT RAM engine, the ETECs only came in in 2004 or something! -
Whoops, have been offered some help with the trailer so I have just been out and remeasured the chassis tube only to find that the original dimensions I gave were wrong. The internal diameter of the existing tube is 46mm and the external is 50mm. I can only put it down to the heat, my age and using a tape measure instead of callipers!! Steve

Thanks Rob I will certainly bear that in mind and hopefully Mike may read this post and share his thoughts. It would certainly be good to get it sorted as I daren't take it very far at the moment (luckilly I'm only 1/4 mile from a slipway!0

Hope someone out there can help me out. I have an oldish Snipe trailer for my 12.5 ft dinghy Mistress Moon with the main chassis consisting of two galvanised steel tubes (scaffold poles?) with an internal diameter of 52mm. One of these is rotting through and needs replacing or repairing. I haven't been able to find a similar size of tube and I've been told welding galvanised is difficult and unfortunately some of the other fittings are welded onto the tubes. I was hoping I would be able to cut through/out the rotten section (1ft) and fit an inner or outer sleeve. Any advice on where I can source suitable materials or where I can take it to have the work done would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise its back to ebay looking for a reasonable replacement, and hoping that it will be the right size/shape should I win it! Steve
