  1. whatever happens i WILL NOT be fishing in Poole Bay!!
  2. Mike, the main reason we stayed this end was because the forecast had said it would blow up mid dayish and i HAD to be back by 4.30 at the latest so I didn't think it would be sensible going to the Island and have to take it easy just in case it made me late. The extra fuel was a slight concern too. I WONT be fishing Poole on Sunday tho', thats for sure.
  3. well done Nigel, thats a long hard couple of days but i'm sure your last weeks catches kept a smile on your face :-)
  4. Well, after all the recent reports of monster fish being caught it was my intention to see if I could become a statistic, but alas the forecast was somewhat lumpier than we had hoped (and we were running a little late) so we stayed over towards what I believe to be the 50/50's. What a waste of a day off!! I was so excited when we arived at our spot that I threw one mackerel bait in on one of my light weight traces from Poole Harbour last sunday while I set up my main rod. Once my main rod was in the water complete with pennel rig and squid bait i noticed my first rod was nodding ..... I left it a few seconds then lifted into something heavy for a couple of seconds ..... then gone . I left it out for a few more minutes before reeling it in to check my bait, but not only had the bait gone but the hook too!! That was as exciting as it got for me today, my mate had 3 doggies and i had absolutely naffink!! Oh well, hopefully I'm saving my luck for Sunday

  7. I would like to bump this thread as with the favourable forecast for the latter part of the week and the weekend I can see there are likely to be a few boats out there. Graham.

    birthday

    Happy Birthday Terry.
  11. I have recently had my dog tested for allergies (as she was scratching so much that she actually scratched her nipples off!!) Anyway the outcome is that as well as allergies to just about every type of pollen, the only meat she can eat is white fish and raw egg. So my request is that anyone very local to Poole who catches one of the deep water species that is unable to be returned due to deep hooking or blown swim bladder give me a call before returning their catch for the seagulls. I stress I dont want you to kill an otherwise healthy fish, just the ones that won't survive anyway. Pout, Pollock and Cod are the obvious ones but maybe there are others?? I say very local to Poole because I live and work in Poole so would be able to collect very quickly in most cases. Many thanks. Graham 07710 911921
  12. Another beauty. Well done you lot for having jobs that enables you to go fishing when the rest of us are working I have yet to find the car park myself Lofty but I believe its a few miles the other side of The Needles.
  13. You look knackered Nigel!! Best get back to work for a rest!
  14. Fantastic Nigel ..... beats work eh?
  15. My crew today was much too late for us to sign in for the comp but we did get out and hid round in Swanage for a few hours. Plenty of wrasse up to a couple of pounds and a few doggies. Headed to Poole patch for the last hour or so (to use up the last of our bait) and had more of the same but with the added bonus of a small conger too. No cod, nothing decent but was great to be out again at last.
  16. my sentiments exactly Nigel ....
  17. every now and then Martin gets a quantity given to him. Last time it was 10mm and there were 2 HUGE reels of it. I dont think there is any guarantees as to when it might show up but if you can it is worth waiting for as its good stuff.
  18. I think we NEED a break in this weather
  19. I intend on being there too Tony ..... woo hooo, lets do it
  20. Im not even gonna mention Windguru!

    Frozen crabs

there would have been two of us taking the credit then Dave
  22. and I'm off to fish .... and put back all of my catch (if there is any).
  23. Bob, most of us here just wanna fish. Politics is for the politicians and millitants.
  24. I still say fair play to you for being willing to put yourself forward Bob, and I admire your passion and demeanor with your replies .... but ..... I personally feel sick when I see photos of charter boats with the deck covered in dead fish. As much as I did when I saw the recent TV program about discards. Nothing fuels the ANTI fishing brigades fire more than photos of dead fish. My feelings are that there SHOULD be a limit, although I have absolutely no idea how that could/should be set or policed. So I think we are on opposite tables straight away. My feelings on the whole commercial/recreational fisherman is a fairly simplistic (nieve) one; Commercial fishermen take fish from the sea for a living, they have invested millions on their trade and pay a heavy price when they get it wrong (sometimes they pay the ultimate price with their lives). We the public demand fish for our tables and we demand it at a cheap price, which means they have to catch more and more and they have to do it as economically as possible. If there was no market then they wouldn't do it. Recreational Sea Anglers on the other hand do it as a pass time/sport, mainly so we can get a "buzz" by out-witting a fish and we have even started using lighter gear so that the competition is closer and the "buzz" is heightened. How can we complain at being limited just because the commercial guys take what market forces have dictated that they take? or because we only get out once a month/year or whatever. I personally think that we should limit our bag to personal use, we shouldn't be supplying the neighbourhood or work mates with fish. But if that is what you (or anyone else does) then that is your choice. I won't keep fish just because others do (as was said on another thread recently). Incidentally; I dont put my fish back because I have to, I put them back because I want to. I had a big smile on my face as I saw a 10LB Bass swim away after release, but thats not to say that everyone feels the same.
