  1. can anyone explain what is the difference between ribs & stringers? The bits that are rotten in mine are ribs ....... I think This picture is a "BEFORE" ... the big boxes are covering inspection/storage holes into the hull. Once I removed them and their supports I noticed the floor was spongy so i started prodding with a screwdriver and ended up with this so far Im going to remove the whole floor and replace all of those ribs/stringers ..... I'm just hoping the transom is ok coz its gonna have a 115hp Suzuki bolted to it
  2. Thanks mark. I will read it. Ive just found something on the web by "boat building central" that was very interesting. Prevented me making immediate mistakes already
  3. No Dave, I wont be making it sealed. Its cavernous under there and intended on putting floor hatches in so I can store stuff under there like many of the modern boats do. This "foam" stringers ... whats this then? what is this foam and where do I get it?
  4. Think its Poole Sea Angling comp on 30th.
  5. well .... my idea of cutting some hatches into the floor of my project has uncovered some pretty grotty stringers. So the floor is coming up and 2 new stringers are to be fitted. Now i'm no chippy so i am thinking of making a template out of hardboard (or cardboard) first then cutting round the template onto some nice marine ply and fibreglassing them into place. 2 questions spring to mind .... 1: can I put these stringers close to the original ones, thereby I dont need to cut all the fibreglass around the old ones (or do they have to go exactly where they are for structural calculations etc). 2: Do i make a small hole in the bottom of each one so any water ingress into one can travel through to the stern so one bilge pump will suffice (the obvious problem here would be if a hole occured in one "chamber" the water would fill the boat up through those same holes) or do I put a bilge pump in each, thus making each chamber completely seperate from each other? I'm basically starting from scratch here so any modifications will be easier done now rather than later.
  6. Oh dear
  7. just in case you change your mind eh?
  8. my kind of bloke :-)
  9. It was 99p Dave ... you don't need your wallet, just the change from your next pint :-)
  10. Thanks Nigel. I will take my time (while I have the Raider) and look at other boats of similar design to get ideas. If the Raider sells than I will have to do the basics so I can get back on the water as soon as possible. I pick up a Suzuki DF115 tomorrow .
  11. 200 odd pages I'll look this evening but it's definitely not the same shaped hull.
  12. looks like you could be right Andy http://www.yellowfinmarine.co.uk/boats_for..._id=YELL%201157 exactly the same as mine but longer.
  13. Rob, the bilges can be seen through the hatches, there is no foam. As for the name we were thinking "Fishin impossible" or "Reel Deal"
  14. Good Idea Charlie Its 20ft long. the floor has lots of raised hatches (which I intend on removing and fitting flush hatches). It has lots of other built in storage as well, so the deck should stay clear. Looking on the register of fishing boats from 2003 it would seem she was called "Mistress" and was registered as being 5.9 met 1.5 tons and having a 100hp engine. The seller tells me it was built by a commercial boat builder in Emsworth in the late 90's but I cant find anything on Google about any boat builders in Emsworth that may have built it. Unless you lot know different
  15. Thanks Mike .... I've not even seen this project in the water so I'm hoping it is as good a platform as Little Sal has been.
  16. Martin saw it being dragged to my place on Sunday but hopefully it will be out on the water in time for the Bream ... I didnt get the diesel Raider nor the one I agreed terms on (as the bloke selling it was a ...... well you know). The one I got has been sat on some guys drive in Hamworthy for the best part of 3 years. Dunno what it is but it was a commercial boat registered in Portland up till 2004 it's got masses of deck space and it weighs a ton & a half dry! I've got a Suzuki DF115 going on it so hopefully it will push it along nicely.
  17. NOW SOLD I've just bought a project and will be looking to move my Raider on. I know I will regret selling the Raider but if this new one is not as good then I can always flog it again and get another Raider. Anyway, its a 2006 Raider 18 wheelhouse with Evinrude etech 90. Engine was serviced early 2011 and it had about 50 odd hours on it. (I have computer print out available). I have possibly added another 100 hours to it this year?? So another 200 hours (or 2 years till next service is due). Top speed of about 30knotts and cruises easily at 20-24. I've used it for trips up to 30 miles out and it never misses a beat. Fishes 3 reasonably comfortably. The Electronics will be coming off (to be fitted to the new one) so its just the boat with nav lights, one fuel tank (around 35 litres I think), two battery setup, engine with guages etc, boarding ladder, aux bracket, twin wheel trailer (brakes have been removed as its only used in boat yard), new cover and a few rod holders. Possibly leave the radar arch on if the price is right. I paid 13500 for it a year and a half ago so make me a sensible offer and we may have a deal. Graham.
  18. So who decides what emergency they attend then Dave?? It could be said that anyone stupid enough to be out there in poor conditions, or in a poorly equiped vessel deserves anything they get ... fortunately thats not the mentality of the RNLI. And I certainly dont go out there "prepared to DIE", I go out there to enjoy a hobby happy with the knowledge that if the worst should happen there is someone out there who will be willing to help (so long as they know of my plight). Graham.
  19. I cannot even imagine 60ft seas!
