Gents Many thanks for your helpful advice. Sounds like I need to replace it now. Regards Hunter

I wonder if anyone can advise I have an outboard engine fitted with an ultraflex cable steering system. The splashwell section terminates in a stainless steel arm fitted to the engine. I keep this lubricated with waterproof grease but recently each time I use the boat it is seized and I have to disconnect the stainless steel arm from the engine and put an adjustable on the end and onto the large nut on the cable - far from an ideal start to a day's fishing each time! I have cleaned and relubricated the stainless steel arm to no avail, should I be lubricating the cable further up towards the steering wheel? Many thanks Hunter

Hi Mike60, Did you manage to sort out the information on the wiring of your VHF to your GPS and Navtex? If not, let me know what the radio and gps is (make etc) and I will try and help you if I can. I am an electronics engineer by trade and have wired all the kit on my boat. The wiring diagrams can be confusing! All the best Steve

i have used both of the above and had no problems with either.

Hello Nige, I have not posted anything as I have had swine flu and been in bed all week.......oink oink!! Seriously, though I have never felt so rough....rougher than a F9. Hope you managed to sort out the overhead instrument panel....would love to get out again sometime mate in the future, especially when those cod are on the brittle grounds or to get some big wrigglers. It was a great day out anyway, good company (although I suspect I talk too much!), McDonalds brekkie into the bargain and a few heavyweights lost....Alfie would love to see the boat as well and help share the costs if ever you need two crew, especially for eels. Kind Regards mate Pete

Once again thanks to everyone for posting your comments. For Tomo and Paul D, I haven't ventured to Aldernay yet, so haven't experienced 'The Swinge'. I was hoping to make a trip in 2009 but the weather forecasts never gave me a big enough window to make the trip. I hope we get a good settled Summer this year. I did buy a very useful DVD about the approaches to Aldernay, The Race and The Swinge, it seems very useful. My wife moans because I have watched it so many times and pretty much know the narration off by heart! Well I am glad to hear that you guys make the trip across and hopefully don't have too many bad tales to tell!

Thanks to everyone for welcoming me! and for the comments about the boat. I have owned her now for 2 years and am very pleased with the sea keeping and build quality. I have the Honda 225hp fitted, which is great, but I wish I had gone for the 2 x 90hp option. As for the fishing...well I have to say I enjoy fishing for all species. I have made a few longer trips out to the Pinnacle and beyond and have caught some nice Tope out there. I have also had a couple of Cod this year uptiding. Generally I prefer to fish with lighter tackle wherever possible. Peteg, I don't think we met up in 2009, I hope you are well and to see you soon. Conger King (Tony), 'what the boat is really used for'.......! Well everyone, I run a fireworks business and the boat is officially a safety boat for when we are firing shows on or near water. The boat is fully coded CAT3 (20 miles C.O.P) because it is a safety boat, that's why there are quite few bits and bobs on her. If it works, I have attached a jpeg of my mate Richard who caught a decent Cod 3 mikles off Handfast Point the other week. He would like to join the club as well. All the best Steve

I have just joined the club and am looking forward to joining in or helping wherever possible. I keep my boat at Cobbs Quay and have been a keen fisherman for quite a few years. I am 51 and an electronics engineer by trade. My boat is a Pirate 21 called Euphoria.

Member Removed replied to Member Removed's topic in Boat Buddies
Yes, sorry guys, i should have updated the topic. Nige has very kindly offered to take me out as crew tomorrow. I have to say i was not very optimistic when i put the request on and I am sure we'll have a laugh whatever happens.... Thanks again everyone. Pete -

I have just become a fully paid up member of the club I have been a non paid member for most of the year and have been out alot with my mate Alfie on Sea Dream. I was due to go out with him on Sunday for a bash at some cod and whiting, but he is crewing for someone now on the Cod comp., I really would love to get out for the comp, so if anyone has a spare few square feet on the deck for me then i will happily crew for you. I know its a bit late in the day to ask if anyone needs crew, but if you don't ask........... If I don't get out then i am sure I will meet you all at some point and look forward to it. Its good to be part of the club for real now. Have a good one. Pete

Hi All, my name is Reeco and I`m the Development Co-ordinator for SWKA ( South Wales Kayak Anglers ) http://www.swka.org.uk As a group of Kayak Anglers since May 07, we formalized in September 09 to become the 1st Official Kayak Angling Club of its kind. We are a friendly bunch and actively look to improve our sport and develop a network of Kayak Anglers across South Wales. Kayak Fishing is getting very popular and has been recognised that the Kayaking element places this sport in the extreme bracket, especially when touring open sea. Safety is of vital importance to every member of the club and we actively encourage people to go out in groups rather than alone. Our club is not an instructional club, we have no formally trained coaches and we urge all persons seeking paddling guidance to contact their local Paddle Club, which can be found in our Web Safety Section. If you are interested in Kayak Fishing and wish to join us on any of our fishing sessions throughout South Wales then please get in touch. ATB. Reeco

Thanks for te warm welcome Brian... I'm hoping it's going to warm up a tad by February.. here's to hope! I live in Milton Keynes so trailer the boat everywhere.. crazy place to live and own a boat but as the intro suggests, I guess it's in the blood so where there's a will there's a way and all that malarky... I've invaraibly launched from Lymington public slip and berthed in Berthon but will launch pretty much anywhere if it makes sense and it's practical to do so. cheers

Hi Guys, just joined after being converted(ish) to the dark side from coarse fishing hanging up my carp rods and getting back to my roots, sea fishing... well, if I'm honest, I'll still coarse fish occasionally but very much want to get back in to sea fishing. As a lad, I lived on the Lincolnshire coast digging for lugs, trawling the breakers for shrimp, braving the groynes for peelers and losing many a welly in the mud flats.. all in the name of putting some fish on the table... even had a stab at codlining for a few years before near shore trawling desimated the practice ... desperately cold times and I look back wondering why I'd get up at 3am to unhook a few fish at low tide... I guess it's in the blood? Anyways, another confession is that the immediate purpose of joining this forum, is a fella on another forum (YBW) has recommended your forum as a great source of info and as I'm about to venture out in my newly acquired Fletcher 19 GTSC for the weekend of the 5th Feb with a few mates, I'm looking for a buddy boat or three to join up with to show me the ropes, fishing in and around the needles. weather permitting of course. Probably best to leave it at that for now until I get to contribute to the forum and post a few threads asking for advice. I'll do a bit of reading in the meantime. cheers Gary

Many thanks to all for the help so far. I did own a small 14ft boat last year, but had to sell due to other commitments, all said it was good to get to grips with and learn a few basic tips, all in all i was so nervous to start with, dont think it helped when the outboard cut out and the current started to carry me very fast in christchurch harbour, but like they say 'you have to make mistakes to learn by them' At least i did bother to get a free boat check and advice from the local RNLI (very helpful people) all said tho, i will be joining very soon, and would appricate if i could go on a few trips with local people, dont worry im more than happy to chip in on fuel and supplys. just very keen and willin to learn new skills as im a total newcomer.

many thanks brian, i will be doing very soon. just in the prosess of booking a day trip through a work mate, truebluefishing boat goes out of poole. they seem a good bunch and willing to help out the starters.
